The Summer 2022 Rangers Transfer Window Rumours and Deals - Thread

What these signings do do dodoo is strengthen areas of the pitch in which we are quite light, for next to nothing. In that regard, I'm happy.

However, let me whinge! I just don't like the profile of these guys.

Hopefully we sign some guys with the correct profile - and then I'll be quite content with these guys.

I see these two as players who should be able to score relatively consistently in the SPFL - something we missed last season.

I see Roofe is injured again. As much as it’s not a surprise when you look at Colak and Lawrence they are available for most games. So that’s a big positive with both players.

For as long as players like Jack or Roofe or Helander are still at Rangers, it's important they are not pilloried by the support for being injured. They wouldn't choose to be injured and all of them will play their part this season, just probably not as often as we would like. Kemar Roofe will still score vital goals and win key matches. Ryan Jack will still be the best midfield talent at the club.

I think we also need to bear in mind when looking at the overall summer spend that the likes of Lawrence will no doubt have negotiated a sign-on fee and/or higher wages since he's a free agent.

I think your whinge is fair, but it should be seen in context of the overall squad composition at the end of the window.   We need to blend the young guns with experienced pros in their prime, with the older heads who lead the dressing room and set the standards.

Yes, they come up here for a reason.

Aribo is a case in point.

The development fee paid to Charlton was somewhere around 300K and that is being used in conjunction with a 10M incoming fee.

The actual truth is somewhat different.

There was a package put together (including buy out price) that went into seven figures to attract Joe to come up here and the initial fee we are receiving is 6M (with potential add-ons which could take the fee way to 10M or apparently even beyond).

We need to establish a reputation for providing players who can flourish in the EPL or we won't get the value we should. It's almost brand like, that clubs are prepared to pay extra for. unfortunately, the same player would be sold by Celtic for more than we could because they have a proven track record. Van Dyyk put them on the map and this week we employed the scout who informed Celtic about the Dutch defender.

Another important factor is the average age of signings.

While I can appreciate Tom Lawrence's ability and think he can do us a good turn if he performs at the level he can, its his attitude/personality I'm not a fan of and has been the part of the reason I was a bit sceptical since he was rumoured.... He had a run in with Tav in the friendly a year or two ago which was completely unprovoked from what I saw but he was also a big part of what got Richard Keogh sacked by Derby County a few years back. I leave you with a few quotes from Richard Keogh...

“I hadn’t spent the evening with Tom," he said.

“I had no reason to believe he was over the limit. Everyone was in there before me so I didn’t think: ‘Hang on a minute.’ It was just: ‘OK. I need to get home. Let’s go.’

"The next thing I know I’m waking up and speaking to the paramedics.”

The incident saw Keogh get in Lawrence's car, along with two other unnamed players, after a team night out in a village pub in rural Derbyshire.

All those involved then fled the scene, except Keogh, who was left behind, unconscious.

After coming to, Keogh detailed how he convinced paramedics he was ok to walk home, before eventually being picked up by police officers and escorted back to his house.

Lawrence and Bennett were later arrested and would plead guilty at Derby magistrates court in October 2019 to drink-driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. They were hit with driving bans and community service.

Keogh claims he was under the impression Lawrence was sober, but just a minute into the drive, the Range Rover carrying them ploughed into the back of Bennett's Mercedes at a give-way point, before veering off into a lamp-post.

Despite only being a passenger in the car, Keogh was the player who Derby chose to come down hardest on.

His contract was ripped up, with Derby citing gross misconduct due to him not wearing a seatbelt in the accident - a legal battle Keogh later won, with the club ordered to pay up the rest of his contract.

His sacking was after he had already rejected an offer on reduced terms. Meanwhile, Lawrence and Bennett - younger players with greater resale value - were retained.

Hopefully he's grown up, being given the captains armband at Derby, you would like to think he must have....

Where did you get this information?  Haven't seen it discussed.

Not official but it was fairly widely discussed at the time.

As you said yourself, signing-on fee plus agents fee, etc

The outlay isn't just the development fee.

A Bosman doesn't usually come free either

Lundstram will have got a fair wedge at the outset.
