  1. So in squaring the Souness/Murray circle you ended up with a dodecahedron?
  2. Pretty good post there actually, full of (relevant) grey areas, dilemmas and competing ideals/ideas/realities. We need a clear vision and to go for it.
  3. I'd echo your Hateley statements in particular mate (as you know) I've heard that Gough is a different kettle of fish though, so I'd tend to take him more seriously.
  4. That is the crux of the matter IMO. If I was a Rangers (or any) player I like to think I'd be looking up at the stands and appreciating from the bottom of my heart that 2,000 people came from Scotland/UK to Spain to watch me play football for their team. There's nothing like it on earth is there?
  5. The Albion was widely believed to have been sold and leased-back IIRC, was it not? I thought the Ibrox naming rights was a bit left-field so, yeah that seemed to put it to bed and be a crowd-pleaser. Having said that, no harm done and making a committment like that can't be criticised even if it wasn't necessarily a hot topic. Strange thing is, I reckon if we got a super-duper deal, most people would accept it and still call it Ibrox. Maybe they just realise it's not going to happen so no harm in saying it.
  6. It was a total shambles tbh You're right though, he did mention that the majority shareholding had proxied in favour of Muir. Not explaining to people in plain English what's happening is poor though, when it was clear that a lot of people didn't understand. Anyway, it's only a minor point at the end of the day, I don't think it was intentional - why would people deliberately choose to look so inept in front of a couple of thousand people?
  7. Couldn't believe when he said that, a perfect GIRFUY moment.
  8. Could be Muir's fees of course....... it would makes sense for MIH to originally have wanted to allocate part of these to RFC
  9. I'll try to post in digital or binary form from now on to get your attention
  10. Yeah, I see that now. Oh well, TB deserves credit for being an all-round good egg anyway.
  11. I agree with all of that Bluedell, I think I was maybe just going into a little more detail and speculating about what would get AJ more comfortable, but saying virtually the same thing as you.
  12. I share your concern TB, but I think it's a function of where we are in the process. It is down to those who will do Due Diligence on Rangers to evaluate the viability of supporter ownership and work out to what extent additional revenue would need to be guaranteed to address the "sustainability" issue. Without this inside information, the best that can be put together is a rough estimate which will not be good enough to pass the 'sustainability test'. The issue will be whether Lloyds (exclusively) can indeed force the sale to the first bidder with the appropriately-sized cheque - or whether Murray/Rangers do indeed still have a material say in what happens. I am less clear about this today. Personally I don't see this as a set-back at all, but I do see it as proof positive that things need to move on and that business planning needs to be detailed, socialised and have input from those curently running Rangers.
  13. Incredible TB, I won't even ask how you got that done + so quickly
  14. Souness involved? "nonsense" aweebluesoandso won't be pleased.
  15. I can see both sides too. I had the (rare for me) privilage of speaking at length to a couple of very highly-regarded ex-players last week and they both said virtually the same thing; most of the current squad need a good kick up the arse because they are not doing enough on the park. Talking about tackling, facing up the play, shutting down, tracking runs etc. Hiding, even. I was actually shocked. You know how when you've never played professionally you expect some kind of professional solidarity and excuse-making from ex-players? Well there was none of it. Both were scathing and very annoyed about some of our current guys in particular. One (who didn't play under him) was also critical of Smith's natural defensiveness and the other (who did) acknowledged it and said the players sometimes felt he'd always been a bit like that when they were playing too. Fact is friends won't criticise friends in the media even if they are thinking it, but they'll say what they can if the problem's wider than a single issue. If players are not good enough, that's the club's and/or the manager's fault for buying, keeping or playing them. If they're not pulling their weight though, they deserve to be harangued, and if former players who could play the game to a high level can draw attention to it in the papers I don't have a problem with that.
  16. How does the Souness connection square with his Murray friendship?
  17. I also think it might be related to the overall sub-text that Scottish football is absolute shit. People are being told it's shit, and those that bother to go along invariably find out that it is, in fact, shit. No money, no EPL, no World Cup for us whilst the rest seem to be pulling away. Also, when I was a kid - even a teenager and young adult, going to Ibrox was exciting not just to see the players, but for the experience. The crowd itself was part of the entertainment. The sanitised experience we enjoy/endure today must surely be having an effect in a lot of peoples' minds at the levels you suggest too? I know this isn't unique to this season but when you chuck it all together it seems to be having an effect in the sense that it's one less thing to keep people there when they might be considering otherwise.
  18. Probably a bit of everything tbh and nobody can categorically say which affects crowds to what extent compared to the other. There is no doubt performances have deteriorated this season though - we can see that in CL results particularly. This is directly down to lack of investment in the team, as this was the first summer we suffered that. I agree the recession doesn't help, but the overall money situation at the club is affecting everything including performances and crowds IMHO.
  19. Last 2 SPL homes games, Kilmarnock & St. Mirren. Both down 5,000 on same match last season. Same opposition. Performances have no effect on crowds? Getting beat 2-10 on aggregate at home in the CL has no effect on crowds? You mustn't have heard about all the people who are pissed-off enough with what they get at Ibrox that they've stopped going?
  20. I agree with what you are basically getting at calscot..... but .... average crowds are going down - you can see it with your own eyes, and the CL gates this year must have been a shock to the system for everyone at Ibrox. Yes, they got the prices wrong, but never the less if they have to lower prices (which is the LAST thing they need to hear) to below what they were even last season or the season before just to fill Ibrox for CL matches there is something in the wind. Surely? If January is bad and June worse, crowds will slide dramatically IMHO. Which is why things really need to get moving.
  21. I agree, I doubt he's thin-skinned. No idea if he perceives an agenda against him or not. No idea if he was tongue-in-cheek or not. It's impossible to tell.
  22. As I posted the other day, anybody stepping out of the shadows relating to buying Rangers would inevitibly know that they will be scrutinised and their credentials verified. However, if Mr. Duffy perceives the Rangersmedia article as "mischievous" it cannot be in the bit least surprising given the headline, the sarcastic mocking opening directed at him, and the author's conclusion where he stated that "he wouldn't be investing" and was "out". Anyway, we move on and whether Duffy wants to dwell on this criticism is up to him - although I'd doubt it.
