  1. Where have you been, Gribz? Compo and I have been running this on our own. Liverpool v City? Impossible to predict. These star matches are often anti climactic but I don’t think this one will disappoint. Fulham v Gunners will tell if Arsenal are on there way or not. The Saturday card is underwhelming apart from an interest in Wolves and of course the Mancs v Mags relegation battle. The last time I was in Liverpool at the same time as City visited Anfield, both in the old FL Division 2, I had to go to my big brother’s wedding to an Evertonian.
  2. Perhaps former Villa boss and Old Trafford defence ace Steve Bruce could step up and steady the ship. See, I can write journo rubbish no bother.
  3. Funny you should say that, Compo. Just after the game I was thinking the same. 80% the wee PM, 20% Ralphie Brand. What a player.
  4. Interesting match. Rapid started better but Rangers got into it more as the first half went on. Second half Rangers continued to improve but Rapid fell away a bit. 3-1 a fair reflection of the play. Some good football and some elementary mistakes from both sides. Rapid tried to win. I wonder if Hearts will. It’s a better spectacle when both teams have a go. Makes it easier for one of them to win but not a pragmatic approach if you’re an SPL manager.
  5. Bruce got his jotters today. Job opportunity for Rogers? I’m sure he’d relish the challenge of a bigger club.
  6. Jim McInally is the boss at Peterheid. Unlikely to leave for a smaller club.
  7. ?Cry in a minute They’re gonna cry in a minute?
  8. Why the fuss? This can be easily solved. There should be only one semi final. Rangers v Aberdeen, celtic and Hearts. 11 v 33 subject to Jack and Morelos being sent off. The game to be played at the Brendanbeu because Hampden is too much like a second home for Rangers. There will be no need for a final tie. The team excluding Aberdeen or Hearts that scores the most goals against Rangers will be awarded the Cup, even if Rangers win. Quite simple really.
  9. Fairly bland fixture list this weekend. Until you get to the evening game, Chelsea v Liverpool. Wednesday v Leeds in the Championship looks good and if you like alphabet football, PNE v WBA.
  10. The PO in the pre-match lineup looked as if he wanted to join the players at the breakaway. One or two bluenoses in the RAF Lossie pipe band by the applause for Walter.
  11. Killie fans were singing a bad tune just before the winner. That’s Killie forfeited three points and given to celtic, sure it is. And Rangers forfeited a point because they started it.
  12. Well done, the Wolves. Compo, you’ll be too young to remember the radio commentary when their wingers Hancock and Mullen destroyed Honved and Spartak in the days when those two teams wereEurope’s best?

I’d forgotten him, Compo. Did he have a good first five mnutes but rapidly downhill thereafter? Anyway, don’t bother me with trivia. I’m still trying to make up my mind about Sammy Baird.
  14. The PF can have another go on this one but I expect he won’t bother.
  15. I left for ten minutes and missed three goals.
  16. Just had a look at it. Not good.
  17. British Racing, Australian baggy and South African Rugby are all acceptable greens. It’s the emerald stuff that’s disconcerting.
  18. The word “prominent” is a heavy clue, is it not?
  19. Imagine the BBC coming with a grovellng apology tomorrow. Will we all be tuning in? What’s to hear? Stewart, Thomson, Preston, Bonner, Macdonald, Dodds, Ferguson, english and mclaughlin? Bias aside, has anyone heard any one of that crew saying anything at all insightful or even plain knowledgeable? Back in the day Willie Miller used to say one or two things about defending technique in a grumpy and parochial manner but nonetheless worth hearing. But Dodds? “Rangers are forcing Dunfermline into unforced errors”. Can’t say I’m missing analysis like that.
  20. John Wark, George Burley in the same team?
  21. Willian is a cracking player. Better than Sane? Similar types. Willian seems to concentrate better but when Sane comes down from his cloud defenders can’t get near him.
