Celtic Boys Club manager 'stuffed banknotes in boy's mouth'
Bill replied to ian1964's topic in General Football Chat
The poison permeates everything in this shithole of a country. -
To be fair, the middle of a global pandemic and economic collapse is hardly the best time to launch a share issue.
-
1. That seems clear but didn't require him to step down as chairman - that role is the gift of the shareholders. 2. Agreed. 3. It might have been a rhetorical question ?
-
It's not up to the board to make the offer, merely to decide whether or not to accept it and any refusal would likely not go down too well. In any case, you're right, Club1872 seems so far from achieving this sort of money that you begin to wonder exactly why Dave King is going down this road.
-
Classy
-
There are three huge mysteries in all of this. 1. Why did King step down as chairman when he did, with what seemed like undue haste and without a ready successor in the wings? 2. Why is Dave King only willing to sell to Club1872 in what looks like an attempt to deny those shares to other current shareholders and what does that say about the crucial matter of board cohesion? 3. Why is Club1872 such an opaque organisation and why does it have so little to say about how it will use a controlling shareholding?

It's not my show. If you don't know why you're going to talk to him there's little point asking other people.

Shifting the focus. I just hope this is ignored rather than drawn attention to. -
Hmmmm

Why doesn't Club1872 offer it's £millions to Rangers as a soft loan, redeemable in shares on agreeable terms? They could even restrict what the money could be used for. Money goes to the club, in time shares go to Club1872, what's the problem for anyone other than Dave King?
-
If I'm honest, not a lot. Why do you think he's agreed to an interview?
-
You seem like a man on a mission today ?
-
The thing about control is that the outcome of it depends heavily on who has it and what they do with it. Unless you're as sure as you can be about those things then control should e the last thing you hand over unquestioningly.
-
Worryingly, I think you're absolutely right.
-
Surely the primary aim of Club1872 shouldn't be to own shares, although that looks increasingly the case, but to assure the long term security of Rangers. It seems many presume these two aspirations to be essential the same thing. To anyone willing to stop and think, that's not necessarily the case. At the moment, as far as I can see, little more than blind acceptance connects one to the other and too many well-meaning fans seem to be fuelled only by faith and hope, while their charity is being hijacked and offered in entirely the wrong direction. Far from having gone away, I have a growing suspicion that some of our old problems have only been hiding in the shadows and may be about to bite us on the arse yet again. The smell of self-interest once again hangs in the air. Gaining control should never have been the priority for Club1872. It should always have been about assuring the best interests of Rangers. It's easy to appear benign and competent when you have people like Whyte, Green, etc running the club but where's the evidence Club1872 offers anything we need today. Where is there the slightest sign that Club1872 possesses any of the qualities or resources needed to play such an important role in the future of the club? I can however see lot's of reasons why Club1872 should never be in a position to obstruct good governance, which is where it will be if this nonsense comes to pass.
-
It has never made sense. A piece of the jigsaw is definitely missing
-
When fans are prepared to part with their money without what I would consider even a skeleton outline of a plan, is it any wonder Club1872 continues to conduct itself like this. It seems nothing ever changes and no one ever learns.
-
Dave King's decision doesn't reflect well on his faith in the other shareholders to act in Rangers' interests ..... or their ability or willingness to fund the acquisition of his shareholding. Is he foreshadowing little problems brewing in the boardroom. Because, the more I think about it, the less sense it makes for the fans to be financing King's sharesale instead of investing in the club.
-
There is an element of one-dimensional and quite wishful thinking about this. At the root of Club1872's philosophy seems to be a wish to impose itself between Rangers and any controlling shareholding that might want to do harm to the club, which is all very laudable. However, as always in these things, there is another side to the coin. With sufficient shareholding, Club1872 could also obstruct actions which are in the best interests of the club but might have certain implications that Club1872 don't agree with. That which has the ability to safeguard also has the means to do harm. Not that I'm suggesting for one minute that Club1872 currently has anything but the best of intentions but that on its own is seldom enough in real life. Decisions can be taken for all sorts of well-intentioned reasons, not all of which will turn out to be as wise as first thought. Underpinning everything I hear about Club1872 is the incontestable presumption that it knows best and, by inference, always will. Who runs Club1872? Who will run Club1872 in the future, say, 20 years from now? What does 25+% Club1872 shareholding do to our ability to attract new outside investment? Or attract new experience and skill on to the board? Any significant investor would want to know the pedigree of the senior shareholders and certainly of anyone who can stop special resolutions. I totally get the hypothetical notion of benign oversight. What I see no evidence of are any safeguards that Club1872 will always act with good judgement and will never be influenced by the sort of madcap characters who infested RST in the past.
-
Indeed. I've struggled to make sense out of the Club1872 strategy. They seem to be sort of sure where they want to end up but none of what they do seems to take them there.
-
It's impossible not to agree with this but I suppose the money for these shares has already gone to the club and it's only voting rights that are being traded. If you want voting rights then it comes at a price. My own view is that Club1872 would be better buying new shares with the fans' money and leaving Dave King to find another buyer for his offload. £13m (if that's what it is) should never be used to bail out a fellow shareholder, even if it is Dave King. You have to question who exactly is the beneficiary in this deal but it's certainly not Rangers. That's the risk every shareholder bears. It's just part of the game and Club1872 shouldn't be any different.

A legacy membership costing what exactly? I can see this turning into something other than "fan ownership.

Out of the Europa League Out of the League Cup Out of control Out of time Who am I?
-
The real problem isn't Celtic but the SPFL who clearly served the interests of one club against the wishes of another.
