No doubt we could do with Miller. Been there, done it, wore the t-shit and slayed the tims. Clark is not upto it yet, Daly needs help and Little will never be good enough. Shiels has no future here and is not a striker, McKay is on loan and is no longer a striker, he plays on the wings, Tempelton another who may have no future here and is not a striker either. Of all those you mention none of them will contribute anything like what Boyd and Miller did for us.

Miller, Boyd and Daly would be excellent choices as we go up the next two levels, 3 older heads complimented by a couple of younger hungry to learn kids. We are going to need men to wrestle that title from Celtic in 18 months time, not kids.

I also disagree both have had their day, Boyd especially has unfinished business. I do agree however about young fresh talent, long term, but don't feel what we currently have is good enough. I want to see a couple from the Under 20's given a chance.

The bit in bold's the key - What they DID for us....

Miller was a rather average striker until his last 1/2 season with us when he was banging in the goals - then left to get more money!!!

If we want them @ the club, get them coaching the young strikers rather than playing.

as for Temps, McKay & Shiels....I never said they were strikers. I said they could play in a more attacking role.

As for Nicky Clark....13 league appearances, 8 goals - not a bad start.

Daly....21 appearances, 18 goals - Can't fault that.

Clark will score goals, I have no doubt of that. Given the right formation, Temps, McKay & Shiels will also score. We don't need Miller or Boyd.

As for needing men, not kids to compete with Ceptic - by the time we are in the same league, the youngsters that we are playing just now will have a good number of 1st team appearances under their belt - possibly in the region of 100+ each. They will have been battered black & blue in the lower leagues & won't be afraid of a physical game, and will hopefully have developed into the type of players required.

We have to move away from the constant buying policies of the past. Over the past 2 seasons, we have had to rely on these youngsters and for the most part, they have not let anyone down. How are players supposed to develop when they can't get 1st team experience.

We don't need to bring in strikers who are approaching the end of their top level careers.

I agree in principle but disagree on somethings too.

Ddi you see him being questioned about it in the studio before the game the other day? He seemed pretty keen.

I read about that interview on SS and before he says its something they have talked about then its got some truth to it.

He looked like he lost 2 yards of pace last few Scotland matches he played, but he did look good against England at Wembley. That sort of form for 12 months would be ideal to get us back to the top flight. But Id rather spend (if there is money) money more wisely for long term. Unless Ally is thinking just getting back to the top flight is ok then we have a settling in period of 1-2 season. But the thought of finishing behind any of the other 11 SPL clubs at the moment it depressing. Im realistic to know we wont over take Celtic on our first season back but imagine finishing below the likes of Dundee Utd and Aberdeen! At least in 2006 when we finished 3rd Hearts were a decent team and at one point looked like they could win the league.

THE Bhoys are ready to push the boat out for the Scotland international and Record Sport understands contact has already been made between the clubs.

CELTIC are lining up an ambitious bid to snatch Steven Fletcher from Sunderland in this month’s transfer window.

Record Sport understands contact has been made between the clubs and that a fee of around £6million will be enough to persuade the Premiership strugglers to part with the Scotland striker, who has not been a regular starter under new boss Gus Poyet.

Fletcher, 26, cost the Black Cats £12m two years ago and is under contract until May 2016 but serious ankle and shoulder injuries troubled him for most of 2013 and it is believed he would relish the chance of a move to Celtic.

Sunderland are prepared to sell him at a knockdown price to the Scottish champions but would be looking for more if a Premier League relegation rival – West Ham are said to be another interested club – made an offer.

Celtic would almost certainly have to smash their wage structure to land the former Hibs, Burnley and Wolves attacker.

Chris Sutton: Signing Fletcher would be a real statement of intent

But the expected sale of Georgios Samaras would free up around £20,000 a week, which would be around half of Fletcher’s wage.

The Hoops could have signed Fletcher for a fraction of today’s cost in 2009 when then boss Gordon Strachan was desperate to snatch him from Hibs in the January transfer window.

They failed to get the deal over the line and went on to lose the title to Rangers.

But, five years later, boss Neil Lennon is determined to have more luck with Fletcher, who is back in the Scotland fold after a self-imposed exile when Craig Levein was boss.

Fletcher, who has 13 caps, is regarded by current Scots coach Strachan as first-pick striker and Lennon has been looking for a top attacker since losing Gary Hooper to Norwich in summer.

The Irishman has identified Fletcher as the man he wants to lead his forward line and serious attempts will now be made to land the player.
