I can only watch games he is commentating on with the mute button pressed, a grade A buffoon and a bigot. There is no professionalism, no impartiality, but the slavering ramblings of a bigot. Same on SKY with the Crock-a-shit & Wa*ker double act. As for Suttons columns in the papers, I plead again with Gersnet admin not to put them in here. There is a general football room where this belongs as Sutton talking about Rangers is not something Rangers fans should be concerned with. Same for Hartson/Waddell/Smith and all the other Rangers hating scribes.

The Summer Transfer Rumour Round-up Thread
Tannochsidebear replied to der Berliner's topic in Rangers Chat
Did Tav sign an improved deal with us in the summer? If not, his original buy-out clause will still be valid which I heard about from a nailed on source when we signed him, and it is quite a low number! It was a bargaining chip due to the fact he could have got a LOT more money elsewhere but came here knowing that if he was sold he would be able to negotiate better with a small buy-out figure. As for this PNE lad, a striker scoring 6 goals in a season is dreadful, but their fans dont want him to go??? -
[FT] Dundee 1 - 2 Rangers (Forrester 14; Miller 39)
Tannochsidebear replied to pete's topic in Rangers Chat
Only seen the game live so not had the benefit of any replays, but FWIW here's my two cents; Started very sloppily, I counted 10 mistakes (misplaced passes mainly) in the first 10 minutes, then we get a goal out of nothing. Probably the worst we have started a game for a long time but we get in front when we have destroyed teams without scoring. Thats football. My bugbear with the team selection was that he has brought in Hill as last seasons defence everyone knows is not good enough, then plays last seasons defence. You know for a fact that we will concede from a set piece, and of course our woeful defence obliged. I also believe Halliday is a championship player and is not good enough for the first team this season. He doesnt create anything in this advanced role, and doesnt read the game well enough to assist his fellow teammates with opening up space often enough. If we are to play Rossiter & Barton, we need a creator as the third midfield player, be that Nico, Holt or even Forrester/McKay. Playing Miller up front is playing a man down. He was truly awful again yesterday, one good finish aside his general play was awful, he was never up with play, he failed to run into space, and the sitter just before half time was typical, as was when put clean through and didnt even get a shot off. If we continue to play him, we will continue to struggle. Its that simple. I acutally thought it was his man that scored as when the big ging got his free header, from my angle in the main stand at the corner flag Miller was closest to him marking nobody so I thought it was his man, but I read from here it was more Barton or Kiernan. The very fact there is doubt shows how badly we defended it as a team. Rossiter had a very good first half and a very quiet second half. Perhaps to be expected given his lack of pre-season and experience. Forrester was good first half and then went on a suicide mission in the second half. I thought the booking he got was a terrible decision where the defender conned the ref (a willing victim!) into the card and as soon as it was given he was up and ready to play on. But having been booked he lunged into a couple of tackles and it was very poor management not to hook him off right away. What was more worrying to me was that after we replaced our weaker players with better ones at the same time as Dundee made two subs, it was Dundee's subs that had the greater impact on the game. The number 20 caused us no end of grief, a real terrier like player that got stuck right in and we couldnt contain him. I correctly named the two subs off and on and the minute they would come on before kick off. MW's policy of using subs as squad rotation and nothing to do with game management is truly the most ridiculous strategy I have ever seen. For all the fantastic work he is doing off the park re-building our club upwards and onwards, his 90 minute management is non-existent. If he is to reach the top in football (cant quite believe managing Rangers is no longer seen as the top!), he must learn how to alter tactics and use his subs to change the flow of matches during the game. No idea how Thomson can see the off the ball kick (didnt see it myself either-going on reports) by diddly dee and not send him off. How is it possible to kick someone off the ball and not get sent off? Can you imagine Barton being afforded the same luxury? As usual Thomson wants to be the star in a tv game, controlling the game with his usual mixture of arrogance and errors that more often than not ends with both sets of supporters cursing him. How he remains a top class ref is a sad reflection of the standards in Scottish refereeing. I was very pleased with the professionalism shown by us in the final 10 minutes by seeing the game out. We should have scored at the death if McKay squares it to MOH for a tap-in instead of forcing a good save but other than at corners Dundee didnt seem much of a threat when our focus was on defence and not attack. Glad to come away with the three points, it gives us another week to get in a centre half (2 would be better) and a striker and gives the squad a full midweek without a match to work on defending set pieces. -

Shocking team selection byMW. We better win or he is going to get slaughtered. -

That is my fear as well that he is going to be too loyal to players who cannot play at this level, or who are simply not in as good form as others. He tended to do this last season also, although it was not as noticeable given the lack of options. -
If they could be arsed I'm sure the SPFL could sell to right to the second tier to BBC Alba for 30 bob and a bottle of Irn Bru, then move lots of games to Friday nights, Saturday mornings, Sunday afternoons etc and let's hear them moan about games being moved for very little money and they can begin to feel what we went through. Dundee Utd, Hibs, St Mirren, Raith, scummy clubs one and all.

