  1. Past hour
  2. Will update as progresses. Questions regarding transfers went into Transfer thread
  3. A poorly asked question with a very easy get out.
  4. It hadn’t occurred to me but I think that’s right. Instead of just drawing a wage he made the players earn a wage. Martin needs to do the same with whatever talent Thelwell provides and he’ll be on his way to succeeding.
  5. Today
  6. Nice guy. I didn't know him that well, but spent a couple of evenings in his company and he was enjoyable company. I only bought No 1 a few times, preferring FF, but it was a great alternative. RIP The EA
  7. My worst personal memory was coming out of Pittodrie after we beat them. We normally left early to avoid the crushing but in the excitement of a rare victory we missed our chance. A very large man, a total stranger, shielded me until we got to safety. I could feel my internal organs being crushed. It has left me claustrophic in small spaces and large crowds.
  8. I was at that game too John and was glad we weren't down the front. I remember getting back to the car as the news was coming in from Hillsborough. Very sad day.
  9. I don't expect this will be a popular opinion, but given the success of Tillman, Sima and then Cerny. I wouldn't have a problem with us paying for 4 (I specify 4 because I believe that's the limit) high quality loan signings for this season like Aarons. It may be high cost in terms of fee and wages, but its low risk in that the impact is short term. It also gives the football operations team a bit more time to look for and secure more suitable targets long term. Imagine if last season we took that approach instead of recruiting Propper at cost? We have a lot of work to do this summer and getting 4 quality players in for a year would help accelerate our progress.
  10. Wenger is probably the best example of someone changing culture of a club long term.
  11. I think Gerrard did change the culture. Before he arrived, the yahoos were beating us with ease and we had just been knocked out of Europe by a team no one had heard of. Culture is quite a vague term when it comes to a sports team. We can all take a slightly different meaning from it.
  12. Where did I say Murray appointed Souness? Holmes appointed Souness, we were bankrolled by Marlborough. We were already wealthy, it ramped up a notch under DM, and him and Souness kicked us into overdrive. But well done you're starting to get the point, cash and influential manager = good standard of players, hopefully the 49ers and Cavenagh back Martin sufficiently. Though questions can still be put to Martin's appointment imo.
  13. I think you've explained it very well. They had already made up their minds and now find it difficult to get off their high horse.
  14. None of whom survived? Are you kidding? Boyd and Ferguson were integral to Smith's side.
  15. I forgot it was David Murray who appointed Souness and bankrolled the signing the England team in the summer of 1986. Hopefully he'll return to the club and do it again. 👍
  16. Le Guen was offski when he got offered the PSG job. His biggest challenge was the monster munch brigade none of whom survived when Walter Smith returned
  17. I get the feeling I'm not explaining myself well. It's not just about making improvements. Gerrard made improvements but he didn't change the culture. There are plenty of examples of attempts to change a culture that failed too. Le Guen is the most obvious example where Rangers are concerned. He was hired to change us from a Scottish style of club to a continental style. He failed to do that. The club wouldn't change, he didn't implement or explain the changes he wanted well enough, influential players didn't buy into his vision. There are probably more examples of failure than success in all honesty. Culture change has to come from the very top and the person/people implementing it needs to be backed all the way.

  20. Was he injured most of last season?
  21. Would like to think Max Aarons gets announced today.
  22. I'm hoping the wolves bid for coady is accurate and he goes there.
  23. It's amazing to see the revisionism on display by yourself, genuinely. We got a lucky opportunity with English clubs getting banned in Europe, and had the money to do something about it thanks to David Murray. If you don't like anonymous posts by people on messageboards, this isn't the place for you and you should go 👍🏻
  24. One thing for sure, it ain't the England national team we're signing this time. More like the England washouts.
