Rangers bid for Croatian hitman Jelavic

Recommended Posts

he would be able to sign a pre-contract in January, I think?

Right.... but you said "why didnt they try to get him to sign a pre-contract" - they can't do that right now as it would probably be seen to be tapping up.

Are we going to sign anyone at all? what the hell are rapid playing at? clyde 1 news at lunch time said rangers had totalled a bid in the region of £3.5 and rapid had knocked it back?

Seems they want the full magillah of £4M and not a penny less.

No matter how much WS wants this guy, £4m is far to much for us to pay for 1 player with the mess our finances are currently in. We should just walk away from the deal and look elsewhere.

If we do sign this guy and he flops, it'll cripple us even more. Personally, I think we can't afford to spend £4m on a player anymore. It's 50/50 whether a new player is a success or not and we can't take the risk, especially not at £4m.

The matter of pre contracts has been discussed before and in fact Frazer Wishart of the SPFA has been on record stating that you could in theory sign a pre contract with Club B , a day after signing for Club A , the 6 month time scale is a bit of a red herring with regards to the actual signing it refers to the time scale in which a player is free to talk to any other club without informing his present employer

so can he simply "inform" rapid that he is talking to us and then sign a deal starting next year NOW? where as he wouldnt have to tell them if there were 6 months left? or would he need rapids consent to speak to us?

That is my understanding of the matter , I dont believe he needs Rapid's consent
