Bates was our best defender and an extension excellent prospect that was on less than 2k weekly. We have a permed charlatan picking up more than 25k weekly is hole sunning himself and drinking tequila! Unless Bates demanded a guarantee of being in starting 11 (v unlikely) we’ve let ourselves down here. A young Scottish player who is very good at what matters as a centre back. It's not really a ransom if other clubs are willing to pay him more. It's just a lad and his agent getting the best deal. These things have to be weighed up by all interested parties.
