In terms of who gives Jackson and co his stories that's easy, it's Barry Ferguson. Our previous manager enjoys a cosy relationship with the tabloids where information passes both ways. The framing of this story is interesting. It's putting pressure on Martin, the man who got the job Ferguson wanted to keep. It also discredits the decision makers at the club and John Souttar. I wonder who that benefits. I'd be astonished if the club CEO, new director of football (or whatever his title is), medical staff, Souttar and his agent weren't all involved in agreeing this.

I'm not sure the exact (contractual) ins and outs but I doubt the club can force and employee to have an operation when he doesn't want one.

Whilst I don't disagree, someone from the medical / management team allowed him to play in meaningless games for both club and country. Whoever that was is as guilty as Souttar.

If this is indeed true I will be very disappointed if this was approved by anyone at the club.

I don't think there's any doubt about the reason. He has put playing in a meaningless friendly for Scotland above playing in a crucial CL qualifier for Rangers. Reprehensible. Get rid ASAP.
