There should be complaints to the Police over this and they should act on it. If you can be arrested for singing a song then this certainly should fall under some law.

500k take it or leave it would be my final bid

No way. A player we can pre-sign in January for zilch, a Hibs player who's heart won't be in it. Time is over when we paid premium money for players.

Snatched directly from FF ... and not much more needs to be said really ...

Stubbs at Bolton

ALAN Stubbs headed the goal that gave Wanderers their first ever Premier League win – a well-deserved 2-1 victory over the Champions Blackburn Rovers at Burnden Park that had the champagne corks popping in the home dressing room.

But the young Bolton captain wasn’t smiling at the end after being booed by large sections of the home contingent in the crowd of 20,500.

Bitterly disappointed by the reaction of fans who took exception to his public pronouncements that he wanted to leave Wanderers for a “top club”, Stubbs reckoned the criticism was starting to affect his performances and claimed he deserved better after serving the club for eight years.

Yet he didn’t do himself any favours when, after asked in a TV interview after the game if his Bolton days were numbered, he responded with a wry smile: “Watch this space!”.

"I don't mind where I go as long as I go somewhere. No disrespect to Bolton, but I need to move for my England chances. I would not mind coming south if it was Arsenal."

Stubbs at Celtic

Stubbs has gone on record to criticise Celtic for putting such a high price on his head, and has made it clear he felt he had a verbal agreement with the club which would allow him to leave if an English team came in for him.

McCann has based his valuation of Stubbs on the #5.3m Derby received for Christian Dailly. However, the fact that Dailly is a regular Scotland internationalist is used to justify his fee, whereas Stubbs has yet to earn a full England cap.

The centre-back has been a major success at Parkhead since signing in a #3.5 million deal from Bolton in 1996, but has made it clear his family are homesick and he wants to return south of the border.

Alan Stubbs has told Celtic that he will not be re-signing.

The defender's wife is homesick for England and Everton are leading the charge to sign him.

CELTIC hero Alan Stubbs is on the verge of quitting Parkhead - because he is desperate to prove himself to England.

The Hoops defender, a pounds 3.5 million buy from Bolton three years ago, has already been watched by Leeds boss David O'Leary this season.

But the 27-year-old, who still has another season of his contract to run, is keen for a move to England to show he has what it takes to make it on an international stage.

Last night he said: "It would certainly help my cause if I was more in focus in England.

ALAN STUBBS' claim that leaving Celtic for the Premiership would improve his chances of being picked for England was last night rubbished by John Gorman, the Scot who for two years served as Glenn Hoddle's assistant to the national team.

Gorman, a former Celt, insisted the real reason the 27-year-old's international career hasn't taken off has nothing to do with the fact he's playing in Scotland ... it's because he wasn't considered to be good enough.

The big defender has been angling for a move for some time, claiming his cap chances would improve with a move south.

Aston Villa, Leeds United and Derby County have all watched him recently, although no formal bid has been made for the player who missed last night's match against Motherwell because of an ankle injury.

Stubbs, whose homesick wife Mandy has returned to Merseyside with their two children, allegedly vowing never to return, is desperate to quit Parkhead as soon as possible

Stubbs, meanwhile, has criticised Celtic's outgoing chief executive, Fergus McCann, and pleaded with his replacement to let him leave Glasgow. Stubbs believes McCann went back on an agreement to allow him a move to England, where his wife Mandy returned with their two children a month ago.

The former Bolton player is currently out of the Celtic side with a foot injury but called on McCann's replacement, Allan MacDonald, to show more compassion when he takes over at Parkhead on 1 July.

"Family must come before football," he said. "I was badly let down by Fergus McCann, who gave me his word through Jock Brown that I could go back to England as long as Celtic were paid the same pounds 4m it cost to sign me.

"I'm now commuting between Glasgow and Liverpool to see my family whom I miss badly and that kind of situation cannot go on forever."

A bid from Aston Villa was turned down before the transfer deadline and struggling Everton are another club believed to be showing interest. "After Mr MacDonald was revealed as the new chief executive I had a meeting with him and explained the situation," Stubbs said.

"He seems to me to be a football man and as these are new times I hope something can be sorted out."

CELTIC'S defensive lynchpin Alan Stubbs is on his way to Sheffield Wednesday for a bargain pounds 3.5 million.

The SUNDAY MIRROR'S revelation comes as the the Premier Division leaders head for Dunfermline where they could clinch the Premier title following Rangers shock defeat against Kilmarnock yesterday.

The big English centre-half, snapped up by former Parkhead boss Tommy Burns for a record pounds 3.75m from relegated Bolton Wanderers in the summer of 1996, is under contract until 2001.

But a series of personal problems have left Stubbs and his wife Mandy desperate to return to England. Stubbs has been at pains to point out that his unhappiness in Glasgow has nothing to do with Celtic or his luxury home in Newton Mearns.

"He simply wants to be closer to Liverpool," said a source close to Stubbs, "For reasons I can't go into, Mandy is desperately homesick.

"Alan will take the move to Wednesday for sure. The only thing that could stop it now would be a call from Howard Kendall at Goodison Park. Everton have always been his favourites - he grew up a true Blue in Kirkby."

Stubbs is also believed to be unhappy at the way his England career has ground to a halt since his move to Celtic. He was called to a Bisham Abbey training camp by Terry Venables before Euro 96 but since Glenn Hoddle has been in the England hot-seat, Stubbs has failed to make an international impact.

Celtic will be particularly unhappy to lose Stubbs as they stuck with the 27-year-old defender through loss of form and injury problems at Parkhead.

Stubbs at Everton (on Rooney's transfer)

"I think if you ask the players, they would all prefer Wayne to still be here. We weren't bothered by the attention he got, because it was deserved. But we knew it was inevitable he would leave no matter how hard Everton tried to keep him. Some of the players thought he'd stay another season, but Wayne came back from the Euros and felt the time was right to move. Obviously there were a lot of disgruntled fans, but just think if he'd stayed and broke a leg, or done a cruciate ligament. Or if we'd got a Champions' League place and then he'd left. What would the fans have said then?

"As a fan myself I wanted him to stay, but I know how quickly things change in football. I told him he had to do what was best for himself."

Cash is a commodity that we can't throw about willy-nilly such is the fiscal position of the club at present.

For the sake of waiting 5 months, I say wait and sign him in January for nothing and offer Hibs a pittance because I reckon by then, promotion could be all but assured (hopefully!) and they'll have less to lose.
