Report of first meeting of Rangers CIC Working Group
SteveC replied to BrahimHemdani's topic in Rangers Chat
yes, but at my age "coop" was nice to see as it reminds one of The Moody Blue! good luck with all this - it is exciing. it will be harder for us than anyone else as we have the schum and their mhedia lapdogs ever ready to attack and destabilise. -
Surely only in Scotland would the taxpayer be forced to pay for schools (bigot factories) that "entertain" people who wanted to blow them to pieces? The website for that lot apparently contains IRA promotional stuff
-
No, not at all because Al C didn't eff about when he wanted something - he just took it. (only joking, King fans, only joking - he is our best hope, I know)

you probably thought you were protesting against apartheid

Tomorrow's Record - King predicts financial meltdown again?
SteveC replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
lifted from FF: EVERYONE loves a pay day. And few more so than some of the characters who have heaved bulging pockets out of the Ibrox front doors in recent times. But in less than a fortnight, on February 27 to be exact, Rangers will face a very different kind of pay day. And this one may well define the shape of things to come in the sort to medium term, both for this club and its current custodians. As is routinely the case the last Thursday of every month is the day wages are deposited into the accounts of this club’s employees. But that’s where the normality ends and the latest twist in this never-ending Rangers saga might finally begin to take shape. Quite simply this club is either about to run completely out of cash before it has time to rake in new season-ticket money. Or it is not. In other words the mysterious Rangers identity crisis is about to reach an end. Either this is the club which is so skint it has no choice but to ask its players to accept wage cuts. Or it is the club which is so flush it can afford to offer the players lunch and afternoon naps at Carnoustie ahead of a league game at Forfar. One thing is for sure, it cannot continue to be both for much longer. Dave King, the perennial would-be saviour, has done his sums and believes Rangers are about to collapse financially for the second time in little more than two years. In fact, even as recently as Friday, on the single most ignominious anniversary in the 142-year narrative of Rangers Football Club, King was attempting to engage with the board but his efforts to provide a solution to the problems were rebuffed. In other words this is becoming a stand-off which will ultimately be determined by the true state of the club’s bank balance. If King is correct, Rangers will be in very serious trouble indeed, if not after settling this month’s wages, then almost certainly before the next lot are due at the end of March. If he is wrong, the board will have enough breathing room at least to get to the end of Graham Wallace’s 120-day review. So far the CEO has had his head stuck under the bonnet for half that time which may explain why he has disappeared from view. Wallace’s Invisible Man act cannot continue indefinitely. With so much conjecture and speculation about the state of his business he must pipe up soon and find a voice if he is to provide this club with the leadership it requires. If he would rather keep a low profile he’s in the wrong job. But again Wallace’s actions are likely to be determined by the state of the club’s accounts. If they are as bad as King has calculated then Wallace will not be able to keep shtum for much longer. Daily RecordDave KingDave King One way or the other a clearer picture of its financial health is about to emerge after many weeks and months of confusion and clandestine operations behind the scenes. According to back of the fag packet accountancy a sum of around £500k will be needed just to pay the first-team wage bill. But that’s far from all because, remember, this is a football club like no other. This is a football club which, going by its most recent audited numbers, lavishes even’more money on its executives and non-football staff than it ploughs into the dressing room. So let’s be conservative, assume some good housekeeping has been carried out in the interim period, and settle for £1million. Either those in charge of Rangers can afford to stump it up without King’s assistance or they can’t. If they can’t what other options are open to them’ The answer is not many. If there is enough left in the vault to keep the lights on until the season-ticket money arrives, Rangers may be able to stumble forward into the summer, hoping supporters who have refinanced this club every year since Craig Whyte’s takeover are prepared to bail it out for a fourth time in huge numbers. Which is in itself far from certain. If, however, the money really is all but gone in the next few weeks then Wallace will have to find some from elsewhere. And if not from King, who else is there’ It’s understood that to date, and despite his very best efforts, Wallace has failed to secure any external financing. Which should come as no great surprise. Rangers, having burned through £22m of IPO investments in little more than a year, are a seriously bad risk. But if Wallace can’t raise money in London then there may be one last alternative. It begins with the letter A and ends in II. On those rare occasions when Wallace has raised his head he has stated categorically that a second administration will not happen on his watch. If he is true to his word, Rangers fans need not worry. Trouble is they’ve heard it all before. And look how that turned out.- 115 replies

