Pacific Quay Musings?

Strange creature isn’t he? If you asked Central Casting for a seminarian he’s the very fellow they would bring up.

You wouldn’t give him part, though. Couldn’t trust him with his lines.

Forgot to ask. Were any of the clowns from the BBC circus inside the room or was DG doing a voice over on the Sky  feed from the studio?

I don't believe BBC Scotland were represented?

It is possible that BBC HQ(Salford) were represented.

This evening, BBC Radio Scotland began coverage at 18.30hrs, spoke about the Thistle/Ross County game for 15 minutes, then announced Gerrard taking over the Ibrox hot seat. The Screaming Shill repeated this afternoon's critique, Rangers supporters welcome of Gerrard rivaled ra Yahoos welcome of Brenda. Then, is was all about the challenge facing Gerrard, we were reminded of the Brenda's absolute dominance. The Beeb then credited the Press Association for excerpts aired of interviews with both King and Gerrard.

You have to marvel at the wonderment of the Screaming Shill, he speaks without flaw, articulating his particular brand of hate with a full mouth.

Mrs Rodgers will be getting jealous.

Posted the following in another thread but thought it also belonged here.

Chris McLaughlin was brought in by the 5Live programme on SG/Rangers to answer questions of English pundits about the appointment.

He forgot to inform them and the listeners that he nor anyone from BBC Scotland were at Ibrox for the press conference.

------------------

I think now would be a goodtime to make an effort to inform the BBC and viewers/listeners of the long standing BBC Scotland choice of not coming to Ibrox.

From the Aberdeen 1-1 Rangers game where Aberdeens goal came from a penalty that wasn't.

What the match reports said

------------------

First Chris McLaughlin of BBC Scotland

On a rare foray forward, McLean was caught late inside the box by Morelos and referee Steven McLean pointed to the spot instantly.

--------------

Now the rest, who would seem to have been at a different match

The Scotsman

Morelos made what referee McLean considered a more telling touch in the other penalty area nine minutes later to concede the penalty which brought Aberdeen’s performance to life. It was certainly a highly debatable decision as the striker appeared to get a toe on the ball when challenging Kenny McLean as Rangers struggled to clear a corner. Once the protests of the visitors had subsided, McLean stepped up and confidently sent Jak Alnwick the wrong way from the spot.

----------------

Daily Record

McInnes’s side forced a couple of quick corners, the first came to nothing but the second was knocked short in to McLean and he ended up on the deck after going for the ball along with Morelos.

Ref Steven McLean pointed to the spot and while Gers were furious, namesake Kenny kept his head to fire the Dons in front.

-------------------

Sky Sports (very short report)

Kenny McLean - leaving for Norwich in the summer - converted a controversial early penalty (14) to set the hosts on course for a victory that would have secured European football for a fifth successive season, as well as ensuring they would finish above Rangers for the fourth time in a row.

-----------------

BT Sports

The Dons took the lead after 14 minutes – and they had referee Steven McLean to thank.

Alfredo Morelos clearly got a touch to the ball as he tried to nick in before McLean collected Ryan Christie’s low corner.

But the official got his decision all wrong as his namesake hit the deck, pointing to the spot without hesitation.

--------------

The Scottish Sun

The penalty he awarded the Dons after 14 minutes was hugely controversial.

When Alfredo Morelos and Kenny McLean – no relation – came together inside the box there was one big question the ref had to answer.

Who got to the ball first?

At first look it seemed that the Aberdeen midfielder had managed to nick a touch on it before being clattered a nano-second later by the Colombian.

Which in all fairness explained the official’s decision to point to the spot.

But the more closely TV replays were studied, the more questionable it got with Morelos every right to claim he was hard done by.

Rob MacLean's morning sports bulletin report for BBC Good Morning Scotland just said it was a penalty as well.  Laughable.

Moreso, given their own video highlights (featuring the much more professional Paul Mitchell) said the decision was poor.

Exactly. The worst thing about it was that their own commentator had stated the obvious, but they've gone out of their way to contradict him in the match report. They really aren't trying at all to heal relations with the club.

Over the last several years, opposition supporters have a mantra reference our supposed sense of entitlement!

It seems to me BBC Scotland have a most keen sense of entitlement when it comes to matters Rangers. Big Dick Gordon did not want to talk about the penalty decision after surveying other reports on the matter. He wanted to make Rangers indiscipline problem the line to be taken. Remember, this objective host of the show was reduced to reading out a list of alleged offences credited to Ryan Jack, demanding the Compliance Officer take note. There were no dissenting voices, there never is; it has led to a lazy and often inaccurate take on our club.

Last weekend, the appointment of Gerrard saw all the usual suspects at Beeb Scotland, rush to get all the platitudes out of the way, before reverting to ridicule type. eg Tom English at the Edinburgh/Munster rugby match dominates Big Dick, Wullie Miller, and Chico; he tells them that Rangers are 12 points better off than last season? I believe we achieved 67 points last season. Chico is in the other studio watching RTV, covering our game with Killie. He tells us that Bates came off the bench to score with five minutes left. The same clip is used in the next day's roundup of Saturday's Premiership action. No one corrects English or Chico, no one is interested in doing so. Where did English find such a stat and who was beside Russell Martin in central defence during the first half?

Beeb Scotland's 'improved service' this season has seen a program regular confined to 'the other studio' to provide updates on our games at Ibrox. It began with Craig Paterson and Richard Wilson, they got out of a clearly uncomfortable position after a few weeks and they no longer appear on the show at all. Then, it was Steven Thompson, he lasted a month, and was not comfortable either. His partnership with Michael Stewart on Sportscene arrived and saved him further discomfort. Rob McLean was next up, didn't like it either, and he is back commentating. Since the turn of the year, it has been the Pensioner, Chico, and he is anxious to provide the impression he is not interested, it shows.

Their phone call to the opposition manager after an Ibrox match is intermittent. If they win, it's all triumphalism and gloating. If they lose, mostly they don't appear, or if your Owen Coyle you use the opportunity as a grievance line. There is no continuity, and no interest in providing a service to license fee paying Rangers supporters.
