I think we are going to be paying the price for our summer 22 transactions for a long time. Giving the 3 auld yins another year was bad enough, giving Goldson a double your dough contract was insane, not getting rid of the always injured (Helander, Roofe, Jack, Oforboh) and not selling or renewing the two with resale value (Morelos Kent) and bringing in Matondo, Davies (decent but not at that price) Souttar (injury prone) Ridvan (v.expensive backup & injury prone) and no doubt others i've managed to block out already. This was the main reason I doubted Wilson's ability. This is his main remit, to manage the squad numbers, contracts etc and where necessary to overrule the manager and say you cant give those 4-5 whose contracts expired another deal if you also want to bring in 5-6 new players and only sell 2. Just look at our CL campaign where we had no CH's and had to play a midfielder and a teenager due to the dreadful management of the squad through the summer window. So for this summer, we are not going to be able to right all of these wrongs at once so I will be happy to let those out of contract leave to bring the squad number down, get rid of the ones who are not available often enough or where we have enough cover (so bye bye Kamara Lundstrum Jack from that one position) and try to free up enough wages to bring in a couple of players who instantly improve our first 11 line-up. A new goalkeeper with McCrorie as backup and McGregor (sadly but necessary)& bottle-merchant McLaughlin both away is an essential first step, and then it is just a case of do what we can in this window to try to create a good first 11. I dont expect massive numbers in, but I do expect massive numbers out.

A midfield enforcer á la Souness would be on my list, the sort you'd be disappointed if he was only red carded twice a season and who would leave a trail of blood, mayhem and maimed in his wake. I wish I was joking.

I don't understand why we so seldom use Arfield. As an attacking midfielder he's still as good as anyone (Cantwell excepted).

It’s fine for my purposes. I don’t know anything about the mechanics of running a site like this. I assume a lot of unpaid work is involved. I look elsewhere sometimes. I don’t see better overall.

It's been on my mind for some time but, since I only really use Gersnet forums, the content of the main Gersnet site has never been of that much interest to me. That said, I can't help feeling it has deteriorated sharply in recent times. There used to be the wonderful facility to research past matches going back decades, or check details of current players, but that all seems to have gone. Player ratings (whatever that was) was introduced and then seemingly abandoned after a few weeks. I'd hazard that the site seems to have lost its way and it's hard to understand where it's going or what it's meant to offer. It's a shame to see it like this when so much more could be made of it.

I still like Kamara - and he's still got a few years left on his contract, so he's still got sell-on value. I'd sell if there's an offer. Matondo has just arrived. It's still too early to write him off. Wright I would sell if there's an option. He's not a bad squad player, though. Does he not could as home-grown in Europe, too? I would absolutely spend £5M on Tillman. No-brainer.

Trimming the squad should be the main focus for Beale and whoever comes in to replace Wilson. If we need to, we should just bite the bullet and pay some of the perma-crocks off.

The Sellik State of Mind Narrative. PQ have made the decision to increase their hours of football output on a Saturday. It is now a guaranteed seven hours from Noon until 19.00hrs. The last hour and a half are filled with a special guest(last week it was Sanjeev Kholi) and selected groupings of club supporters contacted on their way home from a game. BBC Scotland have a number of Sellik supporting Staffers at the top end of the organisation; there's Chris McLaughlin as Sports Correspondent, Tom English as Chief Sports Writer, Kheredine Idessanne as Sports Reporter, ........ etc. What is required to keep up the hate are edgy Sellik supporters from Podcasts - websites that can deliver the killer one liners. As discussed in earlier pieces, A Celtic State of Mind has been chosen and a couple of members have already been appearing across the spectrum, notably Amy Canavan. The Bonnyrigg Rose prickled again on The View from the Terrace. A review of season 2008 had a mention of the number of games faced by Rangers in achieving status as UEFA Cup finalists. Amy delivered the killer lines that the big competition that season like any other was the Premiership and that was won by her beloved Sellik, no mention of the three day extended season.
