Sky Sports understands that former Stoke City striker Mamady Sidibe is training with Scottish League One side Rangers.

The 33-year old is available on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at the Britannia Stadium earlier this summer.

Sidibe's final years as a Stoke player were plagued by injury, although he spent the majority of last season out on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Tranmere Rovers.

The Mali international, who joined from Gillingham in 2005, spent eight years as a Stoke player, scoring 26 goals in the process.

Rangers have had a number of players on trial already this summer, notably former Sheffield United and Motherwell midfielder Nicky Law, as manager Ally McCoist prepares for the forthcoming season following his side's promotion from the Third Division.

doesn't sound like the best of options to me....even Kenny Miller scored more than that!!!

Actually, after Ally declaring his interest in another striker, I thought the appearance of Nacho Novo at Livingston was to be followed by us signing him up.

Can't say I have heard much about Sidibe and if you look for his goals, they are back from 2008 or the like. Alas, he looks a strong, 6ft 4 fellow indeed.

He's been in Britain since 2001 and those African players are usually quite fit. What his goal tally does not say is the amount of assists et al he had. He looks to me like another target man, someone Clark, Templeton and Little can feed of. Whether he'd links up well with Daly is another matter, but them two and Mohsni would give any SPFL 3 defence plenty to think about at set pieces.

If we are looking for another striker, I would want one that can score goals.....26 goals in 8 years is a terrible ratio for a player who's primary function is to score. Jig, who isn't normally a striker scored more in one season than this guy has in 8. If McCoist is looking for an experienced striker, who knows where the net is....there was one in the stand yesterday - Wee Nacho. Similar age to this guy, but has a proven track record of being a right pain in Scottish defensive ar*es, and knows where the goal is!!!

No problem here. I'm not promoting this chap, just try to figure out what Allym ay see in him. As it turns out, his agent has suggested him and Bouazza (a winger!) to us and we look at both. The latter is a left winger, who can also play on the right.

Since you point out McCulloch ... his goal-bonanza came last season in the fourth tier of the game. Before that, he was not exactly prolific either, even though obvioulsy hardly used as a striker. Just saying. It could well be that Sidibe is more a provider than scorer, something Miller was too, before he found his scoring touch after Boyd left.

So far I do not get excited about these people. If we get positive reports like we had from no-name Mohsni, things may change. We have to wait and see who McCoist has on his own wish-list too.

RANGERS have taken two former Premiership players on trial as Ally McCoist continues looking for potential additions to his squad.

Mamady Sidibe and Hameur Bouazza joined the Light Blues squad for training this morning at Murray Park after arriving in Glasgow last night.

Both players are represented by Gregory Dakad, the same agent who looks after new Gers defender Bilel Mohsni.

Mali international forward Sidibe left Stoke City last season after eight seasons with the Potters, during which time he was also on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Tranmere.

The 33-year-old had previously played in the English lower leagues with Swansea City and Gillingham.

Bouazza, meanwhile, is available as a free agent having most recently played in Spain with Racing Santander, where he was a team-mate of Carlos Bocanegra’s last season.

The Algerian winger, 28, also has extensive English experience having represented seven clubs there including Fulham, Charlton, Watford and Blackpool.

The Algerian winger, 28, also has extensive English experience having represented seven clubs there including Fulham, Charlton, Watford and Blackpool.

No talks have taken place as yet and McCoist is simply keen to assess the pair before he considers whether to take things any further.

He said: â??The boys are two players who Gregory looks after and theyâ??ll be well known to people who know their English and European football.

â??Theyâ??ve just come in to have a look at our place and also for us to have a wee look at them. This is their first day as they came into the city last night.

â??They trained this morning and they were absolutely fine. Theyâ??re obviously not up to the same levels of fitness as our lads are but thatâ??s totally understandable.

â??They havenâ??t done any pre-season training yet and thereâ??s no pressure on anybody. Weâ??ll make them feel very welcome and weâ??ll see what happens.

â??It would be crazy of us not to take the option to bring other people in and have a look at them after the success weâ??ve had with Bilelâ??s trial. Both players have good pedigree.â?

Despite not training training this summer and having an obvious lack of fitness as a consequence, McCoist could be tempted to field the two new trialists this midweek.

Rangers will travel to Dundee on Wednesday night for a friendly at Dens Park and the manager refused to rule out involving them.

He added: â??Iâ??ve not even thought about that yet and Iâ??ve not asked either of them if they want to play. Thatâ??s maybe something weâ??ll look at in the next 24 hours.â?
