EXCLUSIVE: Cardiff fend off Rangers to make Don Cowie new offer

CARDIFF CITY have stepped up their bid to re-sign Scotland cap Don Cowie and fend off interest from Rangers.

The Bluebirds offered the midfielder a fresh two-year deal yesterday.

Gers boss Ally McCoist is keen to sign Cowie, who is out of contract this summer.

The 31-year-old played a major part in helping the Welsh side reach the Premier League, but then lost his place last season.

Cardiff boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer holds the key and if Cowie gets an assurance that he will get his chance then he is likely to remain.

Rangers have been on the former Ross County player’s trail for weeks. McCoist spoke to the player and then asked chief executive Graham Wallace to make an offer, but it’s understood that has not yet happened.

Blackburn Rovers are also keen on Cowie.

McCoist, who is hoping to add another two players, has already signed strikers Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller, and defender Darren McGregor from St Mirren.

Financially its a shame that Cardiff could blow us out the water. However if Cowie wants to continue his career for trophies and play for the biggest club in his country then he may opt for the move to ibrox.

we have learned nothing, i always say it when talking about us we don't play to win we always play to not lose and in my opinion that's a massive difference

If that's the case it seems like a brilliant way to play in the league. 33 wins and 3 draws and almost 3 goals a game, means that it worked perfectly. If other teams do the old fashioned "play to win", then their results suggest they are doing something sub-optimal...

Did it? With the money we spent on our team I woulda expected much much more than what was served up.

Sometimes just winning isn't enough
