Whittaker signs new 5 year deal - Official

Recommended Posts

No, Steven Whittaker absolutely is NOT worth paying 20k a week for - how much is the offer for BTW ?

We could definitely get better than him for that kind of weekly wage.

Crazy stuff.

Considering they pay higher wages in the championship , where exactly will we get better players on less money , unless you want a stream of constant changes every season .

Whittaker is a potential match winner and can occasionally do things unusually well. His agent is paid to talk up his wages. It would be much better if this didn't play out in public but it's all part of the strategy. We should probably hold in the anger or sympathy until we know any of the actual details or the thing is concluded.

Perhaps we should be nurturing the anger about the greed in football. To be honest, I can't believe how acceptable it has become. All Whittaker is doing is insulting Rangers fans by telling them that the huge amounts they are prepared to pay out their pocket for him to live a very easy life as a millionaire, in return for playing the game he loves (and not even consistently well at that), is just not good enough for him. He deserves no sympathy whatsoever.

All he's going to do is fleece some other fans somewhere else, who can't really afford it, and the cycle of greed and the debt to pay for it continues.

We need to stop this culture of condoning that kind of behaviour - it's killing our club and killing the beautiful game.

When you think of the supposed targets we had not that long ago, heres's an update:

Lost out on Vaughan

Lost out on Conway

Lost out on Goodwillie (cause we wouldn't pay what he's worth)

Maybe lose out on Danns (to the dark side FFS)

Probably lose out on Cuellar;

Probably lose out on Wilson on loan

now add to that:

Bougherra - off

Whitty - probably off

Please, someone, take McGregor and make my misery complete.

Which is exactly the quandary we find ourselves in.

Or are you advocating paying 20k a week to a player like Whittaker ? Because if you are then we will very rapidly be on the slippery road to oblivion again - if Whittaker gets 20k a week then how long will it be before Davis, Jelavic, Naismith etc etc (the players who were undoubtedly BETTER than Whittaker last season) ask for parity ?

Also, are you suggesting that the Championship is the only place we should be looking for players ? Our scouts should be scouring the WORLD for good players who would play for us for a reasonable wage.... or are we going to just admit right now that Celtic do a better job at this than us. You can guarantee that Izaguirre isnt on 20k a week - and he is as good as Whittaker, probably better.

There ARE players out there who would play for us for far less than 20k a week and they dont need to be playing in the UK, where wages are very inflated.

Whilst this is true he is also, defensively, a nightmare. His defensive positional sense is often horrible. Is a potential match winner, who also is very prone to defensive mistakes, worth 20k a week ?

I have no anger or sympathy towards any of our players - their careers are short and often will chase the highest money, that is just how the industry works. But still we all are, obviously, entitled to our opinion on the merits and demerits of our players.
