I could he wrong, and happy for some one to prove me wrong, but I think Tavs number without penalties would still be on the "High end" for defenders, both domestically and in Europe (a EL level).

It will include penalties. It is conceivable that Tav could become our all time European scorer by overtaking Alfie. Currently he is 2 behind Ally McCoist. Let that sink in.

That's undeniable but the failure to win the league isn't down to just Tav. In fact, given Tavs 'numbers' it could be argued we could have been further away without him.

The only "heavy" league defeat was 1-3 at home to Aberdeen. However, losing a couple 1-0 has cost us. Until yesterday, if we conceded we would lose!

The numbers quoted are just SPFL goals. His assists will be similar. Mentioning Europe, he has a phenomenal record in Europe as well (check the run to Seville). It's not a coincidence that every manager he has played under has him as first pick and captain. But what do they know......

Historically, all successful teams were built from the back and a strong spine. Even the most attacking teams require a strong defence. Fans probably like attacking play / goals and would prefer to win 5-4 than 1-0. For us currently, I think we need to be hard to beat which means defence is more important. However, once our injuries clear up (if that ever happens) we'll have good options and should score plenty of goals.

Lawrence Shankland has scored 29 goals and had 5 assists (all competitions) since signing for Hearts in 2022. 25 of those were last season - 24 League goals (37 games) and 1 Europa League goal (2 games). He has scored 3 league goals (10 games) and 1 League Cup goal (2 games) this season. Other than last season and 1 season at Ayr and DUFC (both in the Championship) he hass struggled to get into double figures.

Another footnote from today's game; big shout out to the UBs and Broomie Collective today. Whilst everyone around them were booing, shouting obscenities at our players, leaving early, they stayed behind the team and continually sang and encouraged the players / team. If only everyone else would do the same.
