We weren't terrible but we didn't create better chances and didn't take our half chances. weebluedevil 1,172 Posted April 3, 2022 Share Posted April 3, 2022 The board must shoulder some of the blame, they knew how important this season was and the financial reward for getting to the group stages, but couldn't fund a couple of quality players in the summer transfer window to help get there. Many players are beyond their sell-by date, and have been for a while. It is the players - the very same who played most of his years under SG who surrendered at the Scumhut and as far as I know, a manager still can`t whip his players for not performing. Yes, on the field of play we failed massively, another post-turn of the year collapse. And if you want to hold anything against Gio and his men, it is that he promised to swap and change tactics and hardly ever did so. IMHO it is more telling that the support backs certain players to the hilt and lays into others like there is no tomorrow, while failing to see the glaring tactical errors week in and week out. We should have built on our quick fire start but for some reason retreated and let them control the game. The 2nd half was so predictable and we could have played until midnight and got the same outcomes from the same pass/cross. Their CBs were getting to everything so I'm still bewildered that we persevered with the same one dimensional tactic. Oh well. The league was not lost today. But that`s nothing new. Haha - aye OK. Gio took over when we were top of league, we are now 6 points (plus countless goals) behind in the league. He looks lost, he appears clueless and we have regressed dramatically / alarmingly under his management. I expected Gio to be an upgrade on SG, he has been anything but.
