I don't mind bring in an experienced player but I think Beattie is extremely risky - no matter his age.

It's only 18 months ago he was being credited as the man who single handedly kept Stoke up. Also, a lot of people forget that he had 18 months at Sheffield United in the Championship where he scored for fun. Stoke play a very ugly brand of football and their top scorer last season only scored something like 5 goals. Beattie would still score a hatful at SPL level

Last year there were calls to get him back in the England set up , as long as he is in addition and not to replace anyone

Sorry guys - just don't fancy him. Hope I'm proved wrong though... :)

Smith has never been very good with strikers Frankie ,however he has been very good at getting the best out of transfer's you thought would never work ,hopefully this is the same , well let's face it , it will need to be

Would it help if he went back to his 2004 look of rat tails and peroxide hair? ;)

I've said it before, but as far as the SPL goes, I think any half decent striker can score a lot of goals for us. However, that's more dependent on the number and quality of chances being created for him and that's where I think we've struggled a bit in recent years.

Beattie would help in both aspects as he is great at holding the ball up, something we haven't had since Darcheville and Cousin left

I think Beattie should have enough experience and guile to make an impression on the SPL. Whilst not exactly a marquee signing, it reflects our status in the game that we are competing for EPL/Championship cast-offs. I just hope Bain has enough savvy to get him on a modest basic salary, but with good add-ons for appearances and goals.

Also, the thing with someone like Beattie is that he should be sufficiently motivated now that he is moving into the final contract or two as a professional player. He can't have that many medals in the locker, so coming to Ibrox and competing for the SPL and taking part in the CL should mean that he has something to show for himself when talking to the grandweans.
