  1. And while our fans share purchase vehicles try to sign up as many supporters to small contributions and have got around £45K worth in a couple of weeks, a dogs shelter in Manchester that went on fire killing over 60 dogs has received over £250K in 12 hours in donations. Our club is dying on its arse, has hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of fans worldwide, and has set a 2-week target of just £85K that it is not quite going to reach. One fire at one dog shelter that nobody even knew about two days ago, has blown us out the water without even asking for donations. Makes me wonder in amazement at just what it will take to get Bears involved? The dog fire is an awful tragedy, and for all those dogs to be destroyed in it is truly heartbreaking, so please dont think I am being heartless about that terrible situation, merely drawing a comparison about how quickly money can be raised when the public support the cause and its gets the right profile.
  2. Had to be English. Wasn't clever enough to be Wilson and wasn't quite snide enough to be any of the others getting paid by BBC Scotland Sport.
  3. I am quite sure there are a number of concerned supporters out there that have actually signed up to both, like myself. If they were joined would I sign up at double the amount? Probably not. So with the current situation of having two vehicles, it is working in the sense that, in this one individual instance, they are both getting a small contribution from me towards their share purchase ambitions. Roll that out into many tens or hundreds of supporters that may fall into the same category as me, which is effectively one of giving support to fans groups that get off their backside and try to do something positive, then I can see there being a real advantage in there being two vehicles, for the moment. Lets get the shares bought first, and then we can worry about the politics later. To try to get the politics sorted at the outset is where we have fallen down over the years and prevented us from getting our own club in order by ourselves.
  4. Congrats to Rangersitis, clear winner of the "Best explanation of an edited post" category. Not much to smile about these days, and that made me laugh!!
  5. It's a very different scenario, as you concede, so I don't really see the point in making the comparison. What I was getting at is do we really need to be bitching about one share purchase vehicle over another, at such a precarious time when what we really need is for fans to be buying into this concept in huge numbers. If bears want to avoid the RST one, go with the Rangers First option, and vice versa. IMO both BuyRangers & RangersFirst should be promoting the other as a valid alternative/complimentary option, not have their members denegrating the other. I dont see the need to have a pop at one of the vehicles, when the bigger picture in this case is oh so much bigger. I have signed up to both, that surely should be the aim for both parties. A day may come in the future when they will have to work together for the common good to combine their voting strength against other shareholders who want to sell off our stadium or something similarly horrible, so lets see if we can keep it positive.
  6. The problem I have with the above coupe of posts is that there can be no certainty that an out and out boycott would lead to this set of shareholders selling up. Previous pressure applied has only got them digging in deeper. My fear, shared by many, is that if things get so bad, the sale/leaseback of our stadium will be inevitable. Some say this has been the aim from the start. Being plunged into admin 2 doesn't work either, given the lack of right-minded people available to buy us out, and no doubt the opposition to this from the existing lot sensing more easy pickings available. I am now pretty much firmly in the camp that we will have to buy our club back, bit by bit, piece by piece, by getting as many Rangers fans as possible the world over to buy as many shares as possible to get us up to a position where we can pool them together to demand a board seat, then a veto position, then a buy-out position. If we can get the right conditions, media exposure, spin and good old fashioned luck, Rangers fans will respond to our hour of need. Our history shows that we always do.
  7. Any vehicle that brings more shares into genuine Rangers supporters hands, closer to the point where we can have a worthwhile say in our club's affairs, or able to veto the sale of our Stadium, is to be welcomed. While we all have the right to have our say on the pros and cons of all things Rangers, negative comments that are hardly new and are only there to attempt to adversely affect a share purchase vehicles success, surely must be avoided at this oh so important time in our club's existence. I would refer back to the old saying, never more apt for things like this, that if you don't have anything good to say, say nothing. Anything else is deflection tactics from the main point of the thread, not a contribution to it.
