McCulloch with 34 games, 17 goals, and 3 assists. Wallace with 28 games, 3 goals, and 12 assists. Mohsni with 28 games, 10 goals, and 3 assists. Finally, Foster with 23 games, no goals and 3 assists. They might be half a universe away from the qualities of a Gough or Brown, Weir or Stevens, but "worst" is not exactly something that would spring to mind after a season like this - no matter the opposition. Horrific displays against Raith Rovers Albion Rovers and dundee Utd just air brushed as is they didn't happen. No, but you can look at the defences of ManC or ManU, Bayern and Liverpool, even Barca and Real. They all had and have horror-games throughout the campaign, usually costing them games. By only citing those freak games for one or two players, the perspective is actually gone - as much more than defenosve errors cost us those matches. I know who we were up against and we saw what happened the year before, so especially on the basis of that, those four can't be the "worst" we had in recent history - Foster and Mohsni only joined up at the beginning of last season. IMHO some comments show a certain lack of respect untowards those teams and players who all tried to beat us, many of which were or are seasoned players with loads of experience, no matter where they play now and that they have a job like you and me aside from playing football. 0 Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

No matter the opposition? The opposition has to be a factor when analysing our football statistics. Are we to give the same credence to figures against part-timers in Scottish football's basement to those which are recorded against full time players in the top division and against decent level European talent? Frankly, in the grand scheme, and bearing in mind the history of Rangers, everything achieved at this low level should have an asterisk against it to remind future generations that we were competing against a level of opposition so low that we had to look up to see the gutter. Lee McCulloch has been given a new lease of life because we have been up against rotten opposition. If demotion had never happened, he'd have been out of his depth in the top tier. Only that people like to come up with "plummers and postman" stuff and ignore that loads of these people know exactly how to play the game and have done it for years. A professional should be able to beat somesuch hands down, is the usual assumption. Yet, claiming that would simply ignore that each season, for these last 150 years that association football is being played, "pub teams" (as some like to term anything below the top tier) have left their mark in the various cup competitions, and not just in Scotland. We essentially had that for two seasons on the trott and to survive one season unbeaten (with 3 draws in 36 games) is no easy feat. So in a sense, you are correct, the opposition does matter. Only that not so many on here want to look at it from a neutral angle, for it is the pub-team mantra all along. Thing is there are plumbers and postmen playing against us after doing a full days work. On many occasions they have out played us and that simply should not be tolerated. Opposition managers have sussed out our manager and his "style" of play and his inability to change things during a game.
