I made that walk down the stairs many times as a young boy, as I am sure the older posters will have done, and it was horrendous. As the man in the film said my father also told me to keep my arms crossed in front of my chest to give me some breathing room. There was always constant shouting trying to get people to stop at the top to release some of the pressure. Thankfully for me the disaster game was my first ever OF game and I was only allowed to go with my older nephew and use my uncles season ticket for the main stand. I had no idea what had happened until I arrived home. As I always normally went for the Ferry stairway 13 was my normal exit. One of my friends was caught up in it but he, as the man in the film, only lost his shoe. He did tell me that he knew he was walking over bodies but there was nothing you could do but try and stay on your own feet. All the smaller grounds was less of a problem as they were nowhere as steep and far fewer stairs as Ibrox was. In fact I think most people just walked down the embankment at Love Street IIRR.

Michael van Praag was a stick out who should have won that vote by a country mile. He was one of the leading figures who spoke up regularly against FIFA corruption and attacked Sepp Blatter on numerous occasions. He was also an excellent administrator and really just made for that job. You have to wonder where a pretty unknown Slovenian all of a sudden got so much support to win the vote.

Agree with you but I am afraid I find it a very poor Documentary. The real truths are not told why that stairway was accepted when it was a nightmare at every game. Who cares where Alex Ferguson was on that day? It is good to hear from the players point of view how they witnessed it but for me the story should be about the supporters and how they witnessed it.

Just been to their Website and it would seem he is not there anymore. (Head of Youth, Steven Ferguson)

Not really I was just trying to give a bit of insight into who runs their academy and his story. To be honest I was pretty pissed off with him as I would have given my left ear to get the chance he got. He just seemed to throw it all away. Jealousy? You bet.

I remember that well. I think it was the first time we beat the tims for a while as well.

I was brought up with Jim Kelly the head their Academy. We both attended Kelvinhaugh primary school and were best friends until about 13 or 14. We won the BB Steadfast football tournament(UK 5 a side Tournament) with the 227 BB Yorkhill. We actually recently had e-mail contact. Jim was an excellent left winger and I have never seen anyone who could hit a ball as hard as him and I am including Ronald Koeman in that. Jim played for Scotland at all age groups and could have picked any club he wanted as a schoolboy including Rangers, celtic ManU Liverpool etc. There was a newspaper article about him at that time. He chose to join Partick Thistle where Bertie Auld his uncle (IIRC) was manager. Unfortunately after a fall-out with Bertie Jim stopped playing football. Billy McNeil invited Jim up to Aberdeen to train with Aberdeen with the thought of offering him a contract. Jim turned the offer down and never played professionally again. I believe he joined the Police at that time.obviously he has gotten back into football in Youth training and has made the head of their academy, Jim must go down as one of the biggest wastes of football talent in Scotland. What a pity we never got to see him in the big time.

Rangers Want This In-Form Championship Midfielder – Why He’s Exactly What They Need Rangers’ big ambitions for this season faced a reality check with a massive 5-1 defeat at the hands of their biggest rivals Celtic in the first Old Firm Derby of the season. Many considered that the Gers could challenge Celtic’s monopoly in Scottish football after the signings Warburton made this summer but the most successful club in Scotland failed to start the season on a good note. Two wins, two draws and one huge defeat, things could improve big time at Ibrox and Warburton will certainly try to use the coming winter transfer window to bolster his squad. Even though January is far away, Rangers are already looking at potential candidates who can help them improve as a unit and their search for that took them to England as per reports. The Irish Sun reports that Rangers are locked in a four-horse race for Barnsley midfielder Conor Hourihane along with their rivals Celtic and Championship sides Aston Villa and Wigan Athletic. Rangers do have a plethora of options in the middle of the park with players like Niko Kranjcar, Joe Barton, Jordan Rossiter, Andy Halliday, Jason Holt, Josh Windass and Matt Crooks but both Barton and Kranjcar are in their thirties right now. So far this season, Rangers have missed that extra bit of spark in midfield despite having so many options and Hourihane can easily provide them with that. WALSALL, ENGLAND - MAY 19: Conor Hourihane of Barnsley celebrates after winning the Sky Bet League One play off, second leg match between Walsall and Barnsley at Bescot Stadium on May 19, 2016 in Walsall, England. (Photo by Clive Mason/Getty Images) WALSALL, ENGLAND – MAY 19: Conor Hourihane of Barnsley celebrates after winning the Sky Bet League One play off, second leg match between Walsall and Barnsley at Bescot Stadium on May 19, 2016 in Walsall, England. (Photo by Clive Mason/Getty Images) Hourihane was named Championship player of the month for August and has been in stunning form for Barnsley scoring twice and setting up five in six Championship games. He was a key part of the Barnsley team that achieved promotion from League one last season and since then, it has been a remarkable run for the Super Reds as they sit third on the table with 12 points from six games. A central midfielder blessed with an incredible work rate, Hourihane can bring a wealth of quality to Rangers’ midfield. Capped seven times for the Republic of Ireland, the 25-year-old is a creative playmaker. He has made 2.2 key passes this season and completed an average of 52 passes every game with an accuracy of 80.2%. The 25-year-old has brilliant defensive work rate as well which is well-reflected from his 4 tackles, 3.7 interceptions and 2.3 clearances every game. A brilliant free-kick taker, the 25-year-old is a threat both with his direct and indirect free kicks. The Irishman is a quality midfielder and Rangers must do everything in their power to bring him to Ibrox. He isn’t just another player past his peak, something that the club should look at while signing players in the next transfer window.

