  1. Why did Saints play for time? They should have gone for it. Despite their capability to play nice football ourteam has no self belief. Two reasons: the defence is prone to lunatic error and our strikers could not knock the skin off a rice pudding.
  2. Plenty of good football, some chances but only one taken and Kiernan ruins it. Our defender on Mclean should have run with him. Might have put him off controlling the break of the ball. Entirely Kiernan's fault, though. I'd have given a penalty against him five minutes later.
  3. Good point BH. Wolves had 28,000 and Derby 30,000. These clubs play in cities half the size of Edinburgh and slightly larger than Aberdeen but could you imagine Hearts, Hibs or Dons getting crowds that size, except against Rangers, even if the grounds were big enough? The old stadium records are interesting. Pittodrie, Dens, Tynecastle 40,000 and Easter Road 60,000. I've been at Easter Road with 40,000 +. Where did they put the other 20,000 on record day. Gates closed at 12.00 for a 2pm kick-off. Why can Scotsmen not turn out to support their local team? Fair enough the hypnotic magic of Rangers snares many of us but there should still be enough left over. Those who absent themselves are the opposite of glory hunters. Despair dodgers I would call them.

    BJK today

So, the movers and shakers of this world will say to themselves "there's guys at the fitba singing something, best look into it, eh?" Ah, well.
  6. Hard to specify "world class". Like a camel, hard to describe but you know one when you see one. In some games Ozil doesn't look effective so you can leave him with one marker. But a defence could never take their eyes off Bergkamp or relax double marking.
  7. £2M? Hmmmm. How key is he? To get the best out of him Fulham might have to take Hill as well.
  8. "What is your definition of world-class?" Bergkamp. Ozil needs a supporting caste. DB did it on his own if required.

    BJK today

There are intelligent men here defending BJK. That surprises me. The chant itself is infantile self-hypnosis delivered not as a complaint but as a partisan jibe either triumphant in victory or defiant in defeat. It will not instruct cfc in the error of their ways. It will not compel remorse in their odious following. It will not prompt Authority to investigate. Don't do it at the match. Don't defend it. Get some articulate folk who know the full story to write to every Scottish MP, every MSP, every newspaper and every other news medium. The stoniest of stony ground, I know, but perhaps some of the MPs with children might take heed. Keep football and Rangers out of it because it's not about football and it's not about Rangers. It's much more important than that. It's about conniving to obscure one of the worst of crimes. You're the parent or an aunt or an uncle of a victim. How would you feel about thousands of blokes jumping up and down roaring BJK and gesticulating at thousands of others screaming republican tripe in return? Heartened by the zeal for justice? Comforted by the empathy? Or disgusted that, by association, the victim's torment is used in the exchange of tribal abuse? Think about it.
  10. Four results correct and two correct scores with three games to come.
  11. Watford and Palace 1 - 1. That's one down and nine to go. Much as I favour the Baggies I can't see them beating Arsenal. On the evidence of the last two games, Albion's central defence is slow. Sanchez will make the most of that.

    BJK today

dB, I've said before, your English is better than mine but in this instance I think you're wrong. There should be an element of humour in banter often good natured but not necessarily so. There is no humour whatsoever in the BJK nonsense.
  13. Are we at a level where we only raise our game for big matches?
  14. What we have to learn is to work constantly to strengthen our position. Tims did it for years and now they reap rich rewards. They can do what they like. Putting in a word for Aberdeen in this situation does us no harm. As has been pointed out we could be in their position at some time in the future and we would have established a precedent. I'm all for fighting battles where you can crush the opposition at little cost to yourself but never stop shoring up your defences.
  15. That article is a journalistic breach of the peace, stirring up hatred against Sinclair among our more volatile, less perceptive supporters and inviting celtic supporters to rally behind their man. Sinclair, I reckon, is blameless. DR Hack: "Worried about the hate mob, Scott?" SS: "Not really." DRH: "Looking forward to the game?" SS: "Yeah, sure."
  16. At SPL level a rummle-them-up guy is essential to create a bit of space and time for the poets and artists. Waghorn is strong, no doubt, but Garner is more raw boned and runs unexpected angles. He's worth his ticket.
  17. I voted many times in each round but let's face it, the competition was rubbish. No Barce, Real, Liverpool or United any of which would have overwhelmed even Timothy Juan Guy and his special voting program.
  18. If I remember correctly the Academy used to be called Queens Park.
  19. Garner seems to be a diminutive Kichenbrand, a sort of mini rhino. Perhaps Jimmy Millar is a better comparison. Four inches shorter than Billy McNeil but could out-jump him no bother from a standing start or running. Garner will need a Ralphie Brand. I don't think I see one anywhere.
