  1. The Chairman Souness idea is just daft. Not because he's past it or because he's not a Rangers man ... but because he's not an experienced board chairman. Nor is there any sense in this idea that the chairman needs to have financial pull. He doesn't. That's a mentality that became entrenched under the Murray dictatorship when one man ran the club and personally took all major decisions. That's not the role of a chairman in any normal corporate structure. In many cases the chairman doesn't even have any executive role in the company. His role as chairman is to ensure the board fulfils its legal, fiscal and corporate obligations and to ensure board meetings are conducted Ian effective manner. There's no benefit as I see it for the chairman to have Rangers connections. Good if he does but someone who has experience running successful companies or financial institutions would be acceptable. The person who needs to have financial pull is usually the finance director but it can be anyone on the board and is often a non-executive director appointed by the board for that specific reason. That's not to say there isn't a place for Graeme Souness on the Rangers board. In my mind he would make a good appointment as a non exec director, not because he used to be our manager but because of his media and international football connections. All of the above depends of course on Rangers having adopted a normalised form of governance and has ditched any residual structures from the Murray years.
  2. Good shout Compo. makes a lot of sense
  3. Not a chance. Nuno Capucho reigns supreme
  4. Wouldn't that be youngism? Or whippersnappery or similar? As for hate crimes, old blokes generally see that as a badge of honour ?
  5. Cant believe Scott slipped my mind. I keep doing that, I'd need a complete list to work from. It's been a real memory jogger just trying to construct a team out of all the old names. Unlike the wet-behind-the-ears mob, we have a few more to consider ?
  6. Davie Wilson, Willie Johnston, Tommy McLean, Davie Cooper, Brian Laudrup, Andrei Kanchelskis ... stiff competition but I still think Willie Henderson in his pomp was definitely the best winger I've seen, often unplayable. Only Laudrup might challenge him from the years I've seen.
  7. I've been trying for an hour. Unfortunately it seems so have several million other people. "Please try later"
  8. It shows the benefit of age when you see the likes of Craig Moore, Ian Ferguson, Barry Ferguson, Craig Moore, Mark Hately, Michael Mols, Arthur Numan, etc occupying places in the All Time Rangers Team. All good players certainly, all made big contributions in successful sides but mostly not up to the calibre of some of their predecessors. Players I'd like to have picked but ran out of places for include Tommy McLean, the best crosser of a ball I ever saw. Derek Johnstone, a magnificent header of the ball Alex McDonald, classic box to box midfield dynamo Dave Smith, perhaps the most cultured left foot of his generation Willie Johnston, direct and committed winger Davie Cooper, it's all been said before Jorg Albertz, Mr Freekicks
  9. The role of a chairman is to guide the board, not run the club.
  10. Old enough to have seen some of the best players ever to wear a Rangers shirt. Unbelievably, Rangers were around before Graeme Souness. ?
  11. Kevin who? Just joking ?
  12. Agreed. We've had so many great players .... but it's probably safe to say a few were world class. Henderson, Baxter, Gascoigne come to mind. So, finally, correcting my earlier mistake....... Andy Goram Sandy Jardine Richard Gough Carlos Cuellar Eric Caldow John Greig Paul Gascoigne Jim Baxter Willie Henderson Ally McCoist Brian Laudrup
  13. Oh f*ck, Carlos Cuellar - how could I forget the guy who almost single handedly took us to a UEFA final.
  14. He was also the best left back I ever saw. There may have been better before him but no one in the Wallace, Souness, Advocaat or Smith years came close.
  15. Hey in this company I'm mere youngster
  16. I'll have a go at the impossible task ......... Andy Goram Sandy Jardine Richard Gough Derek Johnstone Eric Caldow John Greig Paul Gascoigne Jim Baxter Willie Henderson Ally McCoist Brian Laudrup
  17. It always amazes me in these topics about best Rangers teams that there's never room for a man who was club captain for 12 years, made 755 competitive appearances for the club, scored 120 goals, captained his country and was one of the best players I ever saw.
  18. Love the Rangers streams on the site today. I'd quite forgotten about that amazing goal by Sone Aluko.
  19. Hopefully he'll soon be one of the lucky ones walking around with immunity.
  20. The SPFL won't make a decision until they see what happens over the order.
  21. Half and half scarves - could there be a more ingratiatingly smarmy symbol of football's re-invention?
  22. Single source Kenyan black please.... and leave the pot on the table
  23. And best of all, no standing around for three minutes while bloody VAR reaches the wrong decision.
  24. I thought it was brilliant seeing all those old games and the great players. No electronic advertising around the pitched promoting Vietnamese dogfood or Arabian airlines. And pitches like ploughed fields. ? I hope we're going to get more of these games.
