Not sure if he should be playing in the first team after 2 reserve games. Why rush him back, St Mirren aside we're doing ok. Maybe give him the last half hour against ICT if we have it wrapped up.
-
Didn't mean this to come across as an attack on Weir. Think he's been and excellent signing and would still play for Scotland if it was up to me. The real issue is this problem we seem to have in dealing with a traditional British style centre forward.

Lost £170 odds betting on Chelsea £4 up for the day atm. Lol. Should've steered clear of this one. Oh well.

I did try to state that he never was that fast. Just pointing out that as you age you will lose a bit as well. Maybe didn't make that very clear. I also agree that with no European football and therefore few quality sides to compete with this season Weir will do fine. Obviously we need to look for his long term successor though, be that Broadfoot, Webster or a new signing.

Most Rangers fans face a bit of a quandary when it comes to our defensive line up. Whilst Weir currently forms our strongest available centre back partnership with summer signing Madjid Bougherra. However it is suggested that playing the veteran Scot leads to some of our troubles against better quality opposition. Due to Weir's advancing years, whatever pace he once had is beginning to dessert him. Weir was never an exceptionally fast player. But with his reading of the game he was not often exposed for a lack of pace. Weir has performed admirably for the club since Walter Smith brought him back upto Scotland and can be proud of his performances for the club. He formed a water-tight back line with Cuellar and has struck up an excellent understanding with Bougherra already. However many fans have questioned whether his lack of pace causes a back line to sit too deep and invite pressure onto our defence. However Saturday's game at Hamilton exposed another potential issue for our defenders. Hamilton forward Offiong gave both Weir and Bougherra a torrid time with his strength. Every high ball played upto Offiong stuck. Any ball chest or head height was won by Offiong and played off to a team mate. Fortunately Hamilton didn't have the squad to take advantage. Unusually for Weir, who normally relishes the physical battle, and Bougherra who looks like a big strong centre back, they just could not match him for strength. I was actually relieved and a little confused when billy Reid decided to withdraw him when he'd had so much success in the first half. It reminded me a lot of a game in the past few seasons when we played Hearts and the centre backs, I believe they were Weir and Cuellar, again just could not compete in the physical battle. He ran amok and it's not the only such incident. Kenny Deuchar won a move to MLS football off the back of a a bustling centre forward performance against us were he bruised our defence all game and managed to get on the score sheet. Whilst many are worried about David Weir, his lack of pace and who his successor is I think we also need to look at why our back line struggles so much against big bruising centre forwards? With the game in Scotland being very much a physical battle you have to match the work rate and commitment of the opposition before your superior tecchnical and tactical ability can win through. It is also worrying when you look at the forward options available to Celtic, the only other contenders for the league title. Samaras, Hesselink and even Killen are all big guys. And whilst none of them should unduly worry us, if Strachan identifies this potential weakness in our team and lines his team up appropriately we may find ourselves struggling in the OF games.

Fair do's. Will double check that. Should maybe have done that before taking someone else's word for it and posting this.

Aye, need to calm down. If I get a win today will just bank most of it. Leave £50 or so to play around with.

Hamilton 1 : 3 Rangers - Player Ratings and MoM Poll
Super_Ally replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Sorry Craig, actually you're right. Broadfoot had a steady game and tried to get forward often. Didn't shirk responsibility and tried to move the ball forward. Broadfoot was our second best player. 7/10 for me. Not overly impressed by anyone else though. -
Cheers. Banked £500 so will be at least that up whatever. Tbh wont be too disappointed if I lose the rest chasing bigger returns because of this.

BD is that just a wee joke or do you know it's incorrect? I used to subscribe to the theory that he shouldn't play in certain games. But with the departure of Cousin, whose motivation and commitment(sp) was questionable, and the paucity of options upfront I wouldplay Boyd in all games when fit and on-form and take the negatives of his game with the positives.

Looks like I am unfortunate never to have seen the man play. Always sad to hear of a legend passing.

For which game would you look to sell it for? Frankie says it's £307 at the minute for a ST and wouldn't want to rip you off with £200, Obviously depending on which game you were to sell it by I would pay whatever the going rate is. Dependent on me winning my bets today

Walter's ill-informed outburst riles the decent, web-savvy fan

Totally agree Ricky. Get the journos and politicians to fuck as it appears the majority on either side are sensible about the rivalry and banter.- 51 replies

Hamilton 1 : 3 Rangers - Player Ratings and MoM Poll
Super_Ally replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
It seems like too long since we last had one of these threads Frankie. Don't agree that Miller deserves the same score as Boyd. Don't think anyone came close to KB yesterday. I know i'm a big Boyd fan, but my honest assessment is that he was the only player truly deserving of praise yesterday. Although will let the rest off with the conditions. Miller worked hard but his first half was even more shocking than Boyds. 2nd half he would have got 6/7, first half about a 2. Was suprised by Novo's compousre at the goal. That's the kind of chance he would normally fluff as he ahd far too long to think about it. Looked like a top class striker putting that one away. -
And some would take £2 million for him if a Championship club offered it.
-
Lost £300 on Manu U Rangers. Would've returned £600. Reading lost £200 in a treble with Juve and barca. Can't remember what that would've returned. £75 up for the day tho. Just playing around with the winnings of midweek so going a bit crazy with the stakes. But thought sod it, never had the money in the first place and when will I be in a position to put money like that on games again?
-
Would be hilarious of Spurs went down Gribz. Newcastle too. Those two and Stoke I reckon/hope.
-
Soccer base has it as 56 league goals in just 63 starts.
-
Dado, the guy next to me today was banging on about how he didn't rate him. Wanting to see Velicka This was before he scored the goals that won the game right enough.
-
Also was apparently broadcast on radio that we have never lost a game in which Boydy has scored!
-
Really fancy doing it at Pitoddrie but think I would end up in A + E becuase I forget to easily that I need to shut up and so would give it away and get a real doing
-
Have read online that in the 23 games Boyd has started this year we have won 23 times. Can anyone dispute/prove this? It's a simple game, or at least it should be.

Got a pair of tickets for the home end today. Never done it before so didn't know what to expect. Decided I should just sit there and be quiet. Not give away my allegiances. However I realised i'd be alright when I saw a girl sat near me brazenly wearing Rangers branded gear. Turns out some guy bought 45 tickets for their end and sold them to bears so there was a wee group of us. No bother for most the game. They celebrated their goal. Was a bit sick being so close to that. Initially I kept quiet, but you've all seen i'm a loony and quite quickly I forgot where I was and kept shouting for Rangers decisions etc. When we celebrated the third some Hamilton fans were spitting mad at us, asking stewards to eject us etc. The security guys bottled it. Safety in numbers for us. Why did it take until the third for their fans to take the hump at us though? Nothing inciteful was happening, just supporting our team. After they had a tantrum some of the bears started taking the piss, sarcastically supporting Accies. Was great banter. Anyone got any more interesting stories of this kind of thing? Like sitting in the home end at Pittodrie or the glitter dome?

Well in mate. Surely your mate owes you something for using your account? Even if it's just a few beers. My winnings this week paid for me and the flat mate to go to Hamilton today.

Threw away £300 of my weeks winnings on a Rangers Man U double. Raging. Would've returned £600. Did however have a Birmingham Dundee Utd double that won me £310. £10 up for the day. Lol.
