Honest mistakes or something more sinister?

Recommended Posts

You are purposefully skirting the point. The basic question is - why do the majority of MSPs support (or say they support) Celtic and only 1 says they support Rangers? What is the reason behind this as it is a statistical anomaly (of which there are a fair few strange ones in Scottish politics today).

Not skirting anything....I trust you have figures to back up the claim??? Were ALL MSPs asked their footballing preference???

You also haven't answered my point - The Tories (Scottish Conservative & Unionist Party, to give them their Sunday name), should share the same Unionist views with Rangers (as everyone seems to believe we are a Unionist club), yet despite having 31 Tory MSPs & very similar beliefs over the Union, there is still only 1 (known) Rangers fan.

Which party does this Rangers supporting MSP represent???

There is another threat talking about Windass' stats which are saying he's been outstanding, yet people are adamant that he's been next to useless.....Stats are great, but without backup and context they can be made to represent any particular view point. When you say "The majority of MSPs support Ceptic", how many were asked??? You could ask 10 (out of 129) MSPs who they support, 3 could say Ceptic, the rest each say one other team....based on that research, do the majority support Ceptic??

...and many of the songs sung at every Rangers match are of a religious, cultural and political nature. Which renders claims that politics is irrelevant a wee bit daft.

If the songs are that sincere and relevant, then we are truly bigots and therefore deservedly despised for it.

To be honest I find a lot of the anti-Scottish stuff on here quite unlikeable, and so I shouldn't be surprised that many Scots don't like the club.

Many Rangers fans now seem to be as hateful of our own country as the Tims are.

We are "deservedly despised". Well we are certainly despised (not deservedly). I don't mind that from opposition fans. It goes a bit further than that though.

I find Scottish nationalism unlikeable and thankfully have never once encountered it at a Rangers match.

It's not anti-Scottish, it's pro UK.

The separatists are trying to turn anything Scottish including the saltire, into a political pro-independence statement.

You're correct that many Scots don't like the club because a majority of the support are pro-union and anti-independence. Moving away from football, many can't accept such views

It's difficult to express anything but a pro-independence view without having a howling mob giving you abuse and calling for boycotts. Look at what happened to Tunnocks. Calls for boycotts because they scrapped the image of the lion rampant.

There's also been calls for boycotts of supermarkets, banks, oil companies etc. It's becoming almost fascist in the way that you're not allowed to express an opposing view without there being significant repercussions.

With the likes of Tunnocks etc, its more to do with them ditching their proud Scottish imagery, which has served them VERY well over the years, in favour of a UK image in order to appease those down south.

Do you not feel even the slightest big grieved when Scotch Whisky gets marketed as a British product???

https://www.rangerscharity.org.uk/news/more-msp-backing-for-the-rangers-charity-foundation

The Rangers Charity Foundation has won further praise from Scottish MSPs for the work it does in the community and to support our Armed Forces.

Scottish Labour MSP Pauline McNeill has put down a motion in the Scottish Parliament congratulating the Foundation on being recognised with the Ministry Of Defence’s Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award.

The motion follows on from one submitted by Glasgow Conservative MSP, Adam Tomkins who recently congratulated the Foundation following the publication of our Annual Review.

Ms McNeill’s motion asks that the Parliament notes the good work carried out by the Rangers Charity Foundation and asks it to understand that the Foundation has been recognised with a special award from the Ministry of Defence for its continued support of the Armed Forces.

It continues: “That the Parliament notes; further understands that the foundation has donated over £125,000 in cash to services-related charities over the last five years, as well as in-kind help to dozens of organisations that support serving personnel and veterans, and congratulates the Foundation on this award and for all the other work that it carries out, including the upcoming Big Ibrox Sleep Out, which will see money raised for homeless charities, such as the Glasgow City Mission.”

Ms McNeill’s motion has been supported by a number of other MSPs, including Murdo Fraser, Deputy leader of the Scottish Conservative Party in the Scottish Parliament and Kenneth Gibson of the SNP.

What's this....Support for something Rangers are doing from a selection of MSPs.....can't be real ;)

The world will still view it as 'Scotch'. I'm more aggrieved at the price hike recently announced by nanny state SNP.

Another interesting article from the Daily record in 2014

CELTIC and Rangers fans have found a cause that unites them – Scottish independence.

A snap survey of supporters has found a majority of both Old Firm teams’ fans are backing a Yes vote in September’s referendum.

The poll by Panelbase looked at voting intentions among the support of Scotland’s top clubs for the first time.

Although the results are not scientific, the snapshot suggests that 48 per cent of Celtic fans will vote Yes, compared with 40 per cent planning to vote No. The rest are apparently undecided.

Among Rangers fans, support for independence was placed at 45 per cent – with 41 per cent likely to vote No.

But supporters of Scottish Cup winners St Johnstone are the most ardent Unionists, with 94 per cent set to vote No.

For the Yes camp, the seats at Kilmarnock’s Rugby Park are where they will find most backers, with 59 per cent planning to vote for independence.

Of the 12 Premiership clubs, plus Rangers – who will play in the Championship next season – a majority of fans of eight teams said they will vote No.

Panelbase surveyed more than 1000 Scots for the poll, which was carried out for pro-independence website Wings Over Scotland.

Around 400 of those questioned said they supported one of the teams. The most popular club – with more than 130 respondents – was Rangers.

Tory MSP Murdo Fraser, a Rangers fan, said last night: “I’m sure when Rangers fans realise that voting Yes means giving up the UK, the pound, their British passport, the Union Flag and possibly even the Queen, they will be flooding to the polling stations to vote No in September.”

A spokesman for the Yes Rangers group said: “Although I understand the number asked was relatively small, it’s a pleasant surprise to see more Rangers supporters voting Yes than No.

“We’re seen as the traditional British club and our supporters Unionist by default. But we’re affected as much as everyone else by the poor decisions of successive Westminster governments.

“We have a once in a generation chance to change things for the better and I think more of our supporters are realising this.”

Most supporters of Aberdeen, Dundee United, Hearts, Hibernian, Inverness, Ross County, St Johnstone and St Mirren are in the No camp.

Of the County fans who responded, none committed to backing independence, though 39 per cent were undecided.

A majority of fans of Celtic, Kilmarnock, Motherwell, Partick and Rangers are in the Yes camp