  8. I wasn't even going to open this thread as another blog full of Jack Irvine's pish via Merlin is not what I (or any Bear for that matter) need to read right now. But given it got 40 or so replies quite quickly got my curiosity stirred so I read on. If that had been written by Peter Lawwell and posted on CQN I would have understood it more. That it seemingly came from a bear, and wasn't written in irony, is beyond belief. Clearly McMurdo is enjoying the limelight and the inside stories and loves being able to leak stories as an informed blogger. He is no more credible than the RTC blogger in my book, using a one-sided slant on supposedly confidential information which will only damage the club, our club, his club, by its publication.
  9. Timely bump for this topical thread from a year ago, partly to answer dB's question to me in the fans board thread (post #21 is where I put some of my thoughts on this issue), but it seems all the more relevant today.
  10. Friday night football has been absolutely rubbish so far IMO. Despite us playing one of our best games of last season at Airdrie on a Friday night, it turns your whole weekend into a shambles, with many having "usual" Friday night things to do with family, friends, etc, and then their day out at the football on either Saturday or Sunday taken away, again, so that a few thousand people can flick between the game and the soaps, super league, or any other rubbish on offer on a Friday night. I know that a few on my bus are not going this Friday as they have to take their kids to the usual Friday night classes of football, BB's, swimming etc, so they are missing out. Remind me again how much our club is receiving for all this disruption? £100K for the season or similar I seem to remember? And dont get me started on home games on a Monday night after yet another blank weekend!!
  11. As a Rangers supporter who has been attending well over 90% of our games for nearly 30 years now, a RSC member for 25 years, 15 as secretary, a member of the RFWG committee, is it right that I can have no say in this farce of an election as I chose, for the first time in well over 20 years not to have a ST this year as I did not trust the board (correctly it seems) with my money, and I refuse to pay them a vastly overpriced £25 to be a "member" for the same reason. Perhaps I am exactly the type of fan they DONT want having a say in this latest club-sponsored one-way talking shop. Whilst I wish the best of British to the two gentlemen from here that have stepped up and put their names forward for this, I have absolutely no confidence in this producing anything other than a box-ticking exercise for the club board. Much like the Assembly before it in fact. A Rangers membership is something I have advocated for a long number of years, but they have went about it all wrong, for the wrong reasons, at the wrong time. Pretty much like everything else this board has done to date.
  12. The Rangers First twitter feed has been doing great work over the last few days, well done to all involved.
  13. What can this board do to pacify the fans? Is there anyway the directors can turn both the finances and the trust of the supporters around? With the club unable to repay George Lethams loan and the stark warnings from London that the investors may not support the short sighted share issue to the level required (75% uptake or the issue will not proceed). The fact that the club couldn't convince or provide 2 potential investors to underwrite the share issue let alone see any of the controlling investors (BPH Marg and Laxey) put their hand up to do so, then what is next should the share offer fail? Mr Letham has gracefully given the club a short time to re pay his loan and I can't see this being done if as it looks, the share issue doesn't provide enough capital. Does the immediate future of our club rely on this short sighted offering? If it fails will the directors be in the unenviable position of declaring insolvency? It certainly looks like it. One thing has been missed by many board apologists since Fridays announcement, why with the finances in such a state did it take so long for the board to even attempt to seek this small investment via share sales? With the amount of accountants at our club surely one of them must have been able to see this coming sooner and not left it till the last possible minute to panic. Did they maybe want the season ticket sales to finish before setting the alarm bells as I see no reason that fans have been able to predict even with 100% st renewals that the club would not get through this calendar year without investment. I spoke to Mr Wallace as far back as February and asked him what the club would do should the season ticket sales not reach the required level and I also asked him at the same meeting why not do a share issue now if one was available. Mr Wallace at this time suggested waiting as the price would be higher later in the year. I raised an eyebrow at this claim as I would have thought the less cash in the bank would surely not increase the share price but Mr Wallace has vastly more experience than me and I wrongly took his word on this. Maybe he didn't gauge the reaction to ST renewal notices that were working their way to postboxes at this time I have no doubt that the board apologists will say " aye it's because of the low season ticket sales they need the money and it's the fans fault they can't raise the dough" REALLY? The season ticket deadline was back in April and the board have had almost four months to react to the results, my goodness that's around 120 days which seems to be the normal reaction time round our boardroom to do anything these days. My prediction and that shared by many others is, if the share option fails to reach the 75% buy in, the fans will be blamed for not buying enough ST and putting the directors in this position, then the shareholders will be blamed for not bailing them out and the outcome will be "we needed to do a deal on the training ground/ cheap deal on naming rights to get us out of trouble, we are a good shiny new board" I actually feel sympathy for a director or two at this time because not only are they struggling to keep the lights on, they have to contend with in fighting and power struggles in the boardroom which will no doubt be also hampering their efforts to do the right thing I haven't even touched the "where's the promised investment?" question which has been promised now by both sides of the boardroom split. All this drama going on while a potential investor has declared the willingness to invest £30m but can't even be giving financial information when he's been asked to underwrite a share issue. The mind boggles. Sort out your boardroom differences, cut the crap and spin and pick up the phone. It's good to talk and you did claim you're "ready to listen". 14. Are these stories really filling the pages of our National newspapers? No wonder I stopped buying any newspapers several years ago. As for the last paragraph, WTF has that got to do with anything???
