Ongoing new manager discussion and speculation

Recommended Posts

So yes, we asked for permission to speak to him, Milne said no, has had a chat with him about things and McInnes is now staying so won't be getting the chance to speak to us. Not sure why its taken nearly two days for him to come to that decision though.

Onwards and upwards, that should be his one and only chance to manage Rangers. Move on.

Ian: We really need to start listening to you more. If I had taken your word for it, I could have avoided the last few weeks of worry that DM was going to be our manager. Now, please confirm that it won't be Eck either so I can relax completely.

Ha!Ha!, if only I was ITK?. If he hasn't even spoken to Rangers then we can hardly blame the board!, sounds like he has bottled it!

If you're celebrating the end of McInnes then you clearly haven't considered just how bad an appointment may have to be made. Discounting the usual fantasies and wet dreams about managers we can't afford or who wouldn't dream of taking a step down to our level, the list of possibilities tends to make McInnes look like a missed opportunity. Rather than drool over the impossible, I'd prefer to see Murty get the job, if only to keep some of the crazier names at bay.

You may have misunderstood Bill, but I'd be very happy to have Murty in the role. He has a steep learning curve, and I do have concerns about his ability to command with discipline and respect, but he deserves the chance I think.

With the greatest respect, in terms of what's best for Rangers, it doesn't really matter what you or I think of individual candidates. Which is probably a good thing given how often I call things completely wrong. Most of our opinions are formed at too great a distance from the facts to carry much weight and I'm sure as hell short on clairvoyance these days.
