Ongoing new manager discussion and speculation

Recommended Posts

While I see a point in not waiting too long for appointing a new manager, the status quo hasn't changed for the last two weeks. Murty is in charge and the next couple of games against Dundee and Accies are very well in his and the team's capabilities. Whether the board will risk throwing a new manager in at the deep end with that double header against the Sheep is anyone's guess.

To be fair to him, he has always set up his teams to punch well above their weight. From memory, he got Shamrock Rovers into the Europa league proper. He has done exceptionally well with NI (qualified for the Euros, knock out stages of the World Cup) but imo that is where he should remain. Would probably do well with Scotland or a smaller international team but for all his considerable attributes, I would hope that we would not consider him for the Rangers manager's position.

He's done very well with NI. However, looking at Shamrock, they went straight into the play-off game, won it tightly after-extra-time, then proceeded to lose every game in the group stage. It seemed like a fluke. I've not even checked out their opponents, Partizan. He did win two league titles with Shamrock, but had a win-rate of 53%, something most were keen to criticise PC for.

He's done well with NI, but I agree, he's not for us.

The nearer it gets to the sheep double header with no McInnes deal in view the more I suspect it wont be happening. How uncomfortable would it be to bring him following matches in which his sheep side may have taken vital points from us?

That's not to say I think the sheep will beat us because what I actually think is that we only need to play to our capabilities and we can comfortably beat them. But the above scenario is just one reason i'm having doubts McInnes is even in the running now. Presuming he ever were.
