  1. De Bruyne misses a penalty. McGinns goal for Villa after just two minutes disallowed. Too early in the game though it didn’t matter in the end. Sheffield United struggling and Wolves seem to have lost something. Jota? In the FA Cup Sunderland beaten at home by Mansfield, a team near the bottom of a league even lower than the one Sunderland are in. No great surprise to most but still a shock for folk who remember the real Sunderland, a top line club but that was in the days of Roker Park before the “Black Cats” nonsense
  2. Assuming Accies don’t score five, this is a sickener for the tims. They get a good result, nurse a bit of hope for a while before kickoff and it’s gone already. Rangers’ fans have been there often in recent years.
  3. Booo Boooooooo 1-3 Everton revert to type. Boooo
  4. BHA3-1 Burnley So’ton 2-0 Magpies Toffees 2-2 United Palace 0-2 Leeds Chelsea 3-0 Blades Hammers 4-1 Fulham Baggies 0- 3 Hotspur Leicester 2-1 Wolves City 2-2 Liverpool Gunners 2-0 Villa compo declined to forecast Leicester v Wolves. Concealing information from the bookies, I expect.
  5. Well, to be fair, is he alone in that?
  6. What exactly is a playmaker? A man who can receive the ball at a distance from goal and either by beating an opponent(s) or by releasing a pass creates a chance for another to finish? Who is that in the current team? Hagi? Aribo? John Greig could win the ball and drive forward scattering a couple of defenders then pass the ball in roughly the direction of Ralph Brand to crack into the net? Was JG a playmaker?
  7. In the old days, one of the half backs or one of the inside forwards, sometimes one of each. Baxter and McMillan. Mostly inside forwards, when I think about it. Only three half backs, Baxter, Murdoch, Frank Beattie.
  8. And half a crown - wealth.
  9. These confectionery and airport partnerships are confusing. Why not combine them and call it Aero?
  10. A princely footballer. He with the oddly named Babbington and Houseman unlocked defences at lightning speed.
  11. Five away wins. An inspired poster got them all. Unfortunately he had a couple of others which were less inspired.
  12. Taken over by Cadbury so you’re all right.
  13. That table is a pleasant sight. I look at LiveScore a lot. They show league tables in a box beside the scores. For years it’s not been nice to look at. Now Rangers are top, the default table is the reserve league (Accies in pole) You can still see the main table but you have to click and scroll.
  14. After United, Liverpool and Arsenal, who in England would sell more shirts than Newcastle? Chelsea maybe?
  15. Good team on the park and that’s a formidable bench. They could all have been in the first selection and caused neither surprise nor anxiety.
  16. Was that the official celtic line? I thought it was just their fellow-travellers, running-dogs, hangers-on and diocesan letters.
  17. They’ll deploy the club/owner defence to that one.
  18. Wolves 0-1 Palace Blades 1-2 City Burnley 0-2 Chelsea Liverpool 2-3 Hammers Villa 1-2 So’ton Magpies 2-2 Toffees United 1-2 Gunners ‘Spurs 3-1 BHA compo’s crystal ball couldn’t see as far as Monday but my laser enhanced predictorsphere says: Fulham 2-0 Baggies Leeds 1–2 Leicester.
  19. The collar can’t decide if it’s Jim Baxter or Tiger Shaw.
  20. You’ve jinxed it now, alex.
  21. The treachery of predictive text, alex. Many’s a time one of my literary gems has been torpedoed by the little bugger in the ipad.
  22. A vault face Stewart may well have but it’s safe to say the vault is pretty empty. Fall out the predictive text, 26th.
  23. The table shows a huge gap between 4th and 5th places.
  24. Toffees unwrapped.
  25. Why, yes. I remember it well. Seems like the other day. Same date 1964 LCF Jim Forrest 2, celtic 1.
