Berkovic, mate.

It also ends up being an unnecessary humiliation for McCoist if he doesn't get it.
-
It's an irresponsible comment. 1. Murray is looking to sell. What happens if he does sell. Is the buyer commited to having the same understanding or ending up with a pissed-off assistant manager? 2. What happens if there are a number of better candidates when Smith resigns? Are we to ignore them and just go with an untried McCoist? Murray should have made no comment about who the next manager is going to be.

Really good article, and great to see cash getting raised for a worthy appeal.
-
Cheers Cammy. Missed it so will try and listen to it during the w/e.

We've had McConnell sticking his boot in, Salmond cuddling up to them, the current scottish Secretary's behaviour at OF games witnessed, numerous politicians criticising us for The Famine Chant etc. Reid is just one in a long line of politicians to have a go.
-
Shroomz, no offence meant, and I've edited that comment out. However, as Craig points out, there is no recent emergence of press bias, and the issues in the West of Scotland have been evident for some time, and are nothing to do with John Reid's appearance. The basic point of this issue is Murray's response on "attacks" on Rangers fans. This has been a complaint by the fans for years. I just fail to see why you think things have suddenly got worse.
-
Lawwell's been doing it for years, and before Reid arrived on the scene, as have many journalists etc. The agenda doesn't change because Reid is suddenly doing it. Reid was a self-proclaimed "Glasgow ta1g" and had a "repertoire of Irish Republican songs" long before he was Home Secretary. There is no doubt in my mind that Reid would be doing the same even if he hadn't been Home Secretary.

I think that Murray can't shy away from it just because it's Reid that is the Chairman. He should be dealing with it in the same way as he would with any Chairman, and if he is unable to that then he should be looking to stand down again. The issues of upsetting British Muslims and trying to drive a wedge between Scottish Protestants and RCs are two totally different issues, and I fail to see that his comments are aimed at anything other than Rangers and their supporters and I fail to see how the Government had any influence over his comments. 2+2 doesn't always have to equal 17.
-
Who do you think should be doing it? Reid as Chairman criticised our support and it should be up to Murray to respond as Chairman. If it's anyone else then it's too lightweight.
-
1986? Ally maybe....
-
Hardly earth shattering stuff. Actually a feeble response to Reid's comments. And I don't believe Murray put any money into the club during NIAR, so the comment about his investment is misleading.
-
I don't see what he's got. Seems like a waste of money, but I'll be more than happy to be proved wrong.

Craig, good idea in creating a separate thread. I'm guessing that the Auchinleck game was very early 80s. Cammy, no the Bo'ness-Pollok game was a Saturday afternoon, probably in 1979. TBH, yeah Prytz played for Pollok. I went to watch Pollok a lot when I was at school when i wasn't playing for the BB. When the whole Souness revolution kicked off it was funny to see a whole load of people at Ibrox who had previously been at Newlandsfield in previous seasons. One other recollection was going to a game against some Ayrshre team (could have been Beith, not sure, just remember it was full of pubs but that could be anywhere in Ayrshire). Got a lift there from my dad and told him I would get a lift back on the supporters bus, but it was full. I ended up managing to get a lift on the team bus or I would have been stranded, back in the days when there was no mobile phones.

I'm currently reading Soul Crew about the Cardiff casuals. Good read. I'd also agree that the Jon King books are great. I've only heard bad reports about the Rangers book, so doubt I will bother with it. Got to say that I've seen very little presence of the Rangers casuals during the years. I went to most games home and away during the 90s and the only time I can recall seeing them was when we play in Turin against Juve when they were fighting some of our own support. Angelic Upstarts - Last Night another soldier - Wow. Brings back memories. I haven't heard that in over 25 years. I'm sure I've got the single in the house somewhere.

I remember going to a Pollok Bo'ness semi (in Brockville?) and Pollok took 50 buses to it. Bigger crowd there than one of the English premiership (or 1st division back then). I also remember going to a Pollok Auchenleck game which Pollok won (I was probably around 15). After the game I got a run up the road and went into a chippy. An Auchenleck supporters bus drew up at the traffic lights outside. I waved my Pollok scarf to them and about 15 big farmers started running down the bus. I almost sh*t myself. Thankfully the lights changed colour and the bus went away.

Sung that as Wembley back in the mid 70's.

I'd agree with Craig. Hemdani doesn't look any good at centre half. I'd go with McCulloch before him.

The Sun reports on Celtic Fans' Poppy Protest
Bluedell replied to Frankie's topic in General Football Chat
So it's OK for the Green Brigade to bring in IRA banners, but if they do something that creates a bit of publicity by walking out then they get ejected. Am I right in saying that the club are DENYING that the ejections are nothing to do with the walk-out and subsequent singing in support of sectarian terrorist organisations? And I am right in saying that the minute's silence was announced as being for the Celtic players who died during the war and not the army in general? (I'm not sure about this) The political/sectarian side at celtic comes as much from the club itself as the supporters (and that's a fact) with the playing of provocative Irish tunes that refer to "rebelling against the crown", the reluctance to flying the Union Flag, the statements by Lawwell and Reid etc. Even its published web address refuses to have "uk" in it. -
We ARE owed honest decisions by the officials. Remember McDonald's offside goal against us last season? A decision that could arguably have cost us the league? Same guy. Co-incidence? Hmmm.

It's the way they talk down there......

If you were as old as 26th of Foot, you would know that he is correct. A map of Renfrewshire They have, of course, subdivided it for the purposes of councils, but the old Renfrewshire still exists (particularly in the minds of old people).

We've been trying to get rid of JCD since the end of last season and failed. I don't think he wants to leave so he'll go nowhere. I get the same feeling about Hemdani. Happy to sit back and collect the cash. I also can't see Dailly wanting to move. he has a cushie number here and who would want to buy him? McCulloch - is it true we turned down an offer for him during the summer? Again I can't see him wanting to move. He's just bought a big house here and seems to enjoy the lifestyle. Could he be cover for Weir? I can't see anyone wanting to buy McGregor at the moment. based on last season he was worth £6m+. His performances this season have been nothing other than average SPL goalie standard at best. If teams are currently watching him, we would be lucky to get £2m for him and we won't sell him at that price. As BMcK says, I doubt we will be buying anyone as we have no cash to do it, and I can't see many people being shifted. Frankie's House of Cards sums it up well.

Why does he repeat that lie?
