Jun 30 2008 Hugh Keevins MOTHERWELL boss Mark McGhee will today make another bid for Rangers' Alan Gow after losing Ross McCormack to Cardiff. McGhee doesn't yet know how much he will receive from theWelsh club in a compensation package for former Rangers striker McCormack. But he will have talks with Motherwell owner John Boyle today to ask for whatever money is freed up to be devoted to the chase for Gow. McGhee said: "If Alan has turned down the chance to join Norwich I'm definitely interested in getting him from Motherwell. "I've spoken to Walter Smith about the player before now and I'll be speaking to him again." The main stumbling block is Gow is believed to bank three times more in weekly wages at Ibrox than the highest paid Motherwell player. But the man who rejected Burnley before Norwich is a home bird and the short distance between his house in Clydebank and Motherwell could be the short cut to a deal being done that ends Gow's stay as a misfit at Ibrox. Taking a wage cut to get his career back on track may not be such a bad move. Sitting for another year in the Ibrox reserves isn't going to do him any good at all. With Beasly, Lafferty, McCulloch and Adam all going for the left wing place the chances that Gow will get a start is minimal.

Sorry Craig i don't often disagree with you but it is crazy to think that if the police are having trouble with a group of people it gives them the right to start hitting out at every person they see. If Police are not sure of identities they shouldn't act.

Walter Smith: Judge Kenny Miller on the present, not the past  I hope that statement is just a red herring, if not then i see the same midfield slog we have had for the last 3 years.

Agree lets keep the Boyd thing to one thread. It is getting a bit of a pain.

sorry Jon i don't want to disillusion you but the way to play more attacking is to push up and close players down in their own half. This may seem strange to you but to play more attacking, Boyd is the last player you want in the team. Strikers are now not only judged on putting the ball in the net but their ability to break up, the build up from the opponents. A poacher is not realistic in modern football, a team is 11 players and they have to fight and die as 11 players.

Murray's Ibrox facelift must mirror the ambitions and hopes of Rangers fans
pete replied to pete's topic in Rangers Chat
These things are normally financed by local businesses, local government and a huge mortgage. The mortgage must be paid by the rental of the stadium for other purposes. A hotel and a Casino have been mentioned in the past and it will take something in that class to build a high-tech stadium. -
If you look at Lafferty's CV it doesn't really read that good but i suppose the fact that Celtic and a few other teams were desperate to get him must show he does have something. It will be interesting to see in the pre-season how good he is.

Agree with the guy If Rangers want to compete with Celtic then we have to get the maximum amount of people possible into Ibrox. I also feel it is crazy to have a stadium doing nothing for most of the time. Shops ,fitness clubs and other amenities should be built in to generate an income from the building. I wonder when Murray will make a statement on this?

They are still looking for a striker.

I'll certainly agree on the attacking aspect, another year of 18 yard sightseeing will do in our heads. Although i have not seen much yet that points to more attacking football.

I think the circle must be round on this one. It is obvious the support is split in two groups. One group who think scoring is enough and another group who think it is great he can score but want to see more team work. I don't think we can or should want to change him as i believe you are born with talent and can only fine tune it. You can't make something what it is not. Walter must make the decision: Can we afford to play with Boyd up front just waiting for the few seconds he is productive? Are we going to play attacking enough, to play to Boyd's strength? How much money are his goals worth if we can find a buyer? Personally i hope he stays and is happy to come off the bench in games, but i will not cry if he goes if the price is right.

Gribz i hope that is not some anti-Boyd sentiment. You better watch out the Gersnet Mugabe will be after you,

Yep horrible thing but most heart problems are fixable these days if spotted early enough. Good luck mate.

Excellent post mate. Firstly i can't agree more about Barry Ferguson and i have been preaching the same sermon since he came back from Blackburn. I was asked months ago to come up with a name to replace him. I came up with Orlando Engelaar who at that time was not in the limelight and would have cost about 2 mill in January. Engelaar has not yet signed for Schalke but with Twente now holding out for 8 mill euro's he has now fallen outside our price range. I will now offer up another name who in my opinion would be far more of a positive influence on our midfield than Barry and is in our price range and that is Ismail Aissati of PSV. Last season he was loaned out to FC Twente and was their best player and this season PSV pulled him back in and hardly used him. I am certain Aissati is a diamond waiting to be polished. Not an International and not a first team player his price can't be that high. Why has he not hit it off with PSV. Easy to answer Ibrahim Afellay if we have 20mill euro's we should buy him instead. Walter or Ally if you come on here please note. What is our line-up with the players we now have. ---------------McGregor( no rocket science there)----- Whitteker has to have a good run at right back. King Carlos- certainty. I am going to go mad for a second. I would love to see how Hemdani and king carlos would fit in as our central defenders. I really thought with a good player next to him and barry not taking the ball off his toes Hemdani could have been great in that position. Otherwise it has to be a Newby as with Weir we sit too deep and Webster is a non-starter. I would love Papac to be able to play CH as well to free up the LB position for a fully fit Smith. Thomson -Certainty Newby sell Barry for the money as he will not play second fiddle. Agree with Beasley on the right and Lafferty(i know nothing about him) on the left. At this point i would go for Cousin and Velicka(sp) with Boyd, miller and JCD ready to shove on. That leaves: -----------McGregor------ Whittekar----Carlos----Hemdani-----Smith. --------------Thomson--------- Beasley--------Newby(Aissatti)--------Lafferty --------------Cousin------Velicka ---------
-
You could go 3 at the back with Cuellor, Webster and Weir if Weir was quicker but he is way too slow for that. Personally i hope we bring in a CH as i don't have much faith in Webster ever being totally fit. Suchy? I read via google that PSV,Everton and many top teams were after him last January and I find it funny they have all now disappeared. What has changed that there is no one interested in him now.Strange!
-
I am sure i read it was 5 mil over 5 yrs
-
70 mill is a crazy figure for any player. it is time these practices stopped before honest balanced football is ruined.
-
Agree! Great news and now for king Carlos.

Gomes is worth 10-15 points a season to PSV. One of the best in the world imo. In saying that Dudek was a fantastic keeper for Feynoord but turned into a disaster for Liverpool. Funny how some keepers just seem to lose all confidence. Dudek, Robinson, Menzo to name a few.

Az announced today they had failed to contract two of their best Youth players and they had signed for Arsenal and Liverpool. AZ will get very little in compensation. Az had been in talks with the players over contracts but could not match the offers on hand by Arsenal and Liverpool. We are merciless against the hard hand tactics of these clubs who do it on a regular basis. Sorry put this in the wrong section but in all our academy talk this is the other side of the coin.
-
Yes he does!
-
I agree about the face clutching incident it was a high degree of play acting. Fabregas made all the difference tonight though. He changed the whole pattern of the game. He really is a fantastic player.

Spain deserved their win with excellent football. They must be clear favourites now. If Germany win this it will be the crime of the century. Come on Spain!!!!

Hutton was always going to be a pulling point for McGregor so that door is now shut. I don't think he will be interested in Geordie land or Cittee. I think he will now sign on for one more year. Spurs made the right decision Gomes is a far better keeper.
