[FT] Rangers 3 (Morelos 43, 90+4; Tavernier 84 pen) - 1 Rapid Vienna

Recommended Posts

We now know we are capable of getting excellent results at a very good level.

In Europe, we are having a ball.

Domestically, we have to get to a level where we can get results consistently.

This season that is more difficult because of 2 main reasons.

- In the short term the European games will inevitably have an affect.

- The standard amongst what are likely to be Top Six teams has improved in the last year.

A tad OTT Pete. Everyone is delighted with last night but I still think it's fair to assess the performance in terms of the wider picture and how the team is developing.

Yes but assessing is also picking out the positive points and not only the negative. For example: Worrel reads a good move by Rapid  striker and makes a fantastic tackle  on him. He passes to Ejaria who loses the ball. The tackle Worrel made is forgotten and the Ejaria loss of the ball is plastered everywhere. McGregor probably had one of his easiest nights in Europe yesterday but we only managed 1 shot on goal in the first half is the discussion point.

He's a not so dandy don Frankie. Another irrelevance from the Fourth Estate.

You gotta feel for the poor wee lambs........years of banging their head against the EL 3rd round qualifier and they have to watch us saunter by them into the group stages and doing very well, thank-you.

I'm sure in their heart of hearts they are thinking of the co-efficient and the good of the Scottish game as they cheer for us on a Thursday evening.

If shots on goal is the only barometer on how we are playing then why did laudrup, Gazza  and all those Rangers legends of the past not have 12-20 positive shots on goal every week. I think some  Rangers supporters forget we have an opponent to break down. Teams don't just stand and say let Rangers play good. A few years ago we were happy to beat Alloa and Brechin City and now we are punching it out with the sub-top teams in Europe. Even Alfredo looks happy so let's join him.

Aye Pete, for the most part they were happy to sit back and hit on the counter last night. They started brightly but apart from that they were hard to break down.

Im still on cloud nine from last night. What an atmosphere all around the stadium and takes you back to the good times!

Such a good feeling going into work this morning. Even better when people kept coming up to ask me what the game was like.

It’s been a long time since we’ve felt this good. Long may it continue

That midfield three does work - that was obvious from their second half showing.

They just need to maintain a higher intensity and offer more belief like they did in the second half compared to the first.

The good news is with Jack, Rossiter and Dorrans all pretty much available now too, we have plenty of options if player A or B doesn't do that.

We really miss the composite Jack brings. He takes balls off defenders and we build better from the back. Our CHs sometimes lack composure and we end up starting poor sequences of possession with poor distribution from the CHs.

I thought we were very good at one side of the game and not good at another but a bit of magic from Ejaria was the difference. It's frustrating to be rebuked for mentioning any negatives, told to cheer up and reminded yet again of the League 2 days when you've only made some pretty balanced comments about how you saw the game.

Some of us come on here to analyse the game a little bit afterwards and I think others come on primarily to celebrate and that's what causes a bit of friction.

They should all be cheering us on as we single handedly drive Scotland up the co-efficient rankings after years of failure from the sheep etc. Last night pushed us up one more place to 20th. Get to 15th and we would have two CL spots.

Even 17th would mean our single entrant could bypass the CL first qualifying round.
