Match Thread [FT] Rangers 2 (Tavernier 6pen; Dessers 15) - 1 Servette

Think there was a lot of positives from tonight's performance. We should have won by a few more goals. Not taking anything for granted but think we'll have enough to win the return leg. -

Decent enough 1st half with some good football played. Didn't see their penalty so can't comment. Borna, Cantwell and Raskin our best players. Souttar does like a surge forward with the ball as well! Win the 2nd half and we'll be in a good position. -

Borna got into advanced areas often today but we decided to cut inside rather than give the ball to him in wide area. Tav did seem to be narrow and we had no one advanced of him wide right. Sima was our best player making runs in behind and played one ball along the 6 yard line but there was no Rangers player to take advantage. -

Our best player from last season wasn't exactly showing the same form in pre-season and was awful when he was introduced today (he wasn't alone in that respect). As for losing 2 domestic cups, it was Sakala's inability to score an open goal in both games that ultimately cost us. -

But it has. 9 new players this window and 2 in January. New keeper, the defence needs attention and Lundstram was hardly the worst player on the pitch today. -

And you expect that after 1 game? -

Changed an entire team. A team that we all wanted ripped apart. Now it's been ripped apart and we've lost 1 game, we want it ripped apart again. -

But there are fans writing off players and the manager. SBG has admitted he wants the manager sacked. That's clearing writing him off. Fans are saying they don't want to see certain players (Tav, Borna, Lundstrum) play for Rangers again. That's clearing writing them off. There are fans saying Sima is hopeless, that Dessers is as fat and uninterested as Morelos, that's clearing writing them off Questions should be asked about the performance, but claiming players and manager should be sacked is way over the top. -

Of course it's possible. You stated WS 2nd spell as boring. Yet we often won by 5, 6 and 7 during this time but also knew how to win 1-0. What WS did at the beginning of his 2nd spell was to sign 2 centre-halves who could defend, then built a team around them. The rest as they say is history. Whilst football has changed, the concept has remained the same. WS knew how to get the best out of players (especially those with limited ability) and knew how to mould a team. However, that's why there aren't many Walter Smith's around. He was a top notch manager. -

Nope, writing nothing off - unlike others. -

Utter mental thought process. Name we one successful club who've built their success by sacking managers every 6 - 12 months? -

See there is the problem right there. Comparing ourselves with THEM. I don't care if they play like 1970's Brazil as long as we are winning. I only care about Rangers winning and I don't care how we win (5-0 or 1-0 you only get 3 points). -

So we write of the entire season? We write of the manager and players? Just had Celtic the treble and not bother with the remainder of the season? -

It might bore you, it might have me sitting at the edge of my seat. I think all we all want is a winning team (no matter the style). That will never happen of we continually change the manager every 6 months -

What's confusing? Some of the players we have gotten on board have previously gone for huge fees, fees we wouldn't have been able to pay. However, they have since lost their way (for what ever reason) and we've managed to get their services. We must hope that they can rediscover the form that convinced clubs to splash out on them. -

But he was appointed. I said at the time it was a lazy appointment and stand by that. However, I understand why he was appointed and we must give Beale time with his own signings. Going by the terms and labels thrown around on social media by Rangets fans, he inherited a squad of serial lossers, shitbags etc . He's now started to replace those "serial lossers" and "shitbags" with his players but it was never going to change overnight. -

He did, but he wasn't alone. Souttar and Goldson looked nervy and Souttar was sleeping at their goal. We tend to try and apportion blame to individuals and look for someone to target. Today was a collective failure. It happens in football and we have no right to win any game of football, that has to be earned. Making so many changes, and these are changed we all "demanded" happen, we were always leaving ourselves open to an uncertain start. Calling for players and managers heads after 1 game is just mental. -

But with the budget we have, that's the type of players we have to take punts on. We don't have the finance to attract proven players, they'll attract fees and wages way above our means. Instead of "judging" them on a couple of friendlies and 1 league game, maybe give them time to settle in. -

It didn't take long for it to be Tavs fault. All we need now is for someone to blame Barasic and we'll have a full house. It was a collective failure this evening. -
