Rangers linked with Javier Abella of Santos Laguna as Pedro Caixinha continues his summer overhaul at Ibrox

Full back Abella is well known to Caixinha from his time in charge at Santos.

Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha is on the trail of a third Mexican to join his revolution at Ibrox, according to the President of his former club Santos Laguna.

And the man who could reportedly follow compatriots Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera across the Atlantic to Ibrox is Santos full back Javier Abella.

The 23-year-old right back is wanted by Caixinha, according to sources in Mexico which state that negotiations between the two clubs have started.

The Rangers boss knows the player, capped eight times at under 20 level, well from his time in charge of Santos between 2013 and 2015.

And the Liga MX club's President Alejandro Irarragorri confirmed one of his stars was on Caixinha's list of targets with local reports naming that player as Abella.

Irarragorri is quoted: "I talk to him (Caixinha) continuously, I know why he leads the other two (Pena and Eduardo) and there is a Santos player that interests him and I think it's wonderful."

Meanwhile, a three man tribunal will today hear the work permit appeal on behalf of Mexican duo Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera as they close in on Rangers deals.

Rangers are hopeful of convincing the panel of the quality playmaker Pena and striker Herrera will bring to the Scottish game, with a decision expected almost immediately.

Reports last night stated Gers were shelling out close to £4m for the pair.

Caixinha has already made three signings with Bruno Alves, Ryan Jack and Dalcio all agreeing deals, the latter a year-long loan, to kick start the Portuguese gaffer's summer revolution.