  15. They should have quite clearly come out and said the spirit of the penalty was to cover the entire window, so the SFA were not going to sanction any purchases by us on 1/2 September. It was the fact they tried to hide behind a sporting integrity line without even mentioning us, when the whole country knew they were only doing it to spite us, that was shameful. Nevermind the fact that it prevented the other clubs in the country from doing any business those two days. When pushed, they refused to accept that McKenzie had f****d up the illegal 5 way agreement and not checked the calendar to see when the window was going to close and put the "correct" date in accordingly. They had to come out with the old favourite of Sporting integrity, and point blank denied it was anything to do with us. Fast forward a year and they are quite happy with a September deadline, as we are no longer under embargo. Shameless.
  16. I thought Leckie was Morton and Chick Young was St Mirren????? Not at all sure (Morton or St Mirren) other than I have heard him on many, many occasions say he hates both OF equally, and I actually do believe him on that.
  17. 2013 - European transfer deadline 11pm on Monday 2nd September as the 31st August fell on a weekend. 2014 - European transfer deadline 11pm on Monday 1st September as the 31st August fell on a weekend. 2014 - SFA follows other European countries without any fuss, statements or similar. 2013 - SFA closes deadline on Sat 31st August, as to extend it to Monday in line with the rest of Europe was not following "Sporting Integrity" Whats the difference I hear you ask? In 2013 Rangers illegal transfer embargo finished on 31 August 2013, therefore giving our club a very short window to sign players before the European deadline passed on the Monday. It was nothing to do with the Rangers situation according to the SFA it was to do with sticking to the Sporting Integrity of the deadline. Seems nobody in Media-land has the balls to bring up this clear breach of their own Integrity laws. Rhegan must be pissing himself all the way to Yorkshire with another pay cheque successfully banked.
  18. I dont think I have read a bigger load of tosh this year. Football fans dont change their allegiance based on geography, fortunes of their club, or journalistic peer pressure, and well he knows it. He has used it as just another attempt to have a dig at us. The only thing you can say about Leckie is he seems to hate the scum as much as he hates us. A true anti-OF kind of guy. Of course if the OF were not as big news in this Country as we are, Leckie would have nothing to write about and nobody to care to read it. He COULD have just as easily penned a similar piece against the scum in saying that their season was effectively over now that they are out of the CL and even Delia can't fail to win the title, and therefore scumtic fans should go and watch their local team this season instead.
  19. Am I the only one who doesn't see what all the fuss is about. A Rangers fans group sending emails out to Rangers fans. Why does it matter how they got your details? I could understand it if it was a scum group emailing us. I am sure I am not alone in getting loads of emails from all sorts of Companies, and if it is something I am not interested in I delete it. I must delete 100 emails a week without even opening them. I have never been that bothered how they got my details. AFAIK you can unsubscribe to any email list so that is another option. With all the problems our club is in, is this really the issue of most concern? Sign up to one, both, none at all or buy shares independently, but the constant in-fighting has got to stop before we have no club at all.
