  1. I'm not sure how he was "punished by Scotland". By being dropped to the bench? I'm sure they would both have been left out for footballing reasons anyway. Though I think Mcgregor was blameless in Amsterdam, he doesn't inspire confidence when coming to collect cross balls in the same way as Gordon - and Iceland were a very big team. That dull clapping noise you hear is Bill Struth turning over in his grave to congratulate Walter. The best thing now would be for Dick Advocaat to come and take Barry away, though I think he will be missed more by Scotland than Rangers.
  2. Jeez, that's really depressing, Frankie. Despite the reservations we have about Walter as a coach, as far as discipline is concerned, I've always thought him as solid as a rock. If he can't sort, who the hell can?
  3. Just read the article and was wondering the same thing myself. Never saw Broadfoot as especially anti-Rangers, so you have to wonder. I know some bears wil say there's anti-rangers agenda in the media, but this is Scotland we're talking about. How does it help their cause to damage Scotland? Because by banning Ferguson and McGreagor, we are just shooting ourselves in the foot. They may not be first choices but with the limited talent we have, we need these two in the squad. Particularly McGregor; I cannot see another no.2 who is anywhere close to challenge Gordon. I recall those in the press who said that on Smith's return, Fergie should never captain Rangers again, and I thought it was too harsh - now I wonder. As chilledbear says, the picture says it all.
  4. He was a legend to me mate - the first no. 7 I ever saw. You were still in your romper suit at the time.
  5. According to the radio Fletcher played well. But my point is over the Le Guen scenario I sided with Barry; this time I don't think we should back him unconditionally. His time at both Rangers and Scotland may be up. The other reason apart from Hutton we won tonight is Ross McCormack. Another one that got away methinks.
  6. You could also say that it's more than a conicidence that Ferguson was involved on both occasions. Is he blameless? Can give him the benefit of the doubt with Le Guen but he does now appear to be nothing more than a shit-stirrer I'm sorry to say. As things turned out, Burley's decision to save Hutton and Gordon for this match was the right decision. So what exactly has he done wrong? And Fergie has been poor for both Rangers and Scotland this season. It seems that Darren Fletcher performs better without Fergie in the team. And just who do you want to take over from Burley? If it's souness we'll have no players left because of his abrasive management style.
  7. I've often wondered about Souness too. But there's one big problem with him - he falls out with players too easily. We'll get the Graham Roberts scenario if he takes over Scotland - and we cannot afford to lose any good players. Sorry, his man-management is appalling.
  8. You're probably right, but I never would have had him down as a 'holding' midfielder:confused: He and Thomson had a great partnership at Hibs.
  9. It's a real conundrum, this. I think he is unsure himself what his role is. With Mendes in the team, they both want to demand the ball and create -each is intimidated by the other's presence. Like Gerrard and Lampard maybe they cannot play in the same team. This is why I'd prefer to have Thomson and one other, Barry OR Mendes (or Davis). Thomson is left-footed and more of a holding player, so he complements the other perfectly. with Scotland it's a similar problem. Yesterday Brown was designated the holding player (!!), leaving Barry to hunt and harry. If he's to be a playmaker, then for Gers he needs Thommo beside him; for Scotland, he needs, dare I say it - Thomson again!!
  10. Now, now! Whatever we think of Walter he must have something going for him as Gazza has always rated him (the real Gazza, I mean not Gazza 8!). Be honest, would you not like to see a legend involved at Rangers in some way?
  11. Can't see why it should be an eiither/or. Rangers for me as well - however you look at it, it would be a great achievement for Scotland as we come from the Scottish League.
  12. My point is that the Arsenals and the Manu's still seem to have a better track record than we do of giving youth a chance- young Wellbeck is a case in point. And that is despite their huge buying power. We should develop a reputation of being a place where good young youth can get a chance. If big clubs buy in our youth they will only rot in the reserves given the enormous squads they have. By the way I think Ross McCormack has blossomed away from Scotland. what does that say about our coaching system?
  13. Hope you're right. Worse than anything Walter has done is to see other clubs constantly being linked to the cream of our youth. If EPL clubs rate them, they must have something going for them - or is it harder to play in the SPL:devil:
  14. Couldn't happen to a nicer club. But before we get too smug, let's remember our own version - M. Hemdani.
  15. Yeh, all right - forgetting Laff was still a youngster:)
  16. Bougherra and Fleck - no other choice possible.
  17. We should be told. If it simply is that his injury has done for him then why cant the club just be honest?
  18. So limited are the chances of young players getting a game for our first team, that they can make an international debut first! It's about time Walter started appreciating our young talent the way other shrewd judges are.
  19. Surprised you haven't heard of him, Norris - or is your tongue in its cheek? He was an international for Scotland, a good passer of the ball, played in same team as Baxter about 1967. Was rumoured to have been knocking about Baxter's sister, if I remember right. Anyway, has always hated us with a passion. My hackles rise when I hear people 'dissing' Broadfoot like that. If there's a more improved player in Scotland I haven't seen him.
  20. Danny Wilson? Are you crazy? Swap one of our most promising youngsters before they've been given a chance?
  21. Maybe I'm wrong but is it not a world cup tie so we have to under FIFA rules?
  22. Fergie and Mendes are a bit like the Gerrard-Lampard debate. They both want to play in the same areas. For me when Thomson is back, it's one or the other. As the younger man, I'd go with Mendes. I don't think Davis is wasted wide right-that goal he got v Falkirk came from him cutting in on the left!
  23. I always had Goughie marked own as a dead cert for future Rangers manager - in the days when there seemed no shortage of candidates. Even now I wonder...what on earth went wrong with his mangerial career. He had a spell at Livingston to learn the ropes then what? As Norris said, he has all the qualities to be a Rangers manager. I think McCoist lacks a certain gravitas - can't say that about Gough.
  24. [ there's also an awful lot of dirt on him, not just through the tommy sheridan shenanigans Eh? Tell me, I've never heard that one.
  25. For almost the first time I can remember we have a really good crop of promising youngsters but WS seems afraid to play them. If EPL managers can see the quality we've got - and Redknapp isn't the first - then it is a crime not to give them 20 minutes here and there, maybe in CIS cup games for example. This is what Wenger and Fergie do and they have got much bigger squads than us. If we let the Flecks and the Wilsons go with out giving them a proper chance then it is really the end of a great club. Rangers FC - 'Elephant's graveyard.'