Tomorrow's Record - King predicts financial meltdown again?
SteveC replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat

Tomorrow's Record - King predicts financial meltdown again?
SteveC replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
It may just be a putting together of the last interviews with King and Wallace and using the next pay day to rerun King's warning. It fits with the previous April prediction plus added unexpected bills and with the raising of players' wages cuts. The claims are not mutually exclusive though. We could run out of money but not go into admin. A high interest loan from a pal of the spivs or the gangsters till season ticket time.- 115 replies

Hugh Keevins: Celtic and Rangers are conning fans......
SteveC replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
If the club or us did not take the Ramsden seriously we would be met with a hurricane of complaints re "unfounded arrogance" etc -
I think the new one may surprise you, as our numerical friend notes above, even FF is responding favourably in the majority - despite a concerted campaign by a cadre to rubbish it. The more they are doing so, the more people are speaking up for it and that's only the posts you can see. If that is the response on a forum pre-set against the scheme it bodes well for areas it is pitched in that start off with open minds.
-
I think that was on an old Rangers record - from the 60s. I may be wrong as my memory is not to be trusted but I think so. I've certainly heard it before - though not for almost 50 years. It would make sense if it came from a record because if fans had made it up the word "place" would be replaced by something more erm, colourful, for "Parkhead".

i'm very hopeful, I also have a "last chance saloon" feeling of desperation mixed in with that. i+It's got to work though as yet again I didn't win the EuroMillions
-
Yes, but I was only following the article quoted - how much Ally would have to spend if he were to replicate the level of team he was referring to. It'd cost more because not all the buys would settle or succeed. I'm not saying it is the correct way to go, just following the thought process laid out.

In this market, really? it's hard get one good British player for 6-10million far less 6! Average players go for 8 figures nowadays. Also we will not have 6 graduates that make it through to regular top division games - we'll be lucky if we get three . We won't get 6 foreign imports that arrive and do well unless we spend a fortune on about 20 of them (think of all the foreigners we've had over the years that have failed totally at Ibrox). We are talking about getting back into Europe - 30million wouldn't come close to getting us through the qualifiers. IF, and that's only IF, you follow what was being said in the interview about replacing what we have lost by going out and spending. The other route of taking ur years in the wilderness to build from the ground up would have been an alternative - I'm not sure there is time now.

I am not disagreing with what he says per se - but I do disagree with the amount, it'd need a lot more than that. You can bet that the schum will start spending when we get back.

Steady on 3909 04, it was only made earlier this hour, this isn't a busy enough place to get torrents in 40 minutes

Great to read. I was hesitant about posting my worry. As I said on a later post, I am full of praise and gratitude to those putting the time and effort in. I am pinning a lot of hopes on this new venture and I wanted to air my concern without appearing an ungrateful b@st@rd.

