We should model ourselves on Ajax. They're forever selling players to the big leagues but they still manage to compete in the CL. They always seem to have a young player ready to step in to the shoes of the departed one. In a minor way we did this with McLeod coming in for Ness/McCabe. Maybe if McKay goes in the future he could be replaced by Charlie Telfer (see Elfideldo's blog). I would prefer this to seeing a procession of semi-retired journeymen winding down their career here.

If what you say is true then we had better stop rearing young players - there would be no point at all. Surely now though, there will be no need for us to sell, like Killie and Aberdeen. Keep promising youths on long contracts and cash in when it suits US.

If this comes off it would be a stunning signing. It would mean we've replaced Aluko with Templeton, Naismith with Shiels, Edu with Black, Ness with McLeod, Whittaker with Argyriou, Lafferty with Little - plus we've unearthed McKay. Y'know - we could have a better team than a year ago. Wow.

For those not old enough to remember: his Dad, Henry Templeton, was a great little winger for Ayr. In those days we produced wingers of that type as though it was a production line.

You're putting an Alistair Campbell-type spin on things. Course I'm pleased that other clubs are envious. But we should never be a bloody nursery club for anyone; that's what we would be if we let youngsters go on the cheap before Rangers FC has had some mileage out of them. We may not be able to make big-money signings anymore but we should be financially sound enough to at least rebuff cursory approaches for our jewels. If you're happy for good young players to be cherry-picked for Everton reserves before they've played a dozen games for us (and with minimal compensation into the bargain) then you're a different kind of Rangers fan from me.

You forgot to add Fink who I believe is 30. Younger players, like Templeton, with sell-on value - that must be our strategy now. I don't want to see us repeat the policy of the McLeish era when we were virtually an elephant's graveyard. We've already lost Ness and McCabe for no fees. Any selling now should be done only when we've had a reasonable service - say three years - from a good prospect.

It also claims that Everton are chasing Barrie McKay. If we are going to lose players of his calibre and sign such as the 30 year old Fink, then we should simply scrap our youth policy, sell Auchenhowie and turn RFC into a rest home for former failed footballers. Seriously, this is the worst news I have heard since we went into admin. Get Barrie on a new contract NOW.

Just what I feared - more veteran players keeping youngsters out of the team. If we are going to sign players at least let them have some sort of sell-on value if they do well. This just smacks of desperation. Pace Ostenstad, Capucho, Faye etc.....

Yes, John Fleck is now in League One with Coventry trying to salvage his reputation. Don't remember anyone having the hype he had; seems he was good at youth level because of his strength but now he's less effective as older players are at least his equal.

So to give MP the credit a player has to be with there virtually full-time? I should have said our youth policy/scouting system.BTW what happened to the re-naming of MP? Hope Green hasn't forgotten.
