No quality, no bottle, no Progrès - Should the manager be sacked?

Recommended Posts

No longer a case of IF but WHEN and HOW the manager is replaced.

The sad thing is that you and some others believe in this stance.

Of course, he will eventually leave, one distant day in the future when his side has at least played some football.

It may not be a distant day in the future if we continue to get similar results to last week...

Yeah, but the mentality of some that this is a given is IMHO quite unreasonable.

Unreasonable? You know what's unreasonable, expecting a Rangers manager to put out a side that can beat the fourth best side in Luxembourg over two legs. Aye, that's unreasonable now. Tell me why should I have faith in PC?

Reading this would make you think Progres made short work of us and we did not hit the post and bar three times in the second game.

What is unreasonable is the close to hysteria-like reaction about games that happened with mostly half-fit and not so long ago deemed unworthy players ... quite a few of whom will not see a first team starting slot for quite some time. PC's ability is called into question when how many, 6 out of his 9 new players have not started the first game, same with the second? He get no time whatsoever to get his new squad playing a few games together ... and some won't probably forgive him unless he beats the Scum 4 times this season. That is what I - IMHO - call unreasonable.

I personally also think it is unreasonable to be blaming UEFA for our European downfall. You talk about us not having had a pre-season or having a ton of players to blend in - and the way in which you present it makes it look as if these are issues that Progres didn't have to face. In case you missed it, when we played Progres they were at the same stage of their pre-season as us and they had more players to blend in than we did, given they had 10 new players.

We lost the tie, simple as that. The sooner that we accept our own responsibility for going out of Europe instead of trying to point fingers of blame elsewhere the sooner will we be able to actually move forward. If we continually look to blame others for things that were well within our control we can neither improve nor progress as a Club.

Why were our players unfit? They had already been training for nearly a month. Have Prógres not the same season as we do? Why were they then fitter if fitness played a role. Surely it is the managers job to get his players fit? If we lost on fitness then the manager should definitely go.

Again, we weren't played out of the park. And anyone will agree that no matter how much you train and have some few bounce game minutes, good football only comes over a time. Yes, these footballers won't have forgotten about how to play the game in their short summer holiday, but likewise Progres is not made up of people who have been playing the game for a few weeks, but seasoned footballers. The total ignorance of that is quite astonishing ... and very akin to what the German media makes of German top notch sides and, not least, the national side. Either "we win as it befits us", or "we lose because we were rank". No matter what. That sentiment runs high on here.

AND IF those last years in the lower leagues will have told us anything, it can sure be that on the pitch - no matter what they do any other day - these people know how to play football too. 19 out of 20 times quality and professionalism will win the day. But last Tuesday Progres took their two main chances presented to them and we didn't.