Miller by all accounts is a perfect trainer, a model professional, and would no doubt be an excellent role model for younger players to look up to. He just has a dreadful first touch, is a really poor finisher, terrible in the air, his positional sense leaves a lot to be desired and his pace has long since ceased to be a threat. In short, I have no problem with Miller the man being around the place, I just dont rate the player on the park and dont want him in the team because I believe he weakens it by being there.

From MW's presser and other guesses, I think the team will line up thus; Gilks Hodson Wilson Kiernan Wallace Rossiter Barton Forrester OHalloran Dodoo McKay I am not sure if Holt is ready yet to start the game, but would like to see him get some game time as from what I have seen so far, he is still the type of player we need in midfield. Barton needs to be doing his work much further upfield, I was very frustrated watching him take the ball off Wes and after looking about for a wee while pass it to Kiernan or Hill. He cant use his passing accuracy effectively from our own 18 yard box. He has to be getting the ball at the half way line and looking forward, not at our 18 yard line and looking sideways. I will also say that on Saturday his two midfield partners were like statues when barton is looking up for a pass in these situations, so that didnt help him. More pace in midfield is required with willing runners going into space to ensure we have forward options. I want to see more of Dodoo to see if he can be a positive influence, and also can MOH play a central role for us. We desparately need someone to step up in the central striking role with Waggy out as we cannot afford to play Miller there from the start of games. I agree this is the type of game McKay should be rested in, but I think MW knows he is by far our most creative player and without him we are a worse team, therefore will play him to try to win the game, then we can save him at the hour mark. As long as I dont see Miller in the starting line up, I will be happy to back us to win both halfs tonight (10/11), plus perhaps a -2 handicap (10/11). I believe we need a good performance and result going into a really tough looking game at Dens on Saturday lunchtime.

Kenny Miller v Hamilton - Saint or Sinner?
Tannochsidebear replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
You can add me to that. I did think the title was strange, unless you are a racing fan that goes to Hamilton races at the end of June of course. Do you think the author, in whose bio is states he is from the US, is an ex-pat from that area and was very clever/subtle with his title heading? Driggs, if you are still around can you answer this please? -
Every Rangers fan knew last year that the two centre halfs needed replaced. Before we bought another million midfielders/wingers, we had to get this right. No team wins a top tier title that cannot defend. Ever. If we have blown the budget on Barton/Nico/Rossiter/Hodson/Dodoo/Gilks/Windass/Crooks then the management will have failed in their duty. I dont think we have blown the budget and that we have enough available to acquire a decent quality CH. I am not sure after taking on board the Brentford fans, and seeing first hand last season, that MW would know a centre half if he was standing beside him! Perhaps he should delegate this to his assistant. He needs to get this sorted out quickly. I know it, we on Gersnet know it, the fans that were there on Saturday know it, and the dog in the street knows it. Any chance of the title depends on it.

If that is true then a disrepute charge should be forthcoming. No laughing at the back!

Kenny Miller v Hamilton - Saint or Sinner?
Tannochsidebear replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
There is certainly a place for the type of analysis you obviously spent a lot of time on, and on a fans forum such as this it is a great discussion piece, so from that perspective I add my thanks to the others to you for taking the time to do it, even if I disagree with your conclusions. I would add that you do not see the same game on the tv as you do live in person, as you do not see a lot of the off the ball work done, the missed opportunities when players are in space out of picture, how slow some players are to read the game when you can see danger coming and they dont move until too late. None of these things can possibly be picked up by your type of analysis which purely uses tv cameras footage. I also thought your choice of player was very strange to do the analysis on. Miller had an absolute howler, there is no defence for a performance that poor. I admit I have a blind spot for Miller in that I have never rated him as a player and think he is possibly the most over-rated player we have ever had. But I dont want to go into another Miller rant (Gersnet gives a collective sigh of relief!) Strikers are easy to judge. The analysis you have done is better suited to defenders or midfielders. I would have enjoyed reading you doing the same thing on Nico for last Saturday, or Barton, where it is easier to miss things they did well or didnt do well in the conjested midfield area. Or for one of the other new players perhaps as we havent seen a lot of them so far. Welcome to the best Rangers forum out there Driggs! -
Also good to note he is going to give starting slots to Gilks, Hodson, Rossiter & Dodoo. It will be good to see 4 of our summer signings in competitive action, and probably more game time for Forrester & O'Halloran as well I would imagine. From that interview I would suggest the team might be something like; Gilks Hodson Wilson Kiernan Wallace Rossiter Barton Forrester OHalloran Dodoo McKay I think perhaps Nico, Hill, Miller, will all be on the bench. Unless I have missed someone?

Kenny Miller v Hamilton - Saint or Sinner?

