  1. Do we as fans get too bogged down on people playing "out of position"? Reading on anther forum and people are going tonto at 2 left backs playing last night. Now granted I missed this one and it may have been atrocious. But I can quite reasonably see Smith playing in front of Wallace or vice versa working quite well based on the individual attributes they have. Gareth Bale started out as a left back. Were Spurs/Southampton fans going nuts about him being used out of position. Mascherano played for a long time at centre back for Barca despite lacking the physical qualities necessary. Rooney and Weelbeck have played wide in midfield for Man Utd. I realise these are exceptional cases or in some cases world class performers. But if I used obscure examples from my local team you wouldn't be aware of them and they would be no more valid. I don't think the issue is always whether someone is in their preferred position but whether or not they have the attributes to do a specific job for the managers game plan in another position. Is it really that big a deal? All that is before you get into the fact that formations are fluid throughout the game and so formations and positions don't define players completely anyway.
  2. It shouldn't be how it is. If we're looking to change something why not look to change things so we are given equal footing? Rather than marching to someone else's tune? The way it is is not fair. Just rolling over and accepting that won't improve our lot.
  3. If everyone was honest, the government and media acted fairly and there was a real intent to tackle sectarianism (or to find out if there really is much if a need to) then of course examining and improving your own behaviour would not be a weakness. My point was Celtic point blank refuse to admit they have any issues and no one presses them further. We were challenged repeatedly. Repeatedly we give ground. But they don't stop. They don't consider other arguably now more important targets. They just see us as an easy option to promote the sectarianism industry and come at us again and again. Compared to Celtic we showed we were weak and could be pushed around. They just said fuck off and are largely left to get on with their appalling behaviour. I'm not sure we are out of touch with contemporary Scotland. I bet the vast majority would not give a shit about this stuff. But the media/government continually ram it down their throats. They set the agendas that the masses follow. We are really no worse than anyone else. Certainly not now. But media attention wouldn't make you believe that and that is where the lay persons opinions on it are formed. I don't think any amount of cleaning up our act will change this. What will change it is a neutral media and a government that does its job and doesn't waste money on the so called sectarian problem.
  4. The fact that we have one or two idiots amongst our support (proportionately no more than any other I bet) does not mean the likes of Spence get away with their misdemeanours. A regrettable event yes, but I should have no bearing on how Spence etc are dealt with.
  5. Should the lightning bolt image on his chest not be in the shape of a shoehorn instead?
  6. I largely agree but I think their end game is summed up by your last line. Thats what is wanted. And as they seem to be able to set the agenda how they want and distort the truth and reality how do we stop them? We need to start defending ourselves. The time have huge problems but have never admitted it and have hardly been pressed on it. I'm not saying thats right, but maybe if we did that we would have less problems now, now that we are pretty clean by the standards of large groups of people gathering at sporting or even music events or whatever else.
  7. Good post but I think judgements on who McCoist sees as his first choice CB pairing will be confused by the early part of the season. With the weird registration rules and trialist stuff we had a big target man available for some games and not others. I would suggest that McCoist is perhaps not confident having Little or Clark lead the line as the main or lone forward and prefers to play a big target man with an aerial threat. Daly has performed that role quite well so far, yet when he was unavailable McCoist felt he needed to replace "like for like" in terms of of a physical presence and moved McCulloch up top to provide this. The next month or two should allow us to see who the manager rates where. The evidence so far to me suggests when everyone is available Jig and Mohsni are his preferred centre back pairing. Daly will probably be first choice forward in most games playing with a Little, Clark or even Templeton. Faure looks to be preferred at RB beside the two mentioned CBs. Though I can see this changing dependent on match fitness of Foster an Faure's form. McCoist is from the same school of thought as WS when it comes to experience and I expect McCulloch, Daly and Foster to regularly play these positions when available. It may be the case that we have technically superior players in some of these positions.
  8. Whilst your post is pretty much spot on I dont know if I agree with the idea that if we clean up our act they will desist with attacking us or may even target other deserving targets. Even if we became squeaky clean the evidence to date seems to suggest they would find other ways to blame us or start attacking parts of our identity that to any right minded individual could or should not be attacked. The more we concede the more they come from. The bigger issue in society is why the media, government etc dont appear to want to tackle this "problem" even handedly across the board but merely hammer one section of society that has demonstrated real attempts to change behaviours and attitudes. Perhaps if we had done what the mhanks have and insisted we were doing nothing wrong and had nothing to change then we would have been left alone. Instead we have shown weakness, admitted fault and that was merely a red flag to a bull for them to come at us again and again and again. No matter what strides we take forward. Until there is an even handed or sensible approach to addressing societies ills across the board there will never be a satisfactory outcome. The media and the government largely dont want to "fix" the problem. Instead they want to magnify and exaggerate the so called problem to drive a sectarianism industry to fund and finance certain bodies and friends.
