If I remember correctly, Hearts put a 2 to 3 million price tag on David Templeton about a year or so before we bought him and the fact that there were no takers at that sort of price probably speaks volumes, but that's a different subject. I think a lot of us were pleased (even delighted in some cases!) when we signed Templeton, even if it cost £0.75m. The fact that he's disappointed for various reasons including the stop-start nature of his appearances/chances during Ally's time as manager has a massive impact on our perception of the player, but everyone can see the guy has some notable skills that other players don't. He's twice (or more!) the player Lee Wallace is with the ball at his feet and Wallace cost double the amount. As for Barrie McKay, it's well known about the alleged attitude issues, but a good man manager should be able to work with any player. You only have to look at the top sides in the EPL & Europe and some of the skilled, but temperamental prima donnas getting regular starts to see that good players get a game, full stop.

So the SPFL sell the broadcasting rights for all of the matches to BT Sport, thus potentially reducing the gate receipts for the clubs, but also demand payment of 50% of the gross gate receipt takings before costs? Between that and the BT Sport decided match scheduling, it's a complete joke.

David Templeton & Barrie McKay are clearly more talented football players than Fraser Aird is, but despite their clear natural ability with a football, Ally McCoist who (allegedly!) had fall outs with both Templeton & McKay chose to opt for Aird. So, the questions are: Did Ally see something in Aird that a lot of others didn't? Was Aird actually looking like a better player or better option in training? Or were there - as rumoured - various clashes of opinion between Ally and some of his players? It's an interesting subject actually because I think the article in the OP is completely wrong when it asserts that McCall is responsible for dropping Aird. From what I could see and from what I remember without looking it up, as soon as Ally stepped down and Kenny McDowall took over Fraser Aird was almost immediately given far less chances.

I want to see young lads given a good length of contract, but only the most talented ones and I don't think this lad falls into that category. We shouldn't be awarding long contracts to young lads just because they're hard workers with a good attitude, it should be based more on their ability.

His touch has always been poor at times, but very good at others. At the beginning of this season he was providing some lovely assists for Clark and others, but not banging in the goals himself like we were expecting him to. I think his initial goal drought this season really effected him mentally because he was under a lot of pressure to score goals and it just wasn't happening for him for a variety of reasons. Unfortunately, that bad start has effected his whole season because he was dropped to give others a chance and there's been virtually no way back for him.

He was always a heavier built player and a bit cumbersome looking on the ball at times, but we've seen some good play and nice touches from him this season even although it's been disappointing for both him and us in terms of his goal tally.

SFA appoint a new non-executive director to their board
Zappa replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Oh well, at least it takes him off the list of prospective candidates for so-called 'independent' review & disciplinary panels! -
Paying his wages and associated costs for three years could cost the Club five, six, maybe even seven times that amount!

It might be slightly unfair in the sense that I was in a rush earlier and didn't have time to talk the lad up by saying that no doubt part of the reason he was rewarded with so many starts and appearances was for being a keen lad who kept his head screwed on and worked really hard in training etc. The bottom line though, is that he isn't good enough. That's obviously just in my opinion, but it's not one I've plucked out of thin air. I've been at a lot of the home games he's played in and any games I haven't attended I've watched on TV or online, so if you've seen practically every single game the lad's played in and you've formed a personal opinion on him I think it's fair game to voice that opinion within reason. Yes, he's just a lad and yes he's playing in the worst Rangers team in history, but if we're honest about it he probably wouldn't even get a sniff of first team action in a good Rangers team. As for him having been given a contract until 2018, I can't even comprehend what that's all about because I don't think we've seen enough talent to warrant it.
-
He's done quite well for us at times while playing absolutely shit the rest of the time. I don't rate the lad at all. I don't think he got so many games for us because he was good enough, but because his face fitted for Ally and the magic clipboard.

Constant mixed messages - the real Rangers sickness
Zappa replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Yes he is. Good guy as well. -
Eck should always be made to feel very VERY welcome at Ibrox as a guest, but that's as far as it should go unless we end up in another pickle and he's willing to step in on a very short-term basis like McCall's done to try to achieve something out of nothing in a season gone pear-shaped like this one.

Rangers manager Stuart McCall "sickened" by Lee McCulloch boos
Zappa replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
I definitely don't agree with booing our own players during a game, but I agree with a lot of the other comments in this thread in the sense that I think the real sickening aspect of this is that most don't think Lee McCulloch should even still be in the team. Jig turns 37 next month and he most certainly should not still be playing as some sort of aging, make-shift central defender if (for some reason or other) the manager can't drop him. Ultimately, the manager picks the team, but despite his previous comments about Jig NOT being undroppable, I think McCall has failed to comprehend (or even properly acknowledge) just how scunnered the fans are about the subject of our captain because most of us clearly view him as neither a captain or a defender and we generally agree that he shouldn't still be getting a game for us, especially as a central defender. -

Rangers face bumper pay out to SPFL after clubs retain levy
Zappa replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
I looked up the regs a few weeks back and it was written in the SPFL's own rules that gate prices for play-off matches are purely at the descretion of the individual clubs. It seems that they may well have re-written their rules again though because it was suggested last week that the SPFL had imposed a minimum ticket price on the play-off games. -

Sorry folks, I've been snowed under this week and not very well either. I'm going to post the predictions thread for the Falkirk game and then I'll collate the results and standings for last weekend's game and this weekend's game together at the same time on Sunday evening or Monday. -
Reading that is enough to have you in stitches!

In this case I'd argue that it was relevant mate because as I said, Bougherra went AWOL, Walter was having none of it and the lad got his chance because Walter had sent Webster out on loan to Dundee Utd. Had Bougherra not went AWOL (again IIRC!) or Webster not been out on loan, then Wilson wouldn't even have gotten a sniff of 1st team action other than maybe the odd appearance from the bench if he was lucky. As it turned out though, circumstances went in the lad's favour.
-
In all fairness John, Danny Wilson was an excellent prospect for us, but he only got a game because Bougherra went AWOL that season and Walter quite rightly put his foot down.
