Cynically I expect that if a journalist were to cause the reaction ecosse desires then the editor or other bosses would merely attempt to placate the aggrieved parties with insincere apologies whilst really rubbing their hands in glee at the interest and sales the journalist elicits. For how can anyone complain about the writings of a journalist unless they have purchased the paper or read it online which all generates money for the paper. It may work, but it would be a frustratingly slow process as with Speirs.

I am a bit harsh on him. Not because he's an ex-Celtic player. But because a player with such few positive attributes related to the game has stolen a living from it, because our manager who is so highly revered has a blind spot when it comes to his obvious deficiencies and because I and the public in general are continually patronised by our media about his ability to play the game and his performances in games that we can clearly see ourselves have been poor. For me, last night summed up what a poor footballer he is. A "trier" like him shouldn't be playing above junior level.

Aye, forgot i'd read that earlier. Still with so many choices for Walter it wont be easy to predict the sterting line up.

Fair enough, read too much into the comment about needing 2 CB's and 2 FB's

The following article on the Rangers website: Steve Davis. My Rangers Delight suddenly got me thinking about our summer transfer dealings. I don't want to discuss the fact that it was done far too late. We all know that, there's not going to be any interesting views raised on that point. I also know it's too early to judge players, i'm merely talking first impressions. However approximately a third of the way down the page is the following paragraph: Immediately I thought that's a fairly impressive transfer spree and I wondered what everyone else thought of the inidividual signings and how they have improved or otherwise the squad. Beginning with Davis then. As long as he's not played on the right he could be a great signing. Needs to rediscover his form of his first few games at the club and the signs last night suggest he's in good form. Competition for places in the middle of the park is incredible. Kye Lafferty - A vastly inflated transfer fee, although it suggests signs of forward planning and long term thinking from the club. the only way this transfer made sense to me was to buy up a young rising star on a long contract, showcase him at a big European club and in Europe (ok not thsi season now but in future) and sell him on at a profit. His qualities as a player do not suggest a £4million pound player, but if we can sell him on for more than that after a couple of seasons of good performances then it could be the way forward for a club that does not have the mega bucks of a bigger league. Is a risky strategy that relies on the ability to spot players. Andreas Velicka - Looked a very good prospect in pre-season. In fleeting appearances he did more than some of our other forward players. A physical presence with an eye for goal. Outwith Boyd perhaps our only other genuine goal threat from our strikers. Madjid Bougherra - Huge boots to fill with the departure of last year POTY. Should have seen the writing on the wall regarding Cuellar when Madjid was brought in. Early signs are promising, strong, defensively sound and comfortable on the ball. With the realisation that star players with such large transfer fees as Cuellar will be sold on the club has to be able to bring in replacements at a reduced fee that the management believe can pcik up where the old player left off. Can madjid do this. Who knows, but certainly we might have struggle to find a better replacement. Need to find him a long term partner now. Pedro Mendes - Again hard to comment with just one appearance to go on. What an appearance though. MOTM in his first game, running the midfield and therefore the match. Forged an excellent understanding with Thomson immediately that will be encouarging to all fans. Again adds to the excellent choices in the centre of the field. Will be really exciting when Ferguson is back to link up with the former Pompey star. Aaron - An unkown to myself, but highly rated in Spain. Sounded very exciting in a bounce game with killie. Could really light up our play down the left flank and help us lose the winning ugly mantra. Will Smith trust a relative youngster though? Edu - Signing will hopefully be confirmed tomorrow as a work permit is agreed. Again an unkown but already a international and few players seem to leave the MLS for multi million pound fees suggesting this player may have something different to your average US player. Worried by the noises that he is a utility player though. Look at Dailly and to a lesser extent Ian Murray to see why. Miller - £2mil wasted on a goal-shy forward. A significant part of our early transfer spending wasted on him that no doubt contributed to our early European exit, costing us approximately £12million. Getting what we expect. A lot of running but little end product. The headless chicken act. Law of averages as a forward player for Rangers you're going to have the odd good momment such as the run v Hearts to create the goal that sealed the points. Needs to show a killer instinct if he is to win over the fans, but his career suggests that is unlikely to happen. Why some fans and supposed experts of the game laud a player for trying hard and running about a lot is frankly mystifying. 8 signings, 5 of which impress me with 2 i've yet to really see. Obviously all have a long way to go to prove themselves at the club but the early signs are encouraging. Yet again we have the strongest squad in the country, on paper at least. Without the distraction of an extended European run we have to fancy ourselves to win back the title and anything less should not be tolerated.