Next week we look at how our central defence has actually been better than Gough & Butcher and are simply misunderstood! -
Always comes across well. Very interesting comments at the end of the video about the state of the player market.

Kenny Miller v Hamilton - Saint or Sinner?
Tannochsidebear replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Is this Saddam's spin doctor writing this tripe? What a lot of absolute tosh that was, my soup nearly ended up all over me/the screen a few times. Miller was rightly slated for a dreadful performance because the 50,000 Bears that were in attendance could see that he played poorly, never causing the Hamilton defence an inch of trouble all day and was hooked much much later than he should have. The difference to our attacking intent was as clear as day when we scored within a couple of minutes of him going off, from a pass into an area that Miller never inhabits despite supposedly being a central striker. So because Halliday doesnt pass to him in a wide area where Miller usually passes it back to whoever gave him the ball a dozen times before, Miller is under-rated? Give me strength! A couple of the snap-shots show a ball wide with Miller at the edge of the box, with a defender easily within reach, and this is acceptable. With Miller's first touch as it is, no defender needs to be touch tight on him, and his failure to get into scoring positions INSIDE the box is really letting the side down. It is yet more proof that you can do whatever the hell you like with statistics to prove a point, and yet be so far away from what actually happened as to be embarrassing. I was reminded when reading that guff of the wee Youtube clips you see of a player we are linked with and for 2 minutes they look like world-beaters because it only focuses on the rare moments of good play. For anyone to try to turn that hour of utter crap from Miller on Saturday into everyone else's fault instead of him would be hilarious if it was intended as such. Sadly I think the author believes it. -

I'm with Bearman here, every time I see an update in here I click hoping to see a centre half being bought, only to be disappointed. (Apologies for anyone who has just done the same and had to read this instead!) -
Rangers v Hamilton - Our mission, should we choose to accept it...
Tannochsidebear replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Come on dB, Butcher & Gough were world class centre halfs, while our current trio are most certainly not ever going to be called anything other than honest pros. Put B&G into this team and it looks completely different. No more shitting ourselves at set pieces, no more fumbling around when the opponent has the ball, no more disorganised starting positions. The simple fact of the matter is that it is not our system that makes us look bad at defending, it is bad defenders playing bad defence. -

Highlight of the day was the video highlights of our game on this day in 1989 v Spurs when we thrashed them 1-0! What a team we had then. Woods, Stevens, Butcher, Gough, Munro, Steven, Ferguson, Wilkins, Walters, McCoist, Mojo. I'd take any one of them in an instant over today's side. Butcher & Gough v Kiernan & Hill makes me want to cry! This wee link is worth a read from official site - scroll down to find the game in question. Spurs had some great players at that time also including Mabbutt, Gazza & Lineker. http://rangers.co.uk/news/features/feature-previous-spurs-friendlies/ -
Wes -5. only 2 shots at goal all day and you concede one its not good. Too slow to pick a pass. Tav-7 defended better than usual, bombed forward all day, very little help. Hill-5 was hoping his experience would help organise us, looks lost. Kiernan-5 should have been moved on in summer. Wallace-7 got forward all day, defended well. Barton-7 was he supposed to be playing sweeper? I don't think he was brought here to take the ball off Wes inside his own box, he can't hurt anyone from there. Fought hard, has a good range of passing, tried to gee others up. Nico-4 marked tightly and had no space to work in, the odd time he got free he was fouled. Welcome to Scotland. Looks miles off pace. Halliday-6 worked hard, had a good attempt at goal but created nothing in free midfield role. We have better options. McKay-6 had the full back beaten in first 15 mins, then the full back adjusted to being much tighter and more physical and Barrie found it hard to get past him. Waghorn-7 biggest danger to Hamilton today and should have been played centrally. Good finish (dodgy keeper?) and always direct -we are going to miss him again. Miller-2 abysmal. How he came out for second half is a mystery. Forrester-6 looked good, should have been on earlier. Ohalloran-5 done well but too predictable playing on right without any ability in his right foot, always having to cut back onto left or sclaff with right. Rossiter-5 was busy scurrying around midfield mopping up. Warburton-4 wrong selection with a midfield 3 that has no urgency or creativity in it, and the utterly useless Miller at CF which is just wrong on so many levels. His failure to sort out the centre halfs despite it being glaringly obvious for a year is worrying. His double sub was 15 mins too late, and at 1-1 with 15 to go he brings on a holding midfielder with Dodoo on the bench was stupidity of the highest order. These are all the same mistakes he made all last season and it seems he hasn't learned anything.

Taking that on one step Boabie, after being sued by Rangers, RR goes into administration/liquidation, meaning Rangers have no contract with RR to supply any merch at all and Rangers are therefore free to arrange a new deal with another supplier (probably not SD!)
-
I am very confident we will be!

Superb!! Now bring in a good centre half or two and a striker and we are there!
