The Summer 2018 Transfer Window Rumours and Deals

He is and plays like the guy you hate to see in an opponents shirt (not least given his history and the bampot he played for), but essentially would love to have yourself. Him against Brown would be a feast to behold.

We normally agree on most things but i am surprised you say that we don't need to strengthen the midfield. Dorrans, Halliday and Holt are not good enough. Windass is the only really attacking midfielder we have and there are certainly questions about him. Jack never really set the grass on fire but his presence was very short. I actually think he started to play better when McCrorie came in as a defensive mid and Jack moved slightly more forward. Docherty is still young and more for the future if he improves. He isn't ready to lead the midfield yet.

Arfield, Murphy, Candieas, Dorrans, Windass, Jack, Docherty, McCrorie (he's a midfielder, not a defender in my opinion), Holt, Halliday, Rossiter and Barjonas. We've got options in midfield and I agree it can always be strengthened I'm just not sure McGeough does that significantly. Plus, he left us for them, so it's a hard no from me ;-)

I forgot about Arfield and Rossiter. I don't know anything about Arfield tbh but Rossiter if kept fit will certainly be an improvement to what we have. That staying fit is the worry though.

SPFL Radar haven't made a graph on him but they've commented that they think what McGinn does is harder than what McGeoch does and McGinn makes McGeoch to look better. Have to say that's my impression of McGeoch, he does the basics well (keeping possession etc) but he's never stood out in the way that McGinn often does.

Yes, I agree. For me, McGinn is the better player.

Like you said above, I would still take McGeoch on a free; easy decision.

If I were to compare McGeouch to a modern day Rangers player then it would be Hemdani.

For free he's worth looking at but only if we're moving on various other midfielders such as Holt and Halliday to name but two.

I agree. Appears a no brainer but we have so many similar players on the books already.

We also need to be recruiting more goal scoring midfielders. Our midfield often just doesn’t have goals in it. There will always be games when your strikers need bailed out by a long shot from midfield or a free kick specialist or a big man with a header. McGeoch didn’t score in 42 games last season.

For me, that has been one of our on-going issues....too often we have failed to do the basics.

One of our best players over the years was Sasa Papac (IMHO)...never flamboyant or ever really stood out, but simply did his job well & kept it simple.

These last ten days, I have been lazing in the sun. The southern French town of Bandol, within spitting distance of Toulon. Yesterday, I met an old mate for lunch in said naval port and he announces he had spied Mr Gerrard the evening before in a swanky bistro, sharing a repast with a tall black chap. Of course, Monsieur Pogba is unhappy at Man U; we could put two and two together to solve our defensive midfield frailties? Or, we could accept that Stevie was sharing war stories with Serge Blanco. I liked Serge.

Let the speculation flow.
