Ongoing new manager discussion and speculation

Recommended Posts

Is there a prepared contingency basket to move the eggs to ? ...

Process should have that slightly shorter, short-list on top of the table.

Same type of appointment would see uninspiring names left that the support wouldn't be keen on, eg. Tommy Wright.

DK has already said the board hadn't fancied those currently out of contract, eg. Eck.

A real blow to the board.

One thing they shouldn't do is make a knee jerk appt. on the back of this.

IMO, you don't offer the job to someone unless you know they want it. McInnes may be a bottler but we should have found that out before waiting six weeks to make a public fool of ourselves.

Only excuse here for the board is if he reneged on a private agreement to join us.

We didn't offer him the job though. We asked permission to speak to him - two very different things.

It wouldnt surprise me if he had.

It's not really.

You don't speak to the manager of a rival club who want £1m compensation if you're not offering him the job.

How would we know unless we approach them, and we can't do that unless we approach the Club first? Surely we approach several options, then talk to them to arrive at the best candidate. We didn't even talk to DM, and it wasn't even Rangers that released that information.

I think we're kidding ourselves on if we don't think back channels are used before payers and staff are approached.

After six weeks I don't think I'm being unkind by offering strong criticism.

Where's the disagree button. You don't ask permission to speak to a candidate after 6 weeks deliberation unless you have decided he is the preferred candidate.

We'd just be accused of tapping up!

The timescale is annoying, but I'm content if it's part of a process.

I still say it would have been foolish of the board to only interview one candidate.

I would have expected 2 or 3 to be taken to interview stage, and going by Kings words these would most likely be in a job.

We are only hearing about DM coz that is all the Scottish Media have been focusing on.

And Aberdeen are the only Club to release that fact. Nothing untoward there...

Completely disagree.

Of course you can speak to the manager of a rival club without necessarily offering him the job - its part of the recruitment process. Regardless........ how could we offer him the job when we had been refused permission to speak to him ??

Just because they want 1 million compensation doesn't mean that you have to offer him the job. Indeed, given the club said that the candidates they were interested in were all currently employed I would argue that it would be negligent of the Board to basically say "lets pick one and go with him" instead of asking permission to speak with 3 or 4 currently employed managers.