Whilst I agree with msot of Wija's post, there is no way we need or can afford an enitrely new back 4. The squad is far too large as it is and several players would have to be sold before we could look at bringing many more in. RB we have Whittaker and Broadfoot although SW really needs to make this position his own. We also have Lowing in reserve he loosk decent. CB We have Bourgherra as first choice with Weir although I think we would all like a first choice pick ahead of DW. However in back up to these two we have Broadfoot, Dailly (not happy with him) Webster when he returns from loan hopefully as the player he was at Hearts. LB we have Papac as back up with hopefully a fully recovered Smith as back up, possibly taking first choice. I agree, if we can find room in the squad and the funds, another centre back is required. Broadfoot and or Whittaker would have to go before another RB came in and ithink we're covered at LB.

Certainly the midfield is going to be interesting. With Lafferty probably being injured though I think many may be disappointed as McCulloch might come back in. Particularly with Smith penchant for going safe at it being away at pittodrie. Other options for the left are Adam, Beasley (although is he fit enough to start), Aaron (same issue as DmB and also is Walter brave enough to pitch him in. Obviously formation, shape and tactics will dictate who plays wide left. Will we want a true wide player or a more solid midfield.
-
Miller - Crap. Watch last night. Cousin - Attitude problem. For all that he should be good, rarely produces it. Darche - Injury prone, lacks composure when it matters. Novo - Could and should play wide right or up top. Lafferty - Likely Injured. Velicka - Looks like he could be useful. Needs to up performance level though. Boyd - Struggled last week but our best goalscorer and with a decent midifled behind him is bound to start banging the goals in again. We all know what is problems are, but at least he appears to be working on them. Frankly though, the rest of our forward line is pretty crap and all have their obvious faults too. Until we have the money to bring in someone better, it's a no brainer that he should start.

Someone save this thread to prove it happened. Me and Gribz agreeing. Whilst Broadfoot may not be everyone's cup of tea as a long term solution to playing CB he's had a decent start to the season and is the obvious choice.

Would look better if that was actually a collar, instead of a "fake" collar. Football shirts were better back in the day when they still had collars. All down hill since then. Also didn't like the embroidered writing below the diadora badge tonight but guess that's a one off. Looks better without it.

I'd go with your back four too if Weir is out. Weir should've told Burley to fuck off anyway. Only drafted into a squad as back up when an inferior player is injured. Was disrespectful to Weir imo.
-
I'm not sure a grovelling apology to the fans for a terrible result is the way forward. I imagine Walter is hurting at least every bit as much as the rest of us and the most positive action from him would be to use it as a spur to ensure future success.
-
I'll be over it when we win the treble!
-
Shame that donkey Miller will be starting up front with McFadden then. Source is Burley before anyone asks, was quoted on BBC.
-
Agree about the last but. Don't imagine he's on the mega bucks he would likely be bringing in down south but find it hard to believe that a player who has plied his trade in the EPL for years and has so much international experience (ha ha) could not negotiate a better wage. Perhaps you are right though, as i'm not basing my supposition on any kind of facts.
-
I imagine Dailly will be on a lot more coming from down south too. I know Gribz is really pushing for Boyd to be moved on but I don't see it and believe it would be sheer folly to do so. The only "better" striker we have is in fact not better because of his shocking attitude.
-
Can't even blame it on Can't even be bothered to think about it but aye guess you're right. Long story short the cheating bassas have many more points than they should.
-
Just a thought that maybe instead of counting individual decisions going for against you could tally up the number of points gained or lost in individual games as a result of refereeing cock ups. So for example Rangers would read 0 as we have gained all the points we have accrued fairly and Celtic would read +5 as that is the number of points the referees have helped them to after just 2 games. Either the abvoe or run 2 tallies. One counting each decision and the second following the above format.
-
New season, same dodgy decisions. And yet we have to put off with the rest of Scottish football saying the Old Firm get all the decisions. Just because celtic make up one half of the OF doesn't mean the OF get all the decisions. Just those mhanky bassas.
-
The foul on the Dundee Utd player was absolutely stone wall. Scandalous decision yet again. Was resigned to it not being "our" day again. The two hand balls, well letter of the law a penalty should be given for both of them, although the same sequence of play. However they were also examples of i've seen them given and i've seen them not. Still though Dundee United should have had at least one penalty and you know for certain if the handballs had happened at the other end what woudl've happened. Thank christ that ref went off injured.

Sorry could of sowrn there was a question mark in the thread title. How big a squad are we looking for?
-
In a story about Edu potentially signing the BBC have included a line saying Rangers remain tight lipped about reports we have signed Davis. (Read on teletext but this is usually a concise version of stories from their website). Anyone know anything more about this?
-
Does anywhere know where I will be able to catch the Old Firm at the end of the month in Madrid. Tried bluenosebars but there is nothing on there. Cheers guys.

A defensive midfielder being signed again. Mendes whilst a good player is hardly an out and out attacking midifelder is he. Added to Thomson, Dailly, Hemdani. Are we going to play any attack minded players apart from the one or two strikers in the eleven?