There is a major flaw in his thinking here. Apart from the fact that rebuilding that late means it will take seasons to be ready, I mean. In addition, you don't just spend 30 million to replace 30 millions worth - what about all the dud buys, or the foreign player s who don't settle or those who find the R rangers shirt "too heavy"? How many of his buys would actually make it to long term first team challenging for the title quality? Good to see the scouting (lack of) being stressed, though. http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/spfl-lower-divisions/mccoist-rangers-may-need-30m-to-return-to-top-1-3307214 ALLY McCoist believes Rangers may need to spend as much as £30 million on strengthening their squad if they hope to mount a serious challenge for the Premiership title in two years’ time. Speaking on the second *anniversary of the Ibrox club *entering administration, the manager expressed his hope Rangers are finally emerging from the darkest and most turbulent period in their history. With his team’s projected return to the top flight of Scottish football for the 2015-16 season on schedule as they close in on the League 1 title, McCoist insists significant funding will be required to restore them to pre-administration standards on the pitch. “Whether we are contenders again in two years will depend on a number of things,” said McCoist. “One of them will be investment in the team, along with stability at boardroom level which is vitally important. “If we get that, then I’d be very hopeful we’d be back in the top league and have a better chance of bringing in the quality of player to enable us to compete at the top of that league “It’s difficult to put a figure on how much investment we need. But if you lose in the region of £30m worth of players as we did because of administration – players like Nikica Jelavic, Steven Davis, Allan McGregor, Steven Whittaker and all those boys – then I would think that standard of player needs to get replaced. “I’m not saying £30m is the exact figure, but that’s roughly what we’ve lost. Some will argue it might be more than that, some might say a little bit less. “But my point is that you can’t lose that, not replace it and then expect to compete at the top level.” McCoist’s playing budget will be determined by recently appointed chief executive, Graham Wallace who is half-way through his 120-day *review of Rangers’ business *operations and cost structure. Among McCoist’s priorities is the reinstatement of a scouting network at the club which has been completely dismantled over the past two years. “Graham and I speak a lot and we will be having another meeting today at Ibrox,” added McCoist. “He hasn’t indicated to me where he is with it at the moment, but I don’t have any doubt once he’s done his *review we will sit down and look *longer term, in terms of *players for next season, in terms of budget for next season, in terms of our scouting, in terms of *Murray Park and development of *football. “There is a lot of work to be done and a lot of things to be discussed which I know he’s looking forward to and I certainly am as well. I haven’t mentioned a figure to him yet – you’ve dragged that out of me! But it will have to be mentioned at some point, absolutely. “I’ve been invited to board meetings, which I look forward to, to discuss the first team, the under-20s and the youth system. It will all be brought up, as will the scouting which needs to be addressed immediately. “Scouting is an immediate concern, particularly now as we are heavily into the rebuilding process for the club – short, middle and long-term. If we’ve not got a scouting department, which we don’t have, then that is plainly far from ideal. “It’s absolutely staggering that we don’t have a scouting *department. That’s through no fault of Graham Wallace or *anyone on the current board – but it is our problem which needs addressed.” With short-term funding an obvious concern for Rangers, rumours have persisted regarding the possibility of another insolvency event, but McCoist remains comfortable with the assurances to the contrary he has received from Wallace. “He has categorically told me that will not be the case,” said McCoist. “He told me once and if that changed he would have told me otherwise. He told me that’s not the case and that’s good enough for me and I’d fully expect in the relationship I have with him, if the goalposts had moved in that direction he’d have told me.”

Yes, that's what I was hinting at elsewhere but trying not to be unkind to people putting their energies into this new scheme for which I'd rather express praise and gratitude. Old faces = baggage, mistrust, divisions. I worry this will derail the good train "save Rangers" before it even leaves the station. Crawford01, you are probably correct re Share schemes, i think I'd need someone like Walter Smith to persuade me to put in to yet another one, or less sentimentally, some reasoned financial plan, future. The RFF worries me a bit because I told my mum to contribute to that too and I've never been able to tell her what her money went toward. I did too of course but you feel guilty when its someone else that you've told to donate to.

It's just not going to happen- even if there was full buy-in to getting rid of the add-ons, which there isn't, alcohol would change the attitude of many, drunk on that and the feeling of being in a crowd. The comment above about hairs standing up is correct, this was our anthem of anthems for stirring us and frightening the opponents (on and off the pitch), but I think we have lost it and if it returns, in any form, we'll get hammered for it. We cannot afford to lose money on it, and there'll come a time when we cannot afford to lose points because of our singing. When we get back to the top and are challenging, I fully expect this to become a weapon against us. Every institution is being run by them, they will do everything to stop us as the last few years have proved. Incidentally I've been going to games since 1965/6 and that's the first time I've seen the original lyrics! They aren't very good, "down to our knees" - meh!

