Massive decision this summer

It has become somewhat vogue to point at Murty's pedigree ... [?] ... He's not much younger (a year or the like) than Sir Walter was when he stepped out of Souness' shadow ... and has had to work in a significantly more challenging environment.

Take a look at what Smith was doing prior to becoming Rangers manager.

Compare it to what Murty has been doing.

Murty has not had his apprenticeship; he's not learned from a proper manager; he's just been given a youth coach role then straight into this role.

It's not something we didn't already know. I'm not sure why there is this sudden 'realisation' that he's not good enough?

Our support has a habit of veering from one extreme to another (especially online).

Win 3 games on the trot and we think we're going to win the European Cup and lose a couple and we think the entire club is an absolute shambles.

Murty's record at Ibrox simply isn't good enough...his CV prior to his managerial stint is largely irrelevant.

We sure do spend a lot of time yearning for what probably isn’t available to us.

We got Souness, we got Advocaat and we got Le Guen. The first was in an entirely different era. The second needed absurd money and lasted five minutes. The third was a disaster and didn’t last five seconds. No one else had significant managerial profile before they became our manager and, given our finances and the league we play in, there’s almost no chance of acquiring a high-calibre, proven manager again. So before dismissing Murty it might be wiser to think of the manager he has yet to become and fret less over the unobtainable.

I can't argue with that, but Murty is too inexperienced. To became the manager he may become -- he may well become a good one -- he has to learn the ropes first; he can't learn the ropes here, IMO.

Chances are we’ll just end up as a stepping stone for some other part-finished manager ... or another self-promoting dud like Caixinha. We all know what we need but if we can’t get it there has to be more than endless frustration. If Murty is lacking something then the club has to help him get it and we have to offer our faith and encouragement - it might just achieve miracles ?

Whatever we decide to do it can’t go on like this.  The atmosphere was dreadful yesterday - largely silent apart from groans and negativity.  Even the guys in BF1 were relatively quiet.

Before long the fans will just start to drift away.  The support have turned out in high numbers for the last 6 years but if there’s no direction from either the board or the team on the park then how much longer is that going to last?

To be fair, Ibrox has always been flat after a defeat against that lot, regardless of our league position.

I said to a mate prior to the match that the atmosphere would be poor.

While that’s true I thought yesterday was as quiet as I’ve ever heard it.  Maybe that’s due to it being a terrible game and the fact it was Baltic.

Regardless, we need some direction as a club.  We’re going nowhere at the minute and Murty, while being a nice guy and an upgrade on Pedro, probably isn’t going to have us seriously challenging for anything any time soon.
