Make God Laugh, Tell Him Your Plans - Rangers v Celtic Preview

Recommended Posts

If we had come out in the second half, or even after the red card, and had 15 shots, 10 on target, hemmed them in and been wondering why the hell we never won, I’d have been happier. Instead, I’m pissed off that they effectively gave us the ball, said “come ahead “ and contained us to between the 18 yard line and halfway.

I agree there's still a gap; I didn't claim there wasn't.

I only said that the gap is closing; which it clearly is.

We've still got a way to go.

Sorry I misunderstood you when you said “We’ve closed the gap.”

Not long in and the turning point was their second goal. I couldn’t see the Morelos miss from where I was but am assured it was a standout sitter.

We are getting closer but we lacked a cutting edge second half. Cardozo and Alves are not for me, third goal they all stood off. Cummings came on to late and should have been on as soon as they had ten men.

After what happened today with the smoke bomb being thrown into the middle of fans, one thing stands out. If the club don’t ban those away fans, or put them in the corner, they are putting finances before safety.

They came and played for the draw with only one of their usual attacking wingers and an off form Dembele as a lone striker up front. The dangerous position has always been Rogic cutting in onto his left on the right of their midfield looking for fouls and the odd shot here and there. It wasnt a surprise to me that he scored, he normally does when he's playing.

Their midfield was ineffective, other than Rogic, and their defence was woeful we out played them on numerous occasions in the first half. So much so that they resorted to playing the long ball over the top, which through some poor defending from Cardoso, lead to their second equalizer. It was exactly the same from them in the second half up until the sending off then they went to a back four defending in their own half with one man out wide in the channel that Tav left behind as we pushed for the winner.  They got the break and scored the winner then sat in and killed the game.

From mid to front we're more than good enough to beat them but our defence is thin and we'll need to strengthen in the summer. Couple of defensive errors and poor goal keeping was our undoing today. You don't score the first of two goals and expect to lose old firm matches. We should have won that!

The turning point for me was bates' injury.

We needed a settled defence today, and Cardoso just didn't fit in.

Yes, Bates may have been turned for their 3rd, but no way he gets out-muscled or out-run for their 2nd. Stupid aimless ball over the top!
