stole this from ff. re dortmund. (a great example to us)

I think everyone will agree that Dortmund are where they are due to their management team.

And their scouting system too. Ours simply won't do & hasn't been good enough for some time now.

We need to copy clubs who buy low & sell high but to do that you need a top notch global scouting system.

I thought this thread was about using a recent success story as a possible inspiration for us (as we attempt to get back to our feet) as opposed to a direct comparision with a team like Dortmund? Dortmund fell below the standards they set for a decade or so and found themselves in major financial trouble due to terrible off field management. They regrouped, restructed and put in place a program that has reaped great rewards over the last 2/3 years. Whether they have continually succeeded in Europe over the last few years is by the by IMO. They have won 2 Bundesliga titles during a strong period for rivals Bayern and this season managed to make an impact in the CL but ultimately they have laid the foundations that will put them in good stead for the next few years. Whether you play in the Beazer Homes League, the Championship or the Scottish Football league, surely adopting a on/off field structure that has long term vision and financial prudence is attractive to anyone looking for success?

Again Dortmund and QOTS are terrible arguments. It's completely random. You didn't know they were going to be good at the start of the season so where is the determinism? Both teams were relatively crap the season before, so where is the provenance and sustainability?

This is about as clever as telling someone on Deal or No Deal - at the end of the program, they should have chosen to keep box 12 as it had the largest amount of money. Or telling the next contestant to pick box 12 as it was the best last time.

You're saying we have to copy the best team (compared to resources) of the season, every season, without knowing who the best will be? Even if we could predict it we'd be changing direction as often as a pin ball.

If we're gong to copy anyone it should be a club that produces consistently very good results over a long period of time, constrained by a low budget.

Both Dortmund and QOTS are not that club and you'll probably be picking different clubs next year, the same as you would have someone else last year.

Dortmund won the Bundusliga last season so I don't think anyone would have thought they were going to be rubbish.

Dortmund won the league twice before Bayern got it back. Dortmund have one foot into the CL final and have won it before.

Rangers had massive history before them so nothing wrong with gs comparing us with them is there?

The apathy today despairs me, maybe we are shite and we can continue to be shite as long as we can't use Dortmund as an example.

One of their coaches was on talksport today , an English guy can't remember his name Gary something ( strange name lol ) , anyway he has been there 20 years coaching their kids from 7 up to 12 . What was surprising is that they don't take kids from anywhere but the local area right up to under 14 as they believe they are too young to be away from home .

Also they coach the kids depending on how the manager wants the first team to play and they also scout them the same was ie if the coach wants strong athletic types that's who they go for , which surprised me considering the age he was talking about