I remember that. it kept erupting at Sheffield too. It sure sounded great and it was a huge struggle not to join in.

Nothing, and there have been other versions proposed - some very good - that are not illegal. But, you are not telling me that a crowd of pissed up bears on a long trip away are going to remember to sing the new words though, surely? After years of singing the banned version, it would be damn hard to remember on a trip to, say, Munich to remember to sing the new words. Or any time with the sickening hoop hordes in sight.
-
That would only happen were everyone to vote for it though, surely? Is it not just that the word "could" is applicable to almost anything until a constitution is agreed?
-
As sergeant Wilson used to say "do you think that's wise, sir?" Not querying your capabilities but is this not likely to be controversial to some/many, or to reopen scarcely closed wounds? If I am out of line I apologize, I know the history is a complex one and I was not there but just going by recent events on this forum it would seem potentially divisive. Then again I may be misunderstanding those recent spats

50p a day, or a pint or so a week...for Rangers? seems reasonable

A group of Rangers fans have agreed to form a working party as they step up efforts to buy the club on behalf of the Ibrox support. Supporters Direct Scotland (SDS) hosted a behind-closed-doors meeting with around 60 influential supporters on Friday morning. The three-hour presentation explained how the Light Blues faithful could set up a similar scheme to the one Hearts fans are currently using to rescue their club from administration. SDS is now set to meet again with its invited guests early next week as it looks to formalise its arrangements. Head of SDS Paul Goodwin said: "We were happy to do the presentation today and are delighted with the reaction we got. The meeting was successful and at the end of it when we asked people to put their hand up if they wanted to hear more about more about community ownership, the response was unanimous. "We are launching our Community Ownership week next week but we'll be taking time out of that to get together again with the Rangers fans so we can look at taking this forward." Friday marked the second anniversary of Rangers' blackest day when they were put into administration but the off-field sagas at Ibrox have carried on relentlessly. The club was floated on the stock market in December 2012 but the original 70p share price has tumbled to just 26.25p. Losses of more £14.4million for the 13 months to June were then announced in October, while chief executive Graham Wallace was defeated in his attempts to impose a 15 per cent pay cut on Ally McCoist's first-team squad last month. Rangers blogger Andy McKellar - one of the fans invited to hear the SDS presentation - believes fan ownership is the only way to protect the club from more turmoil. The SDS blueprint is based around setting up a Community Interest Company which will then collect monthly contributions from fans, with the cash then used to buy shares.. McKellar told Press Association Sport: "David Murray, Craig Whyte and Charles Green - those are the three names which show you fan ownership is the way forward. "Rangers are still in financial trouble because the way these three acted and the way the people in charge now have run it. If that doesn't convince Rangers fans to take action then I don't know what will. "The fans have had no say in all that has happened to Rangers but if we could get enough shares to take control that would allow us to protect the club in future. "It was a positive meeting. By the end of it, everyone there was in support of taking the project forward. "There wasn't much detail given out, more a broad explanation of what the plan is but there was lots of questions and answers about how it all works so everyone has a better idea of what it will take to get this thing started. "Now the guys there can look to setting up the working party that will flesh the idea out but there is still a lot of work to do." The SDS meeting comes just two days after the Rangers Supporters Trust announced it had extended its stake in the club to over half-a-million shares using its own scheme, BuyRangers. Boss McCoist praised the efforts of both groups, saying: "Greater fan involvement should be encouraged, absolutely. And particularly because of the way our fans have supported us over the last 24 months. "It's fantastic that their voice is getting stronger and it's a great thing the more they get heard."