  20. The numbers stack up quite quickly if everyone takes part. Take the last home attendance of 30,000. If everyone there took out a £10pm subscription, there would be enough to buy all the upcoming available shares in about a year. Now not everyone that goes along to a match (pensioners, kids etc) will have £10 a month to spare, but we have not touched the fans who are currently disenfranchised enough to not attend but clearly dont want the club to fail. Also take into account bears who for whatever reason (work, geographical) cannot attend but want to support the club. Look at the numbers of fans signed up to similar schemes run by smaller clubs. As a percentage of their fanbase they do pretty well in getting the emotional message across to their fans that this is required to keep their club going. We as Rangers fans have been to used to being the big club for too long that it is always somebody elses job to bail us out, not ourselves. Fans did sign up in huge numbers for the IPO despite the warning signs being there already that Green was not quite the messiah but was indeed a very naughty boy. That needs to be the similar types of numbers and more for us to save our club. We cannot afford to be picky or to say it is a bad investment. It is not an investment, it is a contribution towards saving our club. When the club was in admin the fans done amazing things to raise money, both through the RFFF and directly to the club, pumping millions into the club in a few short months. If we had been more astute or got the right messages right from that period, and taking the above example, we could have around £8M to invest in the club by now, all by guys like you and me signing up for a DD for a tenner a month or so. If we are to continue to claim to be a huge club with a huge fanbase, it is time we stepped up and proved it, as we may not get another chance if we wait and see.
  21. The thing is Zappa, we just cannot just sit back and watch this horror show without trying to do something. It might end up being too little too late, but the more we get at least trying to do a little, it can add up to a lot. My biggest gripes with both RF & BR is the total lack of push for these vehicles since they were set up. I am quite sure I could do a straw poll on my bus and less than half of what should be easy targets given they are actually match-going fans would know anything about them. The fans forums dont reach anywhere near as many match-going Rangers fans as some would think.
  22. It is time (long past time if we are being honest!) that we must put aside all our minor (and not so minor) differences and between us buy as many shares as possible in our club. Only by buying the current board out will we be able to move our club out of the grubber. The time for waiting for Mr King (or any other) coming to buy us out and run us properly has come and gone. If after almost a decade of being available to purchase, no Rangers-minded professional has come forward to buy us, it is time we realised it is not going to happen. Only by buying a big enough slice of the pie ourselves can we collectively safeguard our club. There are a couple of things I dont like about Rangers First ( and Buy Rangers for that matter), and a few more things I am uncertain of, but the time for wait and see has come and gone and I believe we now have to embrace these share purchase vehicles and try to get a foothold into our club as a collective fan base. I will today be signing up to both Share Purchase vehicles, Buy Rangers & Rangers First, and I would hope that everyone who can afford to do so, does so and is able to put aside the personalities, mistakes & politics that have been made and just does their bit to try to save our club. It may well be money for nothing if we go bust again, but I can at least say I tried (albeit probably too late) to do my bit. Of course fans can also just buy a chunk of shares on the open market if they desire to do so independently.
  23. Exactly the same on our bus FS, and on many other buses whose reps we have spoken to this season. As an example, we restrict our membership to around 50 members, always have done. For about 20 years we have had around 90% ST holders on our bus. This season we have under 50% ST holders. Out of those who did not renew, all have been present at our home games this season on a match by match basis. We have had two-three members not renew membership this season as they were stopping going to matches for a combination of financial and geographical reasons, not footballing or boardroom reasons. These members have been replaced by new members who have been going for years but not with us. The argument that our crowds are down due to footballing reasons doesn't compute with the findings from our albeit small poll of fans. If you read FF you will see a lot of bears not going for boardroom reasons. On every forum you have perhaps 1 or 2 not going for football reasons. There is an argument that until we starve the board out by not going to the games nothing will change. It is not one I subscribe to but I can sympathise with fellow fans who feel this way, and have made a tough decision for what they feel is the right reason.
  24. Totally agree, all his best goals were when he had no time to think, he just reacted. When given time, he usually messed up.
