The Pre-Summer-2017 transfer rumours and hearsay all inclusive Thread

Dembele is apparently on over double what Garner is.

but cost less than 1/3 of what JG did - that's the benchmark that many go on.

He will also generate a transfer fee many, many times what he cost them - probably in the x16-x20 region AT LEAST.

I am told that the strongest correlation between money and success is that between salaries and success.

The higher the wage bill, the higher the likelihood of success (trophies, high league position, European progress).

Yet Aberdeen are 9pts ahead of us in the league & St Johnstone are 6pts behind.....both with notably lower wage bills than us.

Yes, but in most leagues the correlation will hold.

Maybe all that SPL positions show is that Rangers is overpaying.

The general assumption is that wages will relate to quality, although at Ibrox the odd (5,7,9) dumpling has presumably

filtered through the net

Or that other clubs are under-paying.....both scenarios just blow your logic "oot that watter" & show that any link (within football) between a teams wage bill & their success level is extremely flawed.

The payment scenario of us being a "BIG" club financially proves that they might be on a higher level but at moment we have too many duds to take us forward and who will be probably extremely hard to move on.We are between a rock and a hard place at the moment.

there will always be exceptions to the rule but the general premise will likely hold more often than not over a period of time (at least in modern football)

Yes, I think that there is an large element of us overpaying...partly because of who we are. There's been plenty of instances over the past few years where we've taken players from other clubs and apparently increased their wages 3 or 4 fold whereas we could have just offered them double and they would surely have still come.

Not my logic. I have seen it demonstrated.
