RANGERS have been given the go-ahead to make a January swoop for Jota after Eibar revealed they will return him to Brentford.

Ibrox boss Mark Warburton has been strongly linked with a loan move for the Spaniard, who was signed by him two years ago.

Rangers boss Mark Warburton is keen on bringing Jota to Ibrox

The ex-Celta Vigo ace was loaned out for a second time to the La Liga shock troops Eibar, who currently sit in a lofty seventh place.

But Eibar have hardly used him this season – his last start was a Copa del Rey tie against Sporting Gijon in November.

And they have admitted they are prepared to send him back to the London club, where he will be allowed to rejoin Warburton once the January transfer window opens.

Jota has struggled for games since making his loan move from Brentford

Eibar sporting director Fran Garagarza said: “Brentford have an option to recall Jota from his loan in January.

“He’s disappointed that he hasn’t played more games for us and he is within his rights to ask for the loan deal to be terminated.

“If the player wants that and Brentford wants that, then it’s up to them and there’s nothing we can do.

“He trains well, he is very methodical, calm, correct, respectful and has never had any negative gestures towards the coaching staff.

LIVINGSTON kid Matthew Knox has committed his future to the League One club after agreeing a new two-and-a-half year contract.

The forward burst onto the scene with the Lions last term as he made eight appearances and attracted interest from a number of clubs north and south of the border.

Knox spent time training with Rangers and also had two stints with Manchester United as he appeared to be heading for the exit door at the Toni Macaroni Arena.

The Light Blues made a move to land Knox during the January transfer window but were unable to strike a deal with Livi to bring him to Ibrox.

And the 16-year-old has now decided to extend his stay in West Lothian by signing on the dotted line with David Hopkin’s side.

Knox has made seven appearances for Livi so far this term as he has helped the Lions move ten points clear in the race for the third tier title.

I believe Livi were asking for too much money which scared off various suitors.

Probably best for his development he stays where he is for another year or so and if he continues to develop I'm sure our interest won't go away.

Mark Warburton jets out to meet Jota as Rangers step up bid to land Spanish playmaker

Record Sport understands Warburton made a secret trip at some point in the last seven days in a bid to personally persuade the 25-year-old to move to Glasgow.

Mark Warburton has stepped up his move to land priority January target Jota Peleteiro by flying to Spain to hold face-to-face talks with the winger.

Record Sport understands Warburton made the secret trip at some point in the last seven days in a bid to personally persuade the 25-year-old to move to Glasgow.

Warburton signed Jota for Brentford from Celta Vigo for £1.3m in August 2014 and the player quickly became a key man in the London club’s push for promotion to the Premier League.

But Jota returned to Spain in January this year, joining Eibar on loan, and helping them to win a place in La Liga. And he’s now ready to return to Brentford six months ahead of schedule after falling out of the first team reckoning.

But Warburton believes he can lure Jota to Scotland as the player will be out of contract at Griffin Park in the summer and was not expected to return.

When becomes a "secret trip" a "secret trip"? As soon as he does not tell everyone that he's going on a trip?

If the stuff is true, its interesting, as MW surely rates this guy. We'll get excited once he's over here, pen in hand and ink drying on a contract.

Summer signing Matt Crooks wants out of Rangers after just six months and is keen on a loan move back to England, according to reports.

The towering midfielder has grown frustrated at a lack of top team action at Ibrox with just one start and two substitute appearances to his name. His cause wasn’t helped by an ankle ligament injury picked up soon after his move north from Accrington Stanley.

Now the Daily Mail say the 22-year-old wants to head back south for the second part of the season in search of first team football.

A shortage of midfield options at Ibrox could curtail any potential move however.

When you read stuff like that you have to wonder if it's true, and if not is it just a click bait thing to get hits and attention, or these days, is it paranoid to think that part of it is an attempt to wind us up or even destabilise us?

If it's true then fair enough to the reporting, but who is their source? It seems incredibly unlikely that a young guy who moved from Accrington to Rangers wants to move down again after so short a time, due to a lack of opportunities when he was actually injured for a while at the beginning of the season. When that happens and the team starts to settle before you're fully fit, you're going to have to bide your time at any club.

The story just seems so implausible.

FA EYE WARBS Rangers boss Mark Warburton shock contender for England Under-21s job

The Ibrox*gaffer is on the shortlist of candidates to replace Gareth Southgate, who was promoted to Three Lions first team boss last month

MARK WARBURTON has emerged as a shock contender for the England Under-21s job.

According to The Times the Rangers gaffer is on the shortlist of candidates to replace Gareth Southgate, who was promoted to Three Lions first team boss last month.

The FA are interested in the former Brentford boss because of his proven track record in youth development.

Warburton is unlikely to apply for the role before Friday’s deadline, due to Gers’ busy festive schedule, however the FA have not ruled out approaching potential candidates that interest them.

English football chiefs have prioritised bringing in an English boss with a talent identification background and Warburton fits the bill.

The former Watford academy manager bossed Brentford before leaving for Rangers in 2015.

He helped set up the Next-Gen Series Under-19s tournament, which Uefa*bought in 2013.

The innovative programme has helped develop talent such as Raheem Sterling.

Other candidates for the role include Aidy Boothroyd, Phil Neville and Paul Clement.
