Ongoing new manager discussion and speculation

Recommended Posts

Passed it on weeks back . King has led the push for Mccinnes from day one and has had smith, McCoist, ferguson and miller back his choice. The DOF has also came round to agreeing with king no surprise.

He has been told to go ahead with his choice but the funds must be made available by him beforehand. In the meantime park and Co have went about identifying other options as a back up and hope of changing Kings mind. It's all been amicable, no fights or anything just positions stated with clarity.

It's believed by King that McInnes has a buy out clause of £750k that can be activated when paid in full.

I hope that's not true. The board need to be United in their choice.

" Aberdeen central midfielder Kenny McLean is expected to join Rangers at the end of the season, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claim that the Light Blues are set to make another move for the 25-year-old after Dons manager Derek McInnes confirmed he will be leaving the club when his contract expires.

The Daily Record report that a deal for the central midfield dynamo is likely to be done “next summer”.

Aberdeen held on to McLean during the last transfer window after fending off interest from rival club as McInnes set out to rebuild his squad following the departures of Jonny Hayes, Ryan Jack, Niall McGinn, Peter Pawlett and Ash Taylor.

McLean’s contract is up next summer and he is free to sign a pre-contract with a foreign club in January. "

I noted James McArthur being free to talk to anyone from January onwards, which might be not too bad an option, experience and ability wise - at least for our bred & butter SPFL games.

Can't say much about Kenny McLean, his return for Aberdeen last season was quite good for an attacking midfielder and potential was sure there. Could well be that his current season has been wrecked by all the transfer talk in the summer and all that went on with it up in Sheepland. We just saw what happened to Jack, so you wonder what goes on up there with players clearly not willing to stay and potentially going to Rangers.

But honestly, any new players will be picked by the new manager. The DR might be thinking that they are drawing the safe option here, since McInnes is a "foregone conclusion" and McLean will follow him. But at this moment in time, we are no wiser about a new manager than we were 2 weeks ago.

IMHO, as of now, McInnes does not exactly look that likely, given whom we deal with, how he himself dealt with us and that we should pay substantial compensation to a rival club. Likewise, despite having next to no money and being a Bluenose/former player himself, McInnes' pedigree ain't that awe-inspiring. We have seen it with Sir Walter that this is not a requirement to succeed at Rangers, but only time will tell. It will thus be a massive "wait and see" - game again ... and we all know how fickle the legions are.