  9. I think with the acquisitions made and the bans in place you can't yet make that judgement. You can say that McCoist appears to prefer Faure to McAusland at RB.
  10. You may have been the first to mention it on this thread but it's been used on our fans websites for about 18months at least. Like the other example I used people latch on to these derisive terms as a fashionable way to bash payers they don't like. It's is far easier and lazier to type jig was shoehorned in than to discuss the fact that the manager sees him as his no. 1 or 2 first choice centre back. Whether the manager is correct to hold this view from a footballing pov is up for debate. But I'm sorry I have no time for the view that the manager selects McCulloch for some sort of emotional or non-footballing reason. I will give the manager the respect that he picks what he believe is the best team for the game. Yes he will get it wrong but he makes his choices based on his knowledge of football and not because he is desperate to shoehorn best bud Jig into his starting line up.
  11. In a nutshell. It is more that fans have issues of favourites or even more likely least favourites. They struggle to discuss their inclusion and performance logically and objectively. They accuse the manager of some form of nepotism (for want of the word I am looking for) yet it is the fans whose views appear more tainted by emotion.
  12. Everone is shitting bricks about McCulloch getting picked at the back. He is undoubtedly the biggest goal threat in the team though. Daly and Clark haven't quite clicked yet and Daly's finishing seems questionable. Realistically we wouldn't want to see a frontline of Jig and Daly. We want one powerful, physical forward and a quicker more mobile partner. It also seeks to be agreed Little s ar more effective through the middle and that switch changed the game yesterday. Surely all fans would be happy if Daly and Clark were benched for last season's star strikers? If not the only explanation is these fans want their favourites shoehorned into the side?
  13. A common sense view I can get on board with. Not sure about the McLeod part but based on this weekend it is hard to argue.
  14. McAusland has benn pretty decent overall. "Outstanding" is people getting carried away as it suits their anti-jig shoehorning argument. There was a game not too long ago, I forget which, where McAusland was right back and we really struggled with everything coming down their left. I would have kept McAusland and probably dropped Faure who again has been decent enough but not as fantastic as people make out. The shoehorn thing does my box in though. Up with the Barry back pass and monster munch chat. The phrase suggests the manager would play LM at left back, right wing, anywhere to get him in the team. In reality the mananger just thinks Lee is one of our best options at centre back who can play upfront too (like DJ or as as happened with many physical centre forwards late in their career). It is insulting to the manager to use the shoehorn phrase in regards to his selection of Jig at CB. Instead you could merely state that you disagree with his opinion that LM is one of our best CBs. I associate "shoehorn", "Barry back pass" or "monster munch" with a lack of maturity or an inability to make a coherent argument. It is lazy, childish and not conducive of decent debate.
  15. McAusland hasn't been outstanding. People bending the truth to moan about McCulloch's inclusion.
  16. On the plus side MCLeod should be a stick on for CM.
  17. What if.... What if.... What if PLG was actually any good at management. Same old tedious crap when it comes to PLG. No one else gets the luxury of being shit at their job but getting to lump most the blame on other people. I only wish the manager we got was even one tenth as brilliant as people make him out to be.
  18. We should. We wont. 4 games 4 wins +18 goal difference, wont be long before this season starts to wear thin and the players let themselves down with a poor attitude to a game resulting in a draw or a defeat. 36 games is too many to play with a 100% or even undefeated when there is a lack of real competition to motivate them. Not bashing the players or the manager. Thats just how it is.
  19. Has anyone asked the club why he has done this and how he can expect to continue in his role after doing things like this?
  20. Not a left midfielder for me. Which is a shame as he'll probably get dropped. :-( black and Law in the middle. Unfortunately that can only stunt his development.
  21. Getting carried away after last year! ;-)
  22. If people think banning BBC Scotland has negatively affected us they are off their heads IMO. We weren't featured as the main stories last year either. They're excuse/reasoning is that we are in the lower leagues. Was the case before the ban. The ban has f.a. To do with that. We can't continue being chummy with organisations that are doing us down. That certainly didn't work. Frankly baffling.
  23. A comfortable win and a goal or two for Clark would suit me. 4-1.
