Transfer Deadline Day: Michael O'Halloran signs until 2020

Recommended Posts

RANGERS have rejected a move from Aberdeen to sign Cammy Bell on loan.

The Dons were rocked by the news No1 Danny Ward was being recalled by Liverpool on Sunday.

That left them with Scott Brown as the only senior goalie on their books, with third choice Danny Rogers at Falkirk.

SunSport can reveal that saw Derek McInnes move swiftly to try to sign Ibrox keeper Bell.

He was left frustrated when Gers boss Mark Warburton pulled the plug on a move.

It’s thought ex-Killlie keeper Bell, 29, would have been keen on the switch after dropping down the pecking order at Gers.

He had been first choice at Ibrox after being signed by Ally McCoist in 2013.

But he hasn’t featured since the play-off thrashing by Motherwell at the end of last season.

Bell missed the first half of this campaign through injury as summer signing Wes Foderingham was handed the gloves.

But he has been back fit and training for the past three weeks. Polish keeper Maciej Gostomski was signed by Gers until the end of the season last week, and he sat on the bench for the Cup win over Cowdenbeath.

Despite missing out on Bell, McInnes would prefer Rogers to stay with the Bairns. He said: “A few options have been put to us and we are considering various things. One is Danny Rogers.

“I spoke to Peter Houston last week when Liverpool told us they were happy for Danny Ward to stay with us, so we were happy for Danny Rogers to stay there.

“He is in a good place at Falkirk, he’s just won Player of the Month. We will take our time to assess the situation and see where we’re going to go.”

McInnes was told by Liverpool he could keep Ward last week, but Adam Bogdan’s poor form persuaded Kop boss Jurgen Klopp to make a shock U-turn.

McInnes added: “Last week Liverpool said they were delighted with how Danny was doing.

“But the circumstances have changed and they wanted him back. It’s not ideal but we were lucky to have him.”

Klopp said: “We have watched the improvement of Danny at Aberdeen and we felt it was the right time to bring him back.”

Rangers hope to seal double signing despite being told players are not for sale

06:00, 12 Jan 2016

By Keith Jackson

MARK WARBURTON believes Toumani Diagouraga and Michael O'Halloran will help his side seal promotion to the Premiership but Brentford and St Johnstone aren't willing to sell.

RANGERS remain hopeful of landing top January targets Toumani Diagouraga and Michael O’Halloran despite being told neither player will be sold during the transfer window.

Record Sport revealed last week how Ibrox boss Mark Warburton had launched a raid on his former club Brentford for French midfielder Diagouraga and hoped to have the player in Glasgow to sign at the weekend.

But the deal stalled on Friday when Brentford booted out a third Rangers bid and yesterday the 28-year-old reacted by slapping in a transfer demand which was immediately rejected by his club.

Last night discussions were reaching an impasse behind the scenes in London with Diagouraga’s camp adamant that their man has his heart set on a move across the border.

And while Warburton was waiting for news of a breakthrough in those discussions, St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright was battling to keep talisman O’Halloran at McDiarmid Park.

Rangers were linked with a possible move for O’Halloran after Warburton’s chief scour, Frank McParland watched the attacker in Scottish Cup action against Kilmarnock at the weekend.

Record Sport believes Rangers have now made a move to land the 24-year-old and Warburton hopes to get the deal wrapped up quickly in order that the player can bolster his promotion push.

In fact, the Rangers manager believes by capturing both O’Halloran and Diagouraga, he will have set his side perfectly set up to win this season’s Championship title race.

But now it’s up to Dave King’s regime to deliver the goods and last night Saints boss Wright was equally adamant that O’Halloran will be going no-where during the winter sales.

Wright said: “We have been pretty consistent on this: Mikey is not for sale. He’s told us he wants to stay and we want to keep him here, that’s the bottom line.

“You’d have to ask Rangers if that’s who they were here to see because nobody has been in touch with us. Mikey still has a lot to play for here and there’s nothing been put in front of us to change that.

“He’s having to deal with speculation and it could be unsettling for him.

“We took him off on Saturday because the pitch didn’t help him with the way he plays.”

Why the fuck would we want to hang on to Bell, thought we would jump at the chance to off-load him

?

It was only a loan and I can't see Aberdeen wanting to pay much of Bell's exorbitant weekly wage McCoist gave him when he signed

RANGERS have been linked with QPR midfielder Massimo Luongo.

The Australian international, 23, has fallen out of favour under Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and the Gers, Middlesbrough and MK Dons are all said to be tracking the former Tottenham youngster.

The Sydney-born player was named player of the tournament at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.

O'Halloran has scored just 2 league goals this season. Why would we want to sign him?

Waghorn's scoring record (as a striker, not a winger) wasn't exactly smashing before joining up with us?

Generally though, I am not sure how much of the current rumours are actually correct, Diagouraga aside.

On another note, for the time being we have to trust Warburton's judgement on his signings. He will not get the cream of the cream, not even down in England, where dozens of scouts, agents and managers are in the hunt for talent. And whether that talent is up fro grabs and/or wanting to come is another matter too. So we'll have to be content with what we get and hope W&W can turn them into the Rangers players required right now. If they later on become another Aaron Ramsey or Raheem Sterling, fine. If they are "just able" to get us back into the Premiership and preferrably the top half next season, fine. I reckon by the time next summer happens by, a lot of off-field stuff will have been settled, which should also ease the restrictions that the playing-squad will sure have money-wise. Right now though, our next stop is Ibrox and Livingston.