Rangers boss Mark Warburton makes Old Firm admission: Celtic drubbing may be my fault MARK WARBURTON has admitted he may be to blame for Rangers’ collapse at Parkhead last weekend. By Scott Burns PUBLISHED: 00:02, Wed, Sep 14, 2016 | UPDATED: 00:09, Wed, Sep 14, 2016 The Ibrox boss has sifted through the wreckage of the 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Celtic. And the Gers boss believes his players were confused by his adapted game plan. He explained: “We have to look at it, and you have to self-analyse and be self-critical, and you have to react to Saturday but the real danger is that you over-react. There is a fine balance there. “We were aware of being split as a unit and we didn’t press the game on the front foot as we normally do. “We didn’t show the high-pressing part of our game and, again, that could be a mixed message. “If it is, that’s my fault, nobody else’s fault. But the point was we wanted to try to stop balls being fed in and also press up, and I think we were maybe caught between the two for periods on Saturday. “Did we test their goalkeeper enough? No, but we got in some good areas to hurt him. “But you can’t afford to make individual errors and that comes down to the whole team taking collective responsibility for that.”

Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to complain about a statement in an article printed on the 13 of September 2016 that was about Hansa Rostock supporters displaying a banner with a drawing or Photo of Osama bin Laden. In that article your Journalist stated “In the week where Celtic and Rangers fans came under attack for offensive banners” At no time during the Celtic v Rangers match of 10- 9-2016 or this week as was printed have Rangers supporters been accused or shown to have had Offensive banners. I would hope you will retract this misinformation otherwise I will be taking my complaint to the Independent Press Standards Organisation. I would expect in the interest of journalistic accuracy you will be happy to retract the statement. Yours sincerely Pete This is where we could have scored if it was not for the toilet incident. If they do retract it that will be mentioned. -
Welcome mate I hope you stay on and I agree we should be spreading this round. The Celtic support have shot themselves in the foot with this one. Even the media have realised they can't keep quiet on this one. It is just unfortunate that toilet was wrecked otherwise the spotlight would have been totally on them..

I am not saying it is not possible as even Adolf Hitler got a a land behind him. Politics is mostly telling people what they want to hear. Even Labour only got into power after crossing into a more central right position. As soon as you name a party Unionist that comes over as an extreme right party. Scotland is in principle a centre left country so I personally doubt that any unionist party would be much more than a small party. The SNP is a different story as that plays on the fact that people from all parties want to see a free Scotland. From 18-20 I was a Labour voter. After that I was always an SNP supporter because I wanted a Free Scotland with the idea that after home rule I would go back to a Scottish Labour party. I doubt I would ever vote for an extreme right\ right party. Personally I think you would have a better chance with a No Sectarianism Party you would get people from all sides. -

Why are they calling us honey? HUN Definition / HUN Means The definition of HUN is "Honey" The other definition is Atilla the Hun a nomadic group from the 4 century and here's us thinking we were from 1872. New club? We are older than we thought according to them. -

As soon as you mention unionist people think extreme right wing . Your ordinary voter in the street doesn't want to be classed as a unionist even although he wants a united uk. it would be better not picking that name unless you just want a small right wing party. -

Their statement ("Spokesman")- even worse than predicted. Absurd
pete replied to SteveC's topic in Rangers Chat
Yes the party line for all clubs seems to be over-exuberant or other people are sensationalising it, unless it is singing the Billy boy's that is 4 months in prison and a media meltdown. -
There is always a decision from a commanding officer which action will cause the most trouble, moving in to arrest people or nowadays it is to film them and get them during or after the game. I have no idea how the long the effigies were hanging but I would guess his choice would be to order the stewards to deal with it and what should have happened is that the police were already sorting out who did it working in the background so as they could arrest them at some time during the game or at the end when leaving the ground. The problem is he was congratulating everyone for good behaviour when there were obvious criminal acts going on around him. Police Scotland have certainly done themselves no favours in the last few high profile games. The keystone cops comes to mind

Thanks mate and don't worry you should have seen the way I started and still am compared to the first team. You write long interesting posts so I see no reason to be worried. Plus anyone who is disrespectful will be banned. Everyone is very supportive normally. Thanks for having a go.
